  1. Make a molding profile of the window stool (sill) and the crown molding profile underneath all as one unit. Then add it to the library. In the sill dbx. add that molding as the custom sill. Check wrap and extend to the measurement you want. Make sure you have the "apron" dbx. unchecked. The only problem when doing this is that CA puts the new profile below the frame and not where the apron should be positioned. A downfall with the program, but that's another story.

  2. Is there a setting dbx. that I can change to reposition the "Living Area" label? It's right in the middle of my dimensions. I've moved it, then locked room labels, then made a couple of changes in the plan and it's back again to the old spot. I don't want to "turn it off" because it is part of room labels and I want them displayed. There is surely a way to work around this or a dbx. I'm missing. There should be a way for each floor to adjust this due to the fact that for each for it may have to be in a different position.

  3. The way I do it is to use a p-solid, but you have to "fudge" the door height so the CA door sill doesn't show. For years many have been asking CA to have more control over both door and window sills. I've been asking since version 10 (2006), but I know it was being asked for before that.Whenever a new version comes out the first thing I look at is to see if or what improvements were made to doors and windows. Then I think---maybe next year. For now the best "I" can tell you is to make it look as good as you can in render/vector view and then adjust what you have too in a cad detail cross section if you need to really explain what you want. After that go to Suggestions and ask for more control with door and window sills. I've been told in round about way that CA the "squeaky wheel gets greased". SQUEAK, SQUEAK, SQUEAK! :)

Could be Display mixed content is set to prompt in IE

    Internet Options/Security (w internet tab selected)/Custome level

Abolut half way down - find display mixed content and set it to enable

Randy......That was the problem! Many thanks. I saved a call to the grandkids. Everytime I call them I have a computer question. I think half the time I call they don't answer. They are thinking---it's just Pap with another computer question.  :)  Have a great day--it's Friday.

  5. David......Thank you for the reply. I don't know what is going on. I was sure the layer sets I imported were suppose to be just added to the layer sets I already were using. I in the process of "no return". I'm rebuilding all my layer sets for this plan. I'll make sure to bring my layer sets and anno sets over into a new plan BEFORE I start to build my model next time. That or do a template. I suppose if I would be using the SAM method I would not be having this problem---right Scott? Have a great day.

  6. I'm using IE. I wonder if there is something I have to set up differently or maybe it's some kind of "blocker" I have turned on. Dang if I know. Is there anyone else out there that is having the same problem Mike and I are? I guess I'll have to call up my grandkids again.

  7. When you import in a layerset, aren't those layers just added to the layers that you already have. I might have done a "no no". I had a plan partially finish and I imported in a "matched set" of annosets and layersets from an earlier plan. I then was going over my plan and setting my floors up with my new annosets and layer sets. There were certain items I noticed that weren't showing up on my second floor when looking at my newly transfered annoset so I opened up the layer set and I realized some of my layers were no longer showing in the new layerset. I then went to my Default layer set and the layers showed there that I was looking for. I thought that no matter what layerset you were in, all the layers are shown and the layerset your using determines which is on and which is off. . Did I import the layerset in in such a way that they were not added to my layers that were already in the plan I was working on? If that's the case, then could I just "re-import" this particular layerset? I hope I'm making this clear enough. It's been a long day.

  8. Thanks Scott....I was pretty sure there was a video, but couldn't remember where. As it ended up I was just looking in the wrong area (Youtube instead of Chieftutor) Thanks again for taking the time to do the videos. Have a great day.

  9. Is there a default where I can set my colors for different types of framing members? Sills, Floor jts., Ceiling jts.,  Rim jts. etc. I saw in one of Scott's videos where he had different framing members different colors so I'm sure there's a quick way to do this. Hey, Scott, are you listening. :)

  10. Glenn,,,,,Yes, I have the new update.

Curt and Scott.......All the frigging around on this pony wall and who would have know the solution was to just delete it and then rebuild. This lesson was well learned. Many thanks to all (and especially Curt on this subject) for taking the time. Time is something we never get back. Have a great day.

Yes, there are different items not working correctly on the new Chieftalk. I bet I posted a half dozen times and the post would not go through. I would hit "post" then get the "flashing block" at the top of the screen and nothing else happened. Every time this happened I would open another IE window for Chieftalk, go to the thread in question, go to reply, copy what I wrote in the reply that would not go through into the new reply window, post that reply and it would go right through. Like I said, this has happened MANY times to me over the last few days. The other item seems to be when sending a large plan file through as an attachment the actual .plan file is not part of the zipped file sent. This happened to me twice in the pass week or so and it occurred with Curt yesterday. I know in my instances I had the plan closed when I zipped it and besides the zipped files weren't completely empty. They had all the material/texture .jpg files. Just no .plan file. This is a problem----yes?

  11. Curt............I still have the same problem when I try and make a pony wall on the right side (30' wall). I've been "playing with this wall off and on all afternoon. I have been trying to use 12" CMU on the bottom and the 8"w/stone veneer for the top course of the pony wall. The top course being the same block wall type as used on the first floor above the same foundation wall I'm trying to make into a pony wall. I started making this pony wall out of other block "setups". I used the same setup I have for the pony wall across the front. (10" on bottom 6" for top course) I got no weird pony wall. Then I changed the top course to a plain 8" CMU wall and everything still looked good. I then changed the top course from the plain 8" block to the 8" block w/stone veneer and the pony wall went weird. This is the same wall type that is right above this foundation wall on the first floor. ----- conculsion... there is something in the way I have the 8" block w/stone veneer set up that is causing the problem. I have the the outside of the 8" block as the main layer for both wall types and they are setup to align with the main layer and the stone veneer sticks out pass on the block above. I'll figure it out and let you know what it was.

As for the image of the 1st flr defaults. I looked at the defaults on the same plan that I've been working on and it looks okay. Not like the one you're showing. Somewhere along the line I fixed whatever was going on there.

  12. Lew....All the .jpg files came through. The .plan file was not in the list with the material jpegs once I opened the zipped file. If the plan was still open nothing would have shown----correct? In the instance where I sent the file from my end the other day, I'm positive I had the plan closed before I zipped it. I'm pretty sure this is the same situation on Curt's end this time.

  13. Curt....I gave each size CMU it's own material definition with the "Grey block-running bond" as the material and changed the size settings for each size of block. When I made my pony wall with 12" blocks for the lower blocks and the top course 8" with stone veneer (same as block wall on first floor) I still get the weird wall like is shown in the attachment. When using just 12" blocks for the foundation everything was okay before. When you said everything looked okay, did you mean with a pony wall like I described in my first thread.or with just the 12" foundation wall (no pony wall)? Is it my understanding that you need to have a different material (Grey-Blocks running bond, _2, _3, etc.) for each different size of block with it's own spec. sizes? This is something I never did before and I don't remember ever having a problem. I'm just trying to clairifly things, because my pony wall results is crap. Thank you for your patience.

THIS IS THE FOURTH TIME i'VE HIT "POST". I HOPE IT POST THIS TIME!
