Renerabbitt
Chief you gave us a directory where we could put our SBSAR files to be auto parsed into Chiefs new substance builder, but when installing the latest update, you deleted all of my custom sbsar files for which I unfortunately did not have a backup. So you did two things wrong...you deleted a directory or files that you should never delete, and you did not include my sbsar files in your backup system. I will report
mthd97
Hi @Renerabbitt, Were you able to find a way to retrieve your custom sbsar files since this post date ? Looks like the X17 file saving system has caused a big problems for you ? Is it still in your computers cache somewhere still ? Hope CA technical support can help you. ShawnCannata
Hi Rene, I want to apologize that you lost some of your files. I would recommend not putting files into that folder as we directly manage that folder, including editing the contents. We have not advised people to find that folder and change what is in it, and plan to continue to recommend against it. We don't expect users to add files to that folder and thus don't backup the files. Again, sorry for your loss of work.
rwdozier
I have heard that there are two types of computer users - those who backup their data and those who wish that they had. I am a long-time user of Arcserve ShadowProtect SPX. Works great!!! Easy to restore files if you ever need to using the "Quick Mount" feature. Why would you manage a folder that has the ability to automatically load custom substance maps? This is the only way for us to populate all of our substance graphs in the drop down menu of that utility...which is the main benefit of this feature. Please consider not managing the folder or giving us some way of choosing a substance folder the same way we can choose our unmanaged backdrops folder
ShawnCannata
The behavior you are seeing is so that we can ensure that our files are correct and up to date. The populating of other files into the combo box is a side effect of the design and not an intended feature. I would say the main benefit of the feature is for users to be able to work with SBSAR files without having to leave Chief Architect and having all of the maps populate into the correct slots automatically when creating a new material. I will consider your feedback, though I cannot promise anything. As it is designed, I do continue to recommend not putting any files in that folder directly and using the browse selection from the combo box to navigate to your own folder. Sorry for the harshness in my writing. mildly frustrated but certainly not an issue I created Hard links to my unmanaged substance folder so that will work. Would be nice to handle subfolders in this system better still if it could be navigated in the way that the library browser can be navigated and organized...nudge nudge. I have 500 SBSAR files, haha
