KarrLaurie
Is there a way to color up different areas of the terrain, or apply different texture to certain areas but at the same time allowing road and paths to be laid across different textures in the normal way. TeaTime
Kind of. Terrain Features are what you'd use to apply different materials to terrain but they don't exactly play nicely with roads, because roads cut down into the terrain Driveway and Sidewalk tools should work fine though since they build up from the terrain. The Subtraction tool works with roads/driveways though, which makes shaping terrain features around your roads much easier.

Do you want these area to display in 2D and 3D views. Can you be a bit more specific. When you say "textures", do you really mean textures, or do you mean a colored or hatched area? Do you want these areas to follow the terrain slope?
KarrLaurie
Thanks to those who replied, I actually found a way that worked. You need to add a terrain feature, open its dialog and set the "terrain to top" height to be be greater that the height of the road curb . Select "clip overlapping terrain features" you will now find roads and paths will cut right through your new terrain features. The terrain feature may now be textured as you wish.
