talock Posted March 21, 2019 Share Posted March 21, 2019 Hello, I wanted to upgrade my two 20" monitors to a single 34" monitor until I realized my two AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series cards don't support that monitor. My system is as follows: Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3401 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s) OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Pro Version 10.0.17763 Build 17763 System Type x64-based PC BaseBoard Product P8P67 DELUXE BaseBoard Version Rev 1.xx Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 16.0 GB Total Virtual Memory 32.0 GB My question is what card or cards would work best to run Chief x6 (and later the new version) on my system which I imagine is an old school system by now, but is what I've got. Kbird1 Posted March 24, 2019 Share Posted March 24, 2019 HI Todd , missed this earlier.....you don't say why your Videocard isn't supported? but I would suggest a Single Nvidia Gaming card like a 1060 6GB or the newer 1660 6GB/8GB , as CA does not support SLI (two V.cards) , you are lucky as VideoCards have come down alot in Price recently. do some research on your motherboard 1st and make sure it can support the newer PCIe Specs of new Cards though, as it looks like it maybe PCIe 2x only , and while the new Cards would be backward Compatible I am not sure they would operate at their Full potential as the would with PCIe 3x , but likely okay for CA ( it's not a 3D game) https://www.asus.com/ca-en/Motherboards/P8P67_DELUXE/ Personally I currently use EVGA VideoCards and find their Forum is a good place to get advice...maybe copy and paste your 1st post over there...with a link to the MB too. https://forums.evga.com/EVGA-GeForce-10-Series-f103.aspx M. Also later this year, or next, I intend to upgrade to X11 or the subsequent X12. as you mentioned when you upgrade the GPU you may need to upgrade your motherboard excetera excetera kind of the rabbit hole I'm trying to avoid if possible but it may be unavoidable. As a side note that free upgrade copy of Windows 10 I may end up having to purchase if I switch out the motherboard. I will definitely re-post my original post on this as you suggested to the link you provided, that will be helpful! I would ask over on EVGA as i mentioned as the Card may work fine for CA on the Old MB and you can move it too a new computer in a year or two ...in which case buy the best you can afford now ... I have a 1070Ti at the moment ad am happy with it ...... I think it is being phased out so you may find one on Sale somewhere , EVGA also sell B-Stock direct on there Website. M. talock Posted March 24, 2019 Author Share Posted March 24, 2019 This what I found on my cards: DisplayPort 1.2 Max resolution: 2560x1600 per display Multi-Stream Transport 21.6 Gbps bandwidth High bit-rate audio HDMI® (With 3D, Deep Color and x.v.Color™) Max resolution: 1920x1200 Dual-link DVI with HDCP Max resolution: 2560x1600 VGA Max resolution: 2048x1536 Unfortunately the montior I'm looking at is 3440 X 1440, LG 34UC80-B 34-Inch 21:9 Curved UltraWide. AvoyeDesign Posted March 25, 2019 Share Posted March 25, 2019 Without looking into the specs you listed too much, I'm guessing your system is over 5 years old by now, just from the processor model number alone. A lot of things have changed in 5 years, and it might be best to get looking into a full new system. When I upgraded to X9 about 2 years ago, my 5 year old system could barely keep up.
