  1. I have two cross section lines A & B and I have turned off the Cross Section A in the foundation (Plan Display) and now it no longer shows on the floor plan.  How do I turn it back on so it shows on the floor plan but not on the foundation plan?  If is is no longer showing how do I choose it to show?

  2. yeah, those could work. However - what I thought I might need these for turns out to not be the case..

    Thanks.

Im with you Dennis.  I do a lot of pavers for clients and I just can't get the right ones.  I would be nice if we had some CalSTone Pavers in our library.

  3. I could very well be incorrect, but you may need to lower your roof planes for the size rafter you have.  Id select the roof planes and lower by the calculation correct to get your birds-mouth dimensions you want.   Essentially your baselines need to be lower for that (2x8?) to seat correctly on the top plate.

Someone is going to ask you post the plan....as there may be a better way to do what you want.

Johnny, Yeah I don't want to lower my roof plane as it would not plane into the existing roof. This is not an individual occurrence it is on all the roofs I have drawn for this project.  There has to be another explanation.

  4. Once again this might be a simple fix but I can't seem to figure it out.  I have my framing and i have made sure Automatic Bridsmouth is checked but when I do a backclipped cross section it is not showing my birdsmouth cut it shows it simply sitting on the outside edge of the wall like a truss would be.  Any ideas?  Picture attached

  5. I know that there is a simple way but I am having trouble figuring this out.  I am drawing a polyline solid on a gable wall and I want it to be parallel with the angle of the roof.  How do I accomplish this, I can't find any info.  Help is greatly appreciated.

  6. I tried to update my video card today from Nvidia's latest 3/7/16 update. Don't do it if you have dual monitors going on. It will crash your system so bad that you need to use a restore point to get back. So at least create one before you try it. First one ever from them for me. They agree is it a problem for people using multiple monitors. I would wait until they fix it.

So True So True.  I have dual Monitors as well as a Nvidia CArd and I crash constantly right in the middle of something important as well.  I am about to upgrade my my card and hopefully fix the problem.

  7. I bow to thee Alaskan_Son, you made your point very well, almost to well that maybe you should be working at Chief.  Nice tutorial.  YOU DA BOMB.  I will be using some of those techniques.

Here is the final rendition of what I was trying to achieve when I asked the question of how to divide an area equally.

    Thanks again,

  8. Ok, since I am the OP I am going to clarify that the answer to this original question is not just dividing a line into 4 equal parts its dividing into any equal parts.  Multiple Copy is the only way this can be done properly.  Joe is correct it does not work breaking a line because you can only do it in equal numbers.  Thanks for all the comments all are good but just know that there are other out there that benefit from this as much as I do is a great.

  9. Maybe I don't understand Ken's method, but if I do, then his method requires you to know the length of the line, and use a calculator to divide it by 4, then multiple copy 5 lines with the calculated answer; and if the line length is an ugly fraction, then your calculated interval will be even uglier. I'm not saying my method is better, but the mouse/calculator clicks are about even, and mine lets Chief do the math.

no you just draw a line and then use the multiple copy and set the interval of the divided areas you would like to have.  Super simple and that is what I was looking for.

  10. I just took the time to set all my templates in upper case text. Only have to do it once. I also converted all my existing notes on the layout to upper.

The only way to do it!  I have been using all caps since high school 30 years ago and that is the way I have always done it.  Unless I have some notes I will sometimes use the lower case but for the most part I set up my template to be consistent and only caps.

  11. Ok guys, I know there is a way to do it and I can't keep spending time trying to find it so I am hoping that someone can help me figure this out.  I am trying to do a coffered ceiling and I want the grid to be equal boxes.  the way I usually do it in AutoCAd is take a line and divide that line equally to fin the centers of m beam.  How can I divide a line into 4 part or distribute a line along a line.  I have tried align/distribute but when I pick the line it does not give me the capability to distribute along the line just align...

  12. Thank you all for your positive comments and I agree this is one nice beg upgrade just for this feature alone but there are many more and I hope they keep getting better.

As for my settings, it is pretty easy as I send my views off with only Vector view, no color and just play with the adjust Sunlight angles until you like what you see.  I keep the intensity at 100% but adujst the Tilt and Direction until I feel it looks like what I am trying to capture.

  13. I love the new shadow featture in x8 it gives my drawings that much more of a punch that I was missing.  I used to have a block in AutoCAD that I would bring in to add that just to give it more of a Architectural Hand drawing that all CAD programs seem to leave out.  Every thing helps as each program evolves.  Now if I could just ask CA to outline all my Elevations to emphasize it that much more.  One other thing that I wish Chief would get rid of is all those damn Arrows and simplify it down to only a few and add a nice thick line Architectural Tic arrow.

  14. Seriously Justin maybe it is possible that you have been lifting way to many heavy things and don't understand the actual question as well not understanding the visual presentation of the PDF.  We are all talking about the eliminating the small vaulted portion of the ceiling as to have a longer seat cut to the rafter and nothing to do with the tail of the rafter.  Raising the ceiling height does not fix the issue of the the wall height nor eliminating the small vaulted portion.  (Just sayin   )

  15. Wow Jon, $3600 for a Laptop...  I primarily use my Desktop for Chief and then my MacBook pro 15 for client presentations.  Do you do all your work on the ASUS?  Still using a #2 Pencil as well, I have kids so I can't seem to keep them around so I switched to the IPad and a Disto.
