Scissor Trusses for Covered Balcony

Hi,

I've searched high and low and haven't been able to find anything on how to frame with scissor trusses for a balcony roof. Any leads or help would be awesome.

Currently getting an error message saying " Roof and ceiling planes cannot be found or they are too close together, so cannot make truss." When I do draw a truss.

From CA X16 Help searching "scissor truss":

Roof Truss Placement

The shape of a roof truss is defined by the space between the roof above and flat ceiling platform or manually drawn Ceiling Plane ../../Resources/img/btn/customceiling.png below. . .

  • If the bottom chords of trusses are defined by a sloped ceiling plane, a Scissor Truss will be created. See Scissors Trusses.

If the program either does not find both roof planes and a ceiling, or if there is not enough room between them to model a truss, a warning message will report that this is the case if you position one at that location. The problem truss may still display in plan view with a label of the form “TR-*”. If it does, it should be either moved or deleted. See Editing Trusses.

Update: For the heck of it I tried framing it with a flat ceiling over the deck and that works, so I'm not sure at this point what is going on that it won't frame with trusses when its vaulted. Any and all help would be much appreciated!

Your problem is that only have about 6" between your ceiling plane and your roof plane so Chief is having a difficult time knowing what to do with that.  I don;t think anyone would build you trusses that shallow either.  Drop your sloped ceiling planes down or raise your roof planes up and you should get more expected results.
