  1. It's a desktop Michael,,,sleep mode is inactive. The error message comes up the moment I select "run",,, as if something out there is saying "go fish"...
  2. I have x9 on two computers, ray tracing works as expected on my daytime computer but not my evening computer. The error reads: "An unexpected error occurred while ray tracing". I've covered all the Knowledge Base solutions without success, could it be my Norton antivirus blocking something? My daytime computer uses McAfee, the evening computer Norton. Ray tracing has worked in all previous version of Chief. I've also upgraded my NVDIA graphics card drivers and that didn't help. Thoughts?
  3. X9 works as expected on computer #2 ---- maybe it's a graphics issue on computer #1? I'll check that,,, Thanks Maureen,,,
  4. Yep,, I did that shortly after my initial post here,,,, I'll try X9 on my second computer location this evening to see if it's the same. My daytime location (network police) blocks the url for authenticating my chief account so I use an outside wifi signal to get around that (and quickly close the signal once complete). My fear is that x9 is continuously looking for that url for some reason. But that's just a guess.
  5. I loaded x9 today,,, Its crashed on me 4 times now,,,, I'll go back to X8 I guess,,,,
  6. Now that's hidden in there nicely - no wonder I couldn't find it - thanks Eric...
  7. My default roofing material is a simple asphalt shingle but when I make a roof it defaults to a gray tin roof as shown on the left of the attached image - the right side of the image I changed to show you what the default is set to,,,, Somewhere along the way I changed a setting the ignores the roofing material default (you can't even see "roofing material" on the DDB also attached),,, using the painter tool is a solution but not what I want - I want the default to take hold... Thanks in advance... Ron - x8
  8. I am sure this has been beat around many times but my quick search could not find anything when searching on wainscoting,,, Has anyone attempted something similar to the attached? I suspect it's making on panel and copying if across the wall is it? Or is it easier than that? Ron - x8
  9. I moved the right cabinet over and back to make sure it was sharing a panel but that didn't help --- Joe, I like your idea - that's easier,,, I am a 6 year (give or take) part time Chief addict and like Michael I've seen this many times before.... And why is this an issue now you may ask? :-) the plan I am doing is for rendering purposes only -- a buddy of mine is using that silly program called AutoCAD to do the construction drawings :-)
  10. What's the secret in matching the cabinets so the molding doesn't continue around the perimeter of the cabinet where it's not wanted for overhead shots? In the attached the corner cabinet and fridge cabinet are from the cabinets function in CA but the range cabinet is from the library - all defaults are identical from what I can tell and as you can tell from the image the molding is identical in size and height.... Thoughts? Thanks - x8 Ron
  11. I'm not crashing but I am finding x8 to be a little sluggish....
  12. You need an attic wall inside your roof line - it didn't auto generate one so I made it manually.
  13. I live in Canada and we will offer you a place to stay if Trump wins :-) Otherwise, thanks for all the shower ideas folks -
  14. Hi there, There are a couple of great videos on creating a custom shower but for the life of me I can't figure out how to establish an elevated tiled base as shown in the attachment. I tried a pony wall but that didn't work out as well since the bottom wall doesn't have a cap, maybe the best way is to create a pg solid for the cap? If there's another way I'd love to know. Thoughts? Ron - X8
  15. Thanks Glen, I knew I saw that somewhere, all is good - Solver - thought I had added a picture - my bad,,,,
  16. I can't seem to find where to change the siding start point - I don't want it to start at the top of the floor joist 0,0,0, I want it at 0,0,-14 3/4" so it starts at the top of the concrete wall, is there an option for that? thanks
  17. Oops - the basement level did not have a perimeter around the garage, all is well now, my bad,,, sorry...
  18. Hello everyone, I have a slab on grade, when I change the floor height in the "Garage only" if takes the floor level for the entire structure with it. Default floor levels: 0" - floor is provided by the room below. Change garage "only" to -6" and the entire structure goes to -6" Is this a quirk in X7 or is there a new setting I am overlooking?? As shown in the second attachment I am clearly picking the garage only. Thanks,
  19. Perry - you know how the saying goes, "you can't see the forest through the trees"? - well that was the CA 101 solution I was looking for. I tend to complicate the simple things in life it seems. ;-)
  20. thanks Perry,,, that worked but it consumed my 2x4 yellow wall - perhaps I need a double wall using the divider wall - Funny thing is I've become consumed with the proper way to do it versus the work arounds :-). That can be fun in itself.
  21. But it's just a simple step Bill ;-). I was hoping that there was a setting "do not snap walls" -- but that would be too easy.
  22. The attached is the result of my taking the yellow wall out past the blue wall - it works but not "perfectly correct" ;-)
