Layout reference grid for columns

Recommended Posts

I am working on a project that requires the plan view of each floor to have a reference grid that intersects at each column.   Is there a easy way to do this where each grid has an alpha callout at the top of the layout view and numeric callout along one or both sides.

Cameras displayed as callout with cross section lines and visible on all floors are my personal favorite method.  Biggest downside is lack of ability to snap to those lines.

but that means two cameras for each and every column grid pair doesn't it?

Yes, but then they will remain constant on all floors.  Much less room for error.  You can also just use callouts with cross section lines and Copy/Paste in Place from floor to floor or use your Reference Dispaly and/or overlap views in layout but IMO, cameras are the most dependable, most flexible, and least error prone.

Well ok then.  lol.  I will give it a try.  It will give me a boatload of cross sections to boot.

Thanks for the tip.

You bet.  Maybe consider adding your support to this suggestion...

By my support you are referring to asking for this feature in CA?   I am certainly in for that!

Thanks for you help.

      Hi
I am using x10.  I have a kitchen type that I will multiply many times and save by unit #. I need to have the unit # show up on my layout page for each plan that is saved.
Not sure how to save the units and have the info show up.
      Thanks in advance!

Do yourself a favor - get a copy of Get Your House Right.

It is a map through the thousand design decisions you'll be making as you design a house. It is a dictionary of the Architectural Vocabulary our predecessors worked to perfect and articulate, and is your key to taking your designs to the next level.

You have to drive around this life and see houses designed by total amateurs, littering the neighborhoods and fields along the roadway - don't let your designs fall into this category.

You owe it to yourself to buy this book and study it.

I am hoping someone can tell me how to handle this.  I have done all the framing, and using the project browser, sent all the Wall Details to a Layout page.  When I first did this, everything showed up perfect...The wall detail names on the walls in plan view, corresponding to the labels in the Layout.

Well, I made a couple of window changes, rebuilt floors and ceilings and now what I have is this: The wall detail numbers show up correctly in the plan view, but the layout shows: "Wall Layer 4 Viewed from outside".  I must be able to change the Views on the Layout to correspond with the plan view!

      HELP!!!!

      TIA

Is there anything I can do to either reduce or eliminate the lines the column moldings are producing in vector view?  I did convert the curve to a polyline...and divided the circle into very small parts...but it doesn't seem to help.

Any ideas would by great.  Thanks.

Here's a couple pics...a sample plan is attached also. (Column Molding in Vector View.plan)

Does anyone have some decent ideas to keep track of details? I'm working on a large home that has over 40 details. If I decide that a particular detail, let's say it's #5, is redundant or not required, that means I've got 35 details and their callouts to renumber?????
I've been calling out details from the cross sections in layout, specifically so I don't have to open each section view (which is so tedious) in order to place callouts. But there's no schedule tool in layout to make any sort of auto-numbering system. And no linking system from the callout to the detail camera (I like to keep them live) or to the CAD detail (which I use for less dynamic details).
This is as bad or worse than the issues one runs into when using room numbers.
Surely there is some system within Chief for actual architectural plans?
