  1. Do you have an example that you could post or is this something that could be done with a simple cad line grid?
  2. CA library metal materials are designed to show their finish when Ray Traced.
  3. Rich, may I ask how you were able to eliminate the "cut out line" of the window symbol? I thought this would have to wait until layout but you seem to have dealt with it in your live elevation view.
  4. Create a window symbol with the shape at the top, flip it upside down, and then manually patch that little triangle area with a polyline solid. I'm assuming the latter is what Rich did. (Alaska_Son post #22) Not quite sure what happened to Rich but I am quite sure this is what he did.
  5. Not an expert at this but maybe try dropping the - (negative) for the latitude. A little slow I see but I would go with the local knowledge. Thanks Glenn
  6. Hi Roz, I fixed a few things for you , I changed your scale to 1" = 20' and turned on your dimensions so that you can figure out what that ~6' discrepancy on the left side is all about. Plot lines can be edited individually so you don't have to start all over unless of course you need the practice. Just take a look at the Fix plan and try to duplicate on you own plan so you will know how it all works. Just noticed the survey you posted, you will have to manually arc the front line on the west side. If you decide to do some manual editing go to Preferences and turn on your Start and End Indicators, so you know which end of the line to lock. This will reduce you frustration level. 7. No sorry, unless Glenn has a secret you must break your dimension string up to do this. You can see the slight telltale offset in his string if you look carefully. That is how it works for me. Sometimes I will break up a string to share segments between layers but you can usually line them up so it does not show, so I think Glenn was in a hurry to create his example or purposely left a little offset so as not to deceive us. Chopsaw PS Here is the Dimension Line Specification DBX for Segments so you can remove a Segment from the middle of a long string.
  8. THE CA TRAINING VIDEO'S ARE HERE https://video.chiefarchitect.com/?search=plot+plan THEY ARE ALWAYS A GOOD PLACE TO START. GIVE THEM A TRY AND IF YOU GET STUCK OR DON'T UNDERSTAND SOMETHING POST A SPECIFIC QUESTION.
  9. Yes that will work for a few selected dimensions or dimension strings or even all of them but if you would like to change all or the majority of dimensions in your plan then you should consider changing your default rather than selectively turning it off.
  10. Alan, Open your dimension Line to get the Dimension Line Specification DBX and turn off Default formatting for your specific dimension line and choose whatever format you like. You can even set up your own units if you like to measure some other way. Lots of choices here.
  11. Michael, You and Larry have both clearly stated that this is a good option but Glen has not come through with a short video to explain how it works. I do not want to speak for Todd but he has since restated the same question possibly not understanding using "referenced layer sets" in this situation or maybe just looking for another option. Could you give a brief summary of how this would work?
  12. I will let the experts expand on or shoot down this idea as I have not tested it myself but have heard talk of exporting multiple plans to the same page of layout to combine them. Could this work for a situation like Todd has?
  13. There will likely be many correct answers to you question but if you need to show a detail like that you may want to switch to using a polyline solid which gives many more options for shape. The rod would be a little more difficult but could be done with a Cylinder. Is it an inside or outside corner? You could just show an end cap (Partition) and let the carpenter decide if he wants to build into the corner. There is some intelligent discussion about 45 degree shelves in this post but even I do not understand how it was accomplished so maybe if you were to ask then we would all know. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/3443-shelf-and-rod-suggestion/?hl=shelf
  14. Hi Steve and others, Hope this is helpful for any custom work that you do in the future. This will be an intermediate level summary that is designed to place custom muntins in Core catalogue doors that have windows but do not allow automatic lights in the DBX or cad blocked "Custom Muntins" with this tool, . Open new plan and place a short section of wall in your floor plan. Place a door from the Core Catalogue, convert wall type to "Room Divider". Open door DBX and remove Casings, remove Hardware by setting handles to "None", Locks "None", and Hinges to "Hidden". Open and elevation view and place cad lines on glass and convert them to "3D Molding Polylines". Open DBX for 3D Molding Polylines and set your height, width and material for the Muntins ( 3D Molding Polylines ) and use the Profile Offset to keep them centered over your cad lines. Center Muntins in glass with Transform & Replicate tool. Open Perspective Full Overview with only door ( & invisible room divider ) in plan. Create symbol as "Door" and give name and use Smoothing Angle of ~20 deg. for similar quality to original. This method should also allow for more creative grill patterns and could also be combined with using polyline solids for stained glass as I discussed in post #5 here: https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/9412-special-window/ I have tested this method but would be glad to hear if anyone has a more efficient method that produces the same result. I created an E03 door with Prairie grills while composing this post so if you would like one of those for your library please help yourself and if you use this method successfully please feel free to share some of your creations here. Enjoy, Chopsaw E03 Prairie.calibz
  15. Yes this tool is only a temporary delete so the very next thing you must do is create the new symbol. Then you have it in your user library for use any time. See link to Joe's answer here: https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/8375-editing-3d-warehouse-objects/
  16. This is after importing your .skp collection into CA and displaying in a camera view when creating the new individual symbols.
  17. I was experimenting with this recently and it is possible to do in CA. I found in a thread that you can open your collection and just before recreating a new symbol use the "Delete Surface" tool to temporarly eliminate the items you don't want and then repeat.
  18. CJ, Thanks for the informative overview summary, and the complements. Just a quick edit that you could do to help others, I referred to my door as a 9 lite, so I think the E16 should be referred to as a 12 lite. Would it be helpful for me to summarize the procedure here so others can create their own custom doors?
  19. This is how the wall above (as viewed from the outside) keeps framing. I know that I can manually straighten and reframe it but I would really like to know what is causing this. I think it must be somehow related to the foundation because the sill plate is sinking into the masonry at the same angle and I think there is no way to edit that. Strangely enough the subfloor does not follow this pattern. The adjoining wall on the left (of the Wall framing Detail) is also affected in a similar way but not the other two.
  20. There is a free download available in the 3D library that is called Wire and Lattice Material in the Materials and Surfaces section. I have scaled down the square mesh pattern to keep large bugs out.
  21. Hi Johnny, That was cool I logged out to find video for you and came back and logged back in to edit my post and pressed the edit button and everything disappeared. Wow!!! Any way here is the video that might be part of the solution to your problem. https://video.chiefarchitect.com/?playlist=49 CA #5303 if the link does not work. Or if you don't have SSA then all you do is set up a cross-section or in your case maybe a back clipped cross-section would be more precise and then use the break line tool to cut and stagger the cut plane of the camera to achieve the desired effect and eliminate as much clutter as possible and show what you need to show. Chopsaw.
  22. I know exactly what you want Johnny and there is a tool that I think was introduced in X7 that I have not utilized but may do some of what you want. I will find and post the CA video for you since I don't make my own yet. The tool gives you the option to break and stagger the cut plane of a cross-section or back clipped cross-section camera. I think you are frustrated enough to figure it out and teach us all about it.
  23. Yes I have checked all the foundation walls now and none have "floor hangs on wall" checked.
  24. All good there Scott, Do you think maybe the bricks are too heavy?
