Jonathann3891
Hello everyone, this is my first post here! I recently made the switch from AutoCAD Architectural to Chief Architect and I'm still learning the ropes. So far I'm loving the software and wish I would have made the change sooner! I do have a question that I cant figure out and haven't found anything though searching. I have a two story house and I've successfully added the stairwell opening, however, I do not want the opening to occupy the entire outline of the stairs. I only want the opening to be big enough to meet the required head clearance. Can I adjust the automatic opening to achieve this or do I have to create the opening by other means? Thanks! robdyck
You adjust this by moving the railing wall on the floor above the stairs.

SHCanada2
and check the headroom with a cross section. There is a CA video on this
robdyck
The simplest way to check headroom: Open stairs, set railing to 80" (or per your building code). Generate a section view. Once the structure is ok, you can reset the railing back to its proper height. 1
