Heather, I have found a way to do this when making the bay window manually. (I'm doing this on a job I'm working on now) I'm going to demonstrate this tonight at our user meeting. To make a frame around it, well that will need to be done manually but the glass will butt in the corner. The window is in the middle of the wall. I'm doing this using X6.

Do you have stairs anywhere? If so, then what do you think the answer should be?

Use the Living Area Macro and it will stay where you place it.

I'm interested please PM me.
Thanks.
If you are talking to me, then please call me or email me. See signature below. Please include your name, where you're located, version you're using and a number for me to reach you.

Are you showing line weights?

Thanks folks,
I clicked on each fireplace wall and checked wall butts other walls and checked no room definition and then dragged each wall down and that worked. Thanks for the help.
Well, I guess as usual that there's more than one way to do it. I didn't have to do all of that.

I believe he's good to go now.

Use a retaining wall with an elev. line either side , not a terrain wall which will follow the terrain as Tommy noted.....
M.
KBird & Scott. Please read my post a little closer. I didn't offer any wall type to use or any method. I recommended NOT to use a terrain path for what he called "a terrain wall". You both actually agree with me. He used a terrain path and called it a terrain wall.
-
Try using something other than a terrain path for your "terrain wall". A terrain path will follow the terrain.

Did you do it manually or did you select the room and then click on the icon in the dbx for room molding and set it from there?
The room molding selection will automatically break around windows and doors, but not necessarily for backsplashes ( I think).
-
I believe the "ticks" need to be smaller than the wall thickness.

So this for a dashed line to ensure that a portion of the line draws at the endpoints?
Why don't you do a test and change the value and see what happens? Trial and error is a good teacher.

I place all text in the elevation before it's sent to the layout. I try not to add ant text in the layout 99.9% of the time.
-
Thanks Jim. I knew it had something to do with the way lines appear.
-
I think I remember something about that if your line styles such as dashes don't look right, then this setting could be the problem.
-
Richard, BTW, I have found that many times when you have this situation, you can do view to cad with the elevation and it will look okay and then send that to the layout. Either way, when you have this problem, there's extra steps to do to make the elevation look correct in the layout.
-
SOME wall elevations are showing the side wall extents in Layout, others are not. See example attached. The dining room looks good before I send it to Layout, then the wall line disappears. The bath next to it in Layout is okay. (BTW, the layout window is oversized to be large enough to include the side line.) These two views have exactly the same layer set. Any idea what might be going on? ("Room" layer is turned on in both.)
I find that this happens a lot. It's very random and frustrating. Just add a cad line in the layout if you want.

It sounds like he wants construction docs too and not get paid anything until it's approved. That's not how it works. Maybe a 14 year old would agree to this but a 14 year old wouldn't have the knowledge to get anything through a permit office or likely be able to afford a program like CA. One thing he is right about, he'll probably not find anyone here to agree on these terms.

I like to enable the bloom filter when the ray trace is finished but before exporting it. Adds a nice ambient glow to the image.
That gives an interesting effect. I bumped up the settings and it gives a nice foggy look.

We have a free online meeting Monday, Sept. 8, 2014 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm (Central Time). If you would like to attend, then please send me an email using my email address shown in my signature. Feel free to call me if you need more information. I'm moving it back a week due to the holiday. Hope everyone has a safe holiday.
Sincerely,

I agree with you except just telling him that it doesn't work right doesn't tell him how to remedy the problem.

Yes you can. Use a macro in Chief for the living area. That's the only way. There was a recent thread about this topic.
See this thread.

Windows Tighter Into Corner
in General Q & A
Posted
Heather, here is an example of how to make two windows join together. I did this example at our user meeting. Call me or email me if you want to know how I did it. I did no changes to the wall framing. Windows only. I can show you online. I put a slab between the windows to represent a metal piece to fasten the two pieces of glass.
