  1. When I was learning the program, roofs were the hardest for me because all the builders here now make the roofs as complicated as possible. Louis Fernandez taught me the program and made me learn how to do roofs manually (mainly trial and error on my own) because most of the time Chief won't completely do the roofs the way ours are done and therefore you better know how to edit roofs manually or you're in trouble. I'm so glad he made me learn roofs manually because now there's practically not a roof I can put together one way or another (automatically, manual or partial manual). I get a lot of people calling me about doing roofs. I'll always remember him telling me that if I can't do roofs, then I will not be much help to him if I'm going to work for him.

  2. I understand that Louis Fernandez referred you all to a girl for this position. I don't know her or her knowledge of the program but if she needs help figuring something out concerning the program, have her give me a call and maybe I can assist. I live in Spring Branch so I don't think I'm too far from you or could assist online. You could also let her know that I head up the Houston User Group and we have meetings once a month. We're there to help people out with the program. It's free and online.

  3. If your plan files are running slow for you then why not SENT IT TO TECH SUPPORT, or purchase a stronger computer. Apparently there are high poly count items and cad files that are possibly slowing you down. By now, you should know what to do. If you feel CA has poor programing, then hey, there are other programs out there that may suit your needs better.

  4. thanks tommy you are right, i did it just to show an example,

i am sure, those volutes you posted can be done by this way,i will try to post a picture similar to your one.

the other guys here, the major area of concern here is modeling in chief, your code is there

and not the issue, if you need, i will help you how to do it using your code!

send me an e-mail or come to Ethiopia to learn those things you don't know :D

Thanks for the invite but I'll probably stay here for now.

  5. Here is a library of popular microwaves and warming drawers. Some insert into full-height cabinets and some are under-cabinet mounted. Some are 24" and some are 30".

I have even included a set of pre-built full-height cabinets with these inserted that should take on the characteristics of the cabinets in your plan.

Some of these have higher face counts than I think necessary, but since you'll typically be using only one or two per plan, I think it'll be fine. Use at your own discretion.

    Enjoy!

Brinkbart, I meant to tell you that these are some really good looking appliances.

  6. Here is one way to add volutes to stairs. This plan attached explains how I did it in steps. In the plan, I have a 3d molding polyline ready to go that you can add to your library. There is also a handrail profile to add to your library too if you want. It's a common handrail used here and is not in Chief's library. This method basically uses a landing for the first tread and a 3d molding polyline for the volute and handrail. Balusters for the volute are placed manually. You can always make your own 3d polyline to use. There are other ways to do this but this is how I do it. It looks pretty good in plan view too. X6 Plan file.

  7. Wow- do you two mean that you actually create the volute handrail out of a "landing"????Sounds pretty amazing. I'd love to hear how you do it!

    Thanks,

    Phyllis

Phyllis, I'm working on a new tutorial plan for doing volutes. If you send me an email at my email address below, I'll sent it to you to look at and you can tell me what you think. It will be basic. You could alter anything to make it look closer to what you actually do.

  8. Thanks Tommy appreciate the time spent, nice you used X3 too ,it means these will work in Pro 10 I still have too as like DJP I try to help over on Hometalk too ,some users there may appreciate these too.

and thanks Brinkbart for the original library too.

You're welcome. It took about 5 hours to do all of the library mainly because I wasted so much time trying to make one part of the library work.

  9. Okay, Here is the Microwave & warming drawer library that can be opened starting with X3. I couldn't get X2 to let me create anew folder in my library for some reason so I did it in X3. The only difference with this library is that I couldn't get the "prebuilt" items to work right and deleted them. So what I did was edit the original symbols so that now you can place the same appliances in cabinets just like any other appliances that fit into a cabinet. I tested these in X5 and all was good. I made them in X3 so I know it works fine there. Hopefully this works for people who haven't upgraded to X6 yet. If you have X6, then you might just download the original X6 file posted here. BTW, keep in mind that the 30" ovens need to be deeper than 24" for them to fit in the cabinet.

  10. Mick, if you like, send me an email at my email address below and I'll do an online meeting with you and show you. If you don't want to do that, let me know. Since I'm running real slow this week on work, I might go ahead and make a library of those symbols that can be used in any version starting with X2 (.calibz files). It is good to know though how to do this if you ever decide you would like to share a symbol with someone who has an earlier version. Doing a single symbol is fast. Doing complete libraries takes a lot more time.

  11. Look yall, this is all about file management when dealing with layouts and different hard drives mostly. If you are the only person working on the plan on that specific hard drive, then problems with associated files and a layout is minimal as long as you DON'T change the path from which something was sent to the layout like rearranging files in Windows Explorer (or Windows Browser) after you sent something to the layout. This will change the path of the file sent to the layout and therefore cause an association issue with the layout. If more than one person is going to be working on a plan with different computers (hard drives), then file association issues between the users will happen if everything associated with the plan and layout is not in a single main folder. This means that if sharing plans between hard drives then you either need to use something like DropBox or Zip the folder with the files and send it to the other person, or move the folder to the other hard drive via jump drive. Most of the plans I work on will have between two to three people working on it at different times. File management is critical once the layout is started. Textures are not an issue if you are the only person working on it on a single hard drive. But when sharing between multiple people, you have to be careful about textures used in a plan. For example if I use a texture that I know the other person doesn't have on their computer, then I know that I need to put that texture (image file) in the folder or they will get an error as soon as they take a render camera telling then that there is an image file missing. By me putting that texture (image) in the folder, I know that they will see it in a render. However, just because it's in the folder doesn't mean that they will be able to assign that texture to a new item in the plan. They will have to take that image (texture) from the folder, put it in a separate folder and then do a "convert texture to material" so that it will then be in their library so that they can assign that new texture to something. Bottom line, if you keep all associated plan files, layout files, new textures if your sharing, or any file sent to the layout in a folder, you will not have any file association problems. I have helped many people over the years that call me and want to know why a layout doesn't update or is losing items. I have been able to fix it and find the problem 100% of the time.

Side note: Symbols from the library do transfer from computer to computer and should not be an issue BUT the textures for the symbol is can be an issue. Custom molding profiles used for crown, baseboards, banding, etc.. will be an issue too if the other person wants to add that profile to something new in the plan. This is why I always place the new custom profile in a cad detail in the plan so that they can add it to their library if they need to use it for something new in the plan.
