  1. I am working on the plans for a new house with slab foundation. The footings around the garage doors are not generating correctly. They are extending out past the outside edge of the walls by around 6 inches. I want the outside edge of the footing to align with the outside edge of the stud wall. I have marked up problem areas on the plans. Could someone take a look at the attached plan and let me know how get the footings around the garage doors to generate correctly. Thanks, Mike 178 Arcturus Street Design Plan-2.zip
  2. Thanks for the suggestions. I will try that today.
  3. When drawing a patio/porch with concrete slab, how do you get the conc. slab to extend past the posts by 6" to 12" ? I am working on a patio where I am using 6x6 posts on an 18"x18" stone base. 6" of the stone base is off the slab. Thanks, Mike
  4. Your right. Turning off temporary dimension greatly speeded everything up. I did not know temporary dimensions took so much processing power, Thanks, Mike
  5. I have a Dell XPS. It's around 3 years old.
  6. I was sent a survey plan drawn in AutoCAD. I converted it into a .plan format. The file size is large and hard to work with. Is there a way to reduce the file size ? When I click on a line get a long delay before I can do anything. Thanks, Mike Site Plan.plan
  7. Is there a way to change the spacing of electrical outlet spacing when using the auto place outlet command ? The building departments require the outlets to be placed every 6'-0" in bedrooms, living rooms, etc. and 4'-0" in kitchens. Also an outlet on walls 4'-0" and longer. Thanks, Mike
  8. I'm working on a room addition project with a slab foundation. After inputting the field measurements into Chief for a room addition project, I would like to lock the existing foundation plan so it does not change when I build the foundation for the new room addition. Is there way to do this ? When I use the build foundation plan after inputting the new addition floor plan, the existing footings between the existing exterior wall and the new addition are removed. Thanks, Mike
  9. Thanks Glenn, that worked. Mike
  10. How do I show the wall that is behind this wall ? That wall has a footing and 24" high. I tried the bay window tool. The problem is this only works for a straight wall. This 12" projection wraps around a corner.
  11. I just started inputting field measurements on a remodel project the contractor started with permits. Needless to say he got caught. On two of the front walls of this house the top portion of the wall projects out 12" from the lower wall. I have included the plan I am working on along with a picture of this wall. In the picture this wall is to the right of the Porta Potty. Does anyone know how to draw this type of wall ? Thanks, Mike As-Built Plan.plan
  12. I am working on a remodel project where we are adding some new windows. Is there a way to have those new windows show the window schedule callout as it shown on the floor plans ? Thanks, Mike
  13. Thank you for putting together the video. Originally I did not draw the invisible walls through the fireplace footing. When I did that half of the foundation was missing. I tried the invisible walls to see if the would work and Chief would draw the whole foundation. That did not work. Your solution worked. Thank You, Mike
  14. I am inputting a floor plan of a house that I measured today. The house is a rectangle with raised foundation. Simple. The front of the house has a masonry fireplace on the exterior wall. I used Chiefs fireplace tool to place the fireplace. This is causing a problem with placing the raised foundation. Chief will draw the footings for the back of the house but is missing all of the footings in the front of the house where the fireplace is placed. Does anyone know why Chief is not drawing the footings in the room where there is a fireplace ? I have attached the drawing. Thank You, Mike Newstrom As-Built Plan.plan
  15. I looked in the library and did not see the wall data. I found what I was doing wrong. First you need to be in X13 and export the wall data to the desktop. Then in X14 import the wall data from the desktop. Thanks
  16. I just upgraded to X14 from X13. The X13 wall definitions to not get exported to X14. I'm trying to import the wall definitions, but I can not find the file for the wall definitions are saved. Does anyone know where the wall definitions are saved ? Thanks, Mike
  17. I am working on a pool cabana and using square columns from Chiefs library. Is there an easy way to modify Chiefs columns ? Chiefs column has a 12" high molding at the top and bottom of the columns. I would like to reduce them to 4" high. I also would like to vertically lengthen the panel molding on each side of the column. I have attached the file I am working on. Thanks, Mike Carney-Cabana 1.plan
  18. Cross hatch without background works. I had not tried that button before. Thanks Chapsaw, Mike
  19. I am working on a small TI project in a strip center. I am using a light gray fill to highlight the entire building. I want to use a cross hatch fill to identify the location of the TI within the building. When I do this the light gray fill disappears. I want the cross hatch fill to be over top of the light gray fill. Is there a way to have a fill over the top of another fill without one of them disappearing ? Thanks, Mike
  20. Thanks Chopsaw and MarkMc, That worked. I was selecting the arc then made a copy then selected concentric copy. When I did it that way the most of the edit handles were not there anymore. It worked when I did it the way MarkMc suggested. Select spline , copy paste in place, select concentric copy, pic one of the diamond edit handles and move it in the desired direction, hit the tab key and input the desired distance. For arcs you select the small circle instead of the diamond. Thanks, Mike
  21. I am working on a site plan for a small commercial project. There is a number of existing curved sidewalks on the side. I am drawing one side of the curved sidewalk and then wanting to offset that curved line for the other side of the sidewalk. The concentric copy is not working correctly on curved lines. It's just making a copy of the curve without changing the radius. The concentric copy command works fine on a complete circle but it does not work for arcs or splines. Does anyone know how to do offset arcs and curves ? Thanks, Mike
  22. When I delete an object I get asked if I want to delete the selected object. I know there is a setting where I can turn this off but I can not find it. Does anyone know where this setting is ? Thanks, Mike
