Move Objects Using Dimensions?

I do not understand how to use the function shown below.  I enter the dimension value I want and click on move object. Then the line I want to move and it moves the entire object??

Sorry, what is your question? you select object, enter dimension, select any of these two functions and hit enter.

If you want to move, say, a side of a square polyline and not the whole square polyline.

Enter the dimension value you want.

Do not click the Move Object button - that moves the whole object - just like it says.

Leave the Move Both Ends (or Move Edge) button checked - this will move just the one side of the square and not the whole square. 

 

To finish, you do not need to click the line you want to move.

You can click anywhere in the drawing or press Enter to finish the command.

 

The last click you are making on the line is not selecting it, it is finishing the command (you can click anywhere in the drawing to finish the command).

I think it has to do with the order that you are doing it.

 

1. Click on line you want to move first.

2. Click on dimension you want to change.

3. Click on move line or move edge button (but only when you want to change the mode).

4. Type in new dimension.

5. Press enter.
