I don't know what you are trying to do Mark. If you are trying to figure out if you can do something once you have cut to cad, describe to me what you would do if you could, and i will do a quick (quick is relative) video for you if it will help you with your decision.

I feel your pain, buddy, it's brutal around here. This is what I have been able to get by with lately, but who knows how long it will last.
I use ply on exterior face down over double and then an h-2.5 at interior side at stud to rim. Pretty much the same idea.

I have CT on 4 devices. I never log out. If I am gone for several hours and come back to it, I must log back in. Fortunately I have apple and they have " keychain". Which remembers the password, so it is hitting "return" key for me.
Yep, did not have this issue before.

Sorry about that problem, it was my code so I missed it. The update is nearly through testing so with luck we won't see this anymore.
Appreciate the honesty.

Hey Develospec, I like your plumbing diagram. Really like the way you used the colors. Trying to show a 1/4" per fall seems like a lot of work to go thru..... but I get it..... you want it. But I have to say for the last 40 years I have been in the business, somehow the plumbers have figured out this stuff without me telling them how to do it.
It's so funny now as to the level of detail that is expected/required/needed for a set of house plans. My favorite analogy is the framer that needs a detail to show him the required penetration of a 16d toenail and the required edge distance.
I recently did a job, had to go back to the plan checker 3 times to work out that the 4' long 42" hi railing wall at some stairs (you know, 2x4 @ 16 oc with drywall each side) , that was secured at each end to a wall, met the 20#/l.f. horizontal load requirements. Is that nutty? Can you imagine how much it cost the client to pay me, the engineer, the plan checker, the permit runner, the print shop to prove to this nitwit that a 42" hi wall that is 48" long that is nailed at each end to a wall, will not fall over if someone leans against it. Common sense people, let's use some common sense. At least I did not have to detail the 16d nailing connections....... heck, why am I complaining?

I can't believe the terrain would have an effect. To test this you could delete the terrain.
I think your house would be a nightmare to edit and copy area to a different plan, so many things going on with the spaces within your house.

I have no scientific evidence to support this but I would venture to guess that for every week (40 hours) of production drawing with Anno sets (properly set up in your base file) you can save at least 4 hours.
Actually Alan, I did do a controlled scientifice evaluation of the value of anno sets and you are almost correct, I found they save 4.3 hours/40 hours of work (minus the time I spend on this site learning new tricks).

Yes, I created all four floors in each plan.
Plan 1 has Floor 1&2 finished & floors 3 & 4 blank.
Plan 2 has Floor 1,2,3 &4 finished.
When I copy Floor 3 or 4 from Plan 2 to the corresponding Floor of Plan 1 they don't go to the correct elevation. I'm given a message that the old and new elevations are not the same.
I think you said you were copying floor 3 of existing to floor 3 of new. Have not checked out, but maybe you have to somehow predefined floor 1 and 2 elevations for the new floor 3 to come in a correct location. No matter, I would assume it is a simple matter of adjust the elevations in the floor dvx.

This is working for me. Have you created all four floors in each plan so that each floor has the proper place to copy to?
I think that is the step that you are missing JC.

d dot,
Try chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com for the new one and chieftalk.com for the old one.
Don't you use favourites or shortcuts or whatever mr mac calls them.
Back at office, accessed new site by typing in CHIEFTALK.COM, and on the home computer, I typed in CHIEFTALK.COM and that one went to old forum. (done in safari)
Just another example of the inconsistencies in my computer world......... and I ain't even go to the WOOD FLOOR OVER CONCRETE GARAGE issues...... I spent so much time on that, and I still can't quite figure it out.
If I am using Google chrome, I go to old web site on office mac.
On PC both IE and Google Chrome take me to old web site using chief talk.com
On PC both IE and Google Chrome take me to new web site using chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com ( as Glenn stated)
So it is only on office mac using safari that chief talk.com goes to new site. So on the mac at office I do not know how to get to old site.

I am on home computer, using safari, new window in safari, type in CHIEFTALK, takes me straight to the old forum, from there I can get to new forum. So if I am on home computer, I open a new browser window, how do I go straight to new forum? When I get to the office in AM I will see how that works on Safari, I am assuming if I type in CHIEFTALK in new browser window using Safari on office mac, it will take me to new forum and not the old forum.
Two computers doing two differdent things, what's new? I got on my iphone today and if I go to contacts to look up a number, I no longer get the keyboard to type in name...... I have to scroll down to find contact....... I think I am cursed.....
-
Yep, not working for me either.
-
Sorry about that. It was a mistake on our end.
It should be working correctly now.
Appreciate that, but how do we get there? Thanks.

This is nutty, come on CA, at least let us get a chance to go back to old forum to review past posts. We don't need to post, we just want to get there to find older info, thank you, thank you very much.

You know, I could really care less if I'm the only one who uses it. I do use it and it's a tool that I like and Chief provides. I still want it to work like it did in previous versions. If you like to use other tools then I suggest you use what ever tool "floats your boat". I wish people would answer the question I asked initially about the tool in question instead of going off on another tool.
Sorry about that Tommy, I thought the question had been answered. Here is the answer.
In layout I use the %box_scale% in the layout label, something Perry introduced me to. I love it, the scale remains constant.
Prior to that I used the %scale% , this I used the the PLAN FILE, not the LAYOUT. If you use the %scale% in your PLAN FILE, you will now see the scale change as you zoom in and out. I believe this is what you are looking for.
-
Glenn, if you teach me, I will make a vid.
-
Joe, I was thinking Tommy's option was still there. And im with you, I don't understand how he would use it, but what ever floats his boat.
-
Is this the sort of thing you are after?
I just spent a long time explaining how I did it.
The post was auto saving, but I lost everything when I went to More Reply Options to attach a pic.
Anyway...here is the pic and if anyone wants an explanation, I will type it again.
Hey Glenn, just do a vid.

You can select them all and then raise all at one time. Don't know what layer they are on, but lock all layers except that one, group select and raise all at once. I assume you know all that.
I'm still thinking on this.......
-
It's the Perry method, and I too like it better.
-
I use the box scale and like it better, please don't change it
-
Of course, you do realize you can extend multiple lookouts by using the extend and fence tools, but yes, not auto.
Simple gable roofs easy, throw in some hips or an entire hip roof, and a lot more work.

I did not explain my problem correctly. On my plot plan, when I open the polyline specification display, I select under Line Style the boxes that " Show Angle, Show Length, Show All Angles. It displays on the plot plan, but the print is so small I can't read it without zooming in to see the length and angle. This is the text size I want to increase.
Aha, an easy answer. The size of that text is controlled by the layer the box is on. If you want that box to have a different size text than any other box in your plan, put the box on it own unique layer and DEFINE THE TEXT SIZE FOR THAT LAYER in the LAYER DISPLAY OPTIONS DBX. Remember, the only thing that controls that text size is the layer that it is on.
Can I get a star for that answer? By the way, good question, I do not think I realized the answer until you asked the question (I am always a few years behind everybody else).

As I related in my first post.
Have a great week,Ken
You say that you are using roof blocking, but it was my experience that the roof blocking would be discontinuous at each truss or rafter. I am assuming that is the issue Graehe was having.
Are you using roof blocking and if so, why does your roof blocking remain continuous without a break at each truss?

in black and white view I did the cut to cad and ran strings of dimensions took 5 seconds. It pick up all cad lines as expected.
in coloured view I did wall elevation, blue dimensions are the auto cabinet dimensions, took 0.0025 seconds. The red dimensions are my string dimensions, took 3.5 seconds.
Hopefully that answers your question.
As a side note, I would never cut to cad, to pick up the tops or bottom of doors, I would simply put in cad lines, run a string and I would have the dimensions I wanted, in my mind that is much much better and more controllable than cutting to cad. My kitchens change all the time, I want the elevations to be live. But you probably already knew that.
