Glenn - Thanks for your detailed explanations concerning my observations and assumptions. It might be how I envision how these shadows/contrasts are determined From my perspective they must be based upon some source of light, either the default generic sunlight or some other internal light source. The light source depending upon it's angle and direction would then determine the degree of shading/shadowing and it's angular direction. When the vector elevation is in color mode I assume based upon my former assumption that it would also impact on a colors intensity in respect to it's location in respect to the angular direction of the light source. Not sure this helps to explain my thought process or it's validity. Just trying to understand this in order to obtain a better handle on how to get a desired appearance within realistic expectations. You can always go to their download website and read the release notes. That will tell you if they have done anything that will improve your performance. Most of these driver revisions are to address or add very specific game related issues. If that's the case then the update is not necessary unless you play that particular game. Graham

One thing with laptops with a discrete graphics card is to make sure that the power plan is set to maximum performance. I believe there is also a similar setting in the graphics card management software. Most laptops will actually switch between the integrated & discrete graphics in order to save on power. Setting the power plans to maximum performance for all modes , plug or battery, will override this feature. Graham

The original poster showed several vector views taken from walls at right angles. The background wall colour displays at a different level of brightness. This is due to the sun angle being different. You can replicate this by shooting an elevation into the corner of two intersecting walls. You will notice that the wall color will be different. This is because the light used in the vector view is not striking the surfaces at the same angle. To overcome this you need to be able to adjust the angle and direction of the light source. In other view formats such as std, duo, technical, water colour & painting the sunlight adjustment works to provide this capability. From what I can determine this option does not function in vector or glass house views. Graham
-
I may be wrong but the fact that you can't adjust the sunlight in vector view is why you need to use your solution. As can be seen adjusting the contrast ratio does not correct for the difference in the overall wall colour between the scenes. This is because the sun angle is fixed and is striking the adjacent wall at an angle different that the other wall. Graham

I know you can play with the shadows but the problem is as I mentioned that for some reason the adjust sun does not function for Vector view. Without this you can't even (balance) out the lighting to be even when shooting adjacent walls. This is why the lines in the tile show differently in the OP' elevations. You can test this by shooting an elevation at a 45 degree angle into a corner. In vector view one side will be of a different intensity than the other. Change view type to say technical, now you can go into the adjust sunlight and adjust the two sliders to get the light even on both walls. Graham

I have played with this way too long. I have isloated this down to what I believe is the problem. It appears that the Adjust Sun funtion for some reason is not connected to the Vector View or Glass House. Works fine in Std, Duo and Technical, Painting and Water Colour. Graham

Instead of doing a roll-back you can down load the driver version package you want directly from the Nvida download site and run the installer. This will override the device manager and install the driver package. Kind of like a clean full install. Graham

Just roll-back the driver. It is unlikely that there is anything in the new driver that would be of benefit anyways. Most of these updates are for special game related functions. You can always read the release notes to confirm. Graham

Agree 100 %. You got my vote +1 Graham -
Polyline Solids & Molding Line Layer Assigment Options?

Ok I understand. It's defined/assigned under the Line Style versus an individual layer tab. Really appreciate your help and quick response. Thanks Johnny !!! -
Polyline Solids & Molding Line Layer Assigment Options?
TheKitchenAbode replied to TheKitchenAbode's topic in General Q & A
I might be missing something. If I open a Polyline solid or Molding line I do not see a Layer tab in the DBX for the object. Graham -
I am currently in the process of designing a custom island post using a combination of Polyline solids, Molding Lines and 3D Molding Polylines. Being custom I will need to generate shop production drawings. I would like to be able to isolate out particular elements but there does not appear to be any means to have them assigned to a layer other than the common default Cad or Moulding Layers. Is this even possible? or is there an alternative way to deal with this? Many Thanks, Graham

Rob - Let us know if you were able to get your screen back. Feel very concerned that my attempt to assist has resulted in further aggravation. Graham

You have to be fast on the F8 these days as our system boot-up much faster than before. I usually keep the F8 pressed down before hitting the power on and then keep it held down until the Safe Mode pops up. Same if you need to use an F2 to get into the Bios configuration settings. Graham

Bin there, done that. Try a reboot, even if you have to pull the plug. Graham

I believe for the audio drivers you need to access them from the Windows Device Manager. Possibly Dianne could clarify if in fact she meant the audio drivers or the video drivers. The Device Manager may also indicate as to whether or not the graphics card is being recognized, a yellow exclamation icon beside it's name indicates a problem with that device. If you open up the devices properties you will find options to update the driver, roll back the driver and to enable/disable the device. Sometimes just resetting it will do the trick. Keep in mind that there are times when you make changes here that you need to reboot your system for the changes to take effect. Graham

Not an expert in all of the wall controls/features but I think things like this are done using the primitive tools such as solids, cones, boxes and the likes. Certain other members will be able to provide more detailed guidance than I. Graham

Chief is correct in directing you to Nvidia. The graphics adapter used is not determined by Chief, this is between your system and the graphics adapter. The notification in preferences is just telling you that this is the adapter that your system is recognizing. Graham

Good observation Ken. Was uploaded on 4th of March 2016, almost 2 weeks before it was needed. Now that's what I call support !!! Graham

You should keep in mind that a filler is not a panel. Fillers are usually used where cabinets abutt to a wall or transition in corners. They are only say 3/4" thick and up to 3" in width and placed in alignment with the front cabinet box edge. When needed I just select the "Build" "Cabinet Filler" option as they are already properly configured. If you convert an existing cabinet to a filler you should also delete the front components and set the area "blank", otherwise you may get some strange lines displaying. Graham
-
There are two methods. one is to select the filler option in the "Build", "Cabinet Filler" or you can place a cabinet and open the objects DBX and beside "General", "type" check "Filler". Graham

Have mentioned this issue in several other postings of mine. My current solution is to make sure that shadows are turned off, need to do this before the camera view is opened otherwise you will go into an endless loop and have to quit Chief through the end task function in task manager. The only time this happens to me is on a laptop that only has an integrated graphics chip. Graham

Just took a waste can from Interior Acessories and stretched it out. Would this be close enough? Graham
