Changing room to Deck creates slab

Recommended Posts

Everytime I change a room to a deck, it changes the deck, but puts a slab under it. Can anyone tell me why this is happening? It must be a foundation setting but I can't see what is happening.

Also, we do mainly raised homes, so I am trying to set up a default floor system that has the internal setting, but the deck posts. I copied the Deck setting and modified it but it still puts a slab. Until now, I have been using a slab and putting a 1mm thick setting, and adding posts manually.

It is probably in your plan defaults for deck rooms-

Default settings> Rooms> Deck Room

Edit deck and deck support dialogs.

Also fill out you signature as I and others have so we know what version you are using.

Do you have your Foundation set to Automatically build a Monolithic Slab Foundation?

Build>Floor>Build Foundation>

Also, as Rob mentioned,  it's good to have your Forum Signature filled in please, especially with the Software Version,
and of course a Name is nice too :) ..............see mine below in Blue for how to do that.

It sounds like you are trying to use a deck room type to automatically get post and beams automatically.

Posting an image or 3 of a completed house will help others understand and maybe suggest a way to do what you want.

OK. I've worked it out. But I've noticed two things:

* the beams aren't spread to the edges of the main non-deck rooms. Is there a way to have them calculated from the edges inwards?

* I cant change the default settings for the Deck so it automatically adds a deck.

Does anyone know how to do this?

I've switched over from HDP and CA settings are a lot more complicated.

I think you are trying to do something Chief isn't set up to do.

Drawing in your own beams and post takes just a couple of minutes, and they will be just where you want them.

Chief has tools like Multiple Copy, Align Distribute Objects and Align Distribute Along Line the make layout easier than Pro.

I've just noticed that these beams don't reach through the second level below. It may be getting a bit complicated for the program?

I have designed a pergola and a deck. I cannot get the terrian to show right. It needs to be zero of level at back of deck by pool deck and slowly slope down to a bayou. it needs to be 36" to grade at edge of outer deck Then a stair going down to the end of stair which is around 5 fr lower that top of deck. I have not did much terrian and would appreciate your help. This is just a remodeling and adding a deck from the pool.

So I've drawn up a deck on a second floor but the framing is showing up on the floor below. I feel like I am missing some small detail but I can't figure this one out.

Just a quick video on how to create a deck railing panel symbol...

How would I go about raising the height of my roof, without changing the pitch? I want the roof line to end at the deck, but when I try to modify the roof with the edit handle the wall comes up against. I want the wall to end at the deck of my A-frame, ad have the roof end at the deck.

When I build decks I **** to have the railing posts, (newels), set to the outside of the rim joists and bolted through the rim. Most codes don't allow for notching anymore but with a 4x4 I can bolt the full 4x4 to the outside of the rim and then overhang the decking a bit over the rim and still accomplish the 4" minimum opening between the bottom rail and the decking. I don't see an option to build the railing this way. I know I can do each piece manually but I would think this is not that uncommon of a building technique and there must be a setting for it. Seems like no matter what I do, deck railing posts are always sitting on top of the deck and defining the "wall". Essentially I am looking to create the deck perimeter at the correct size and then create the railing 3.5" total thickness, to the outside of the rim with 1" thick fascia boards then applied to the rim between the posts and the decking would then overhang the fascia boards by about a half inch.
