  1. I have CA Premier 10. I use a desktop. Processor info: i7-4790K CPU 4.00GHz.
  2. My bigger question is how to make ray traces look their absolute best. My walls end up looking sparkly. There are dark spots throughout, and materials aren't looking real. I know I have to learn more about material definitions. My walls look speckled and light isn't reflected onto the floor. Any suggestions on lighting for a ray trace? Thoughts?
  3. My bigger question is how to make ray traces look their absolute best. My walls end up looking sparkly. There are dark spots throughout, and materials aren't looking real. I know I have to learn more about material definitions. In the material definition dialogue box, I am supposed to be able to move the teapot (or whatever shape you're using) around with my cursor, so I can see the effects of my changes. I am unable to move the object around. Thoughts?
  4. My bigger question is how to make ray traces look their absolute best. My walls end up looking sparkly. There are dark spots throughout, and materials aren't looking real. I know I have to learn more about material definitions. One video shows the wood floors looking realistic due to bump maps. But there is nothing explaining what a bump map is, where it is, how to get it, and how to apply it. Thoughts?
  5. Your photo gallery looks great!  I am having the worst time getting my ray traces to look realistic.  The walls are always speckled.  I know it's my materials settings.  Any suggestions on some basic standard settings I should use?  Thanks!

Well, it looks like you have the computing power needed.  Do you have your Default number of lights set at 100?

Default number of lights? No, I've never looked at that. Where would I find that?

Here is my latest RT. See the specs on the red sofa? Lighting is odd.  Floor has no texture.

Stager, I hope that these screenshots help in setting up defaults. When you find what works well for you, be sure to set your Templates to have those settings to save time on each plan.

I made a custom Toolbar that has really saved me a lot of futzing. It's very easy to do. I sincerely hope that these suggestions help.

  6. What happened to "final view"? Seems to be gone from X10. I can't figure out what settings to use to make realistic pictures. Seems like there are so many variables in every project, that I have to rethink the whole thing every time I want to Ray Trace. The training videos are all kind of old, not up to date with the latest version. Thanks for any help anyone can offer!
  7. Thank you . The text editing worked! To make furniture appear shaded, however, they will not all allow me to color them. Some will.
  8. Chopsaw I have looked at all text style options and can't find an option for making dimensions appear in a transparent box. Is this under defaults or preferences? I have looked everywhere. Also I do not have a DBX symbol, regarding my other question. Thanks
  9. Thank you. It works for some objects but not for all. I meant to also ask about the dimensions format for manual dimensions. Any way to get the number to have a transparent background? When the number has a white background it covers up some of the item I am measuring. Thanks!
  10. I can't seem to show furniture with hatch marks or solid color in floor plan view. Any suggestions?
  11. Is there a way to show people in 3D, in designed space? I want to show someone sitting in a chair so my client can see how the room fits.
  12. I am not able to save skp files and wondering how people are able to import from 3D Warehouse?
  13. I just upgraded to Premier and need to begin preparing for the cert exam. There is an outline of what you need to know for the exam, but it's so vague and there isn't a corresponding study/training area so that I can make sure to learn each area specific to what the exam will ask. Any advice on there on how to study for this? Thanks.
  14. When I send plans to a client, I want to include the plan view, which usually has the cameras already placed. I want to hide the camera from the plan view to make it easier for the client, without deleting the camera. I try to hide the camera in the display settings but it won't disappear from the plan view. What am I missing? Also, it's frustrating that I can't save camera views from one design to another. When I create options for a client, I like the camera view to be exactly the same to show the options more clearly. I have to recreate that camera view for every design option (or recreate the design and leave the camera view). I am surprised it doesn't allow us to save a camera view to reuse. Thanks.
  15. Thank you Eric. That helps. Taking this a step further, here is my elev view and a photo of the unfinished space (it's an attic). I have 2 beams that are not centered with the flat portion of the ceiling, and the slopes take the ceiling to different heights before meeting up with the flat ceiling. To the left of the window, the ceiling will be 76" high and to the right, 84". Not clear on how to make all my walls/roof lines/ceiling match up to the measurements on my elev image. Thanks!
  16. I always find roofs/ceilings to be confusing. Anyway, I am designing finished space in a ceiling. And I need to know what the ceiling heights are at various locations under the slanted roof, for placement of fixtures and furniture. Any help would be appreciated. Attic.plan
  17. When I create a double hung window, I want to have the upper sash with 6 lights and the lower sash with 9 lites. But it won't allow me to do this. Thoughts? Thanks!
  18. Does anyone know how to take a fabric swatch (using screen capture and adding to library) with perfect proportions? For example, a fabric swatch that you see online or in a store will show a small portion of what a whole yard would look like. And the swatch will indicate a pattern repeat, like a horizontal pattern repeat of 13" and a vertical repeat of 27". When I capture the material, I can de-select stretching it. But how do I tell CA to create a proportional piece of fabric using the material's specific pattern repeat?

    Roof

I am trying to draw this space that has a gable in the living room but regular straight ceiling in the adjoining dining room. I find it so hard to draw roofs and ceilings. Any help is appreciated. Here are the two facing gable height ceilings. Thanks!
  20. This is really perplexing. There is no reason for these black boxes to show. I need to show the reflection. I have tried everything.
  21. Thanks. So how do I get rid of that black box when I want to show a client a rendering that is not ray trace?
  22. I have created mirrors on two walls that intersect. The reflection shows this black shape that I can't get rid of. If I delete one mirror, the reflection disappears. If I have both, it appears. Any idea? It happens whether I use an object (framed mirror) or floor material or back-splash material. Thanks.
  23. Hi All: So I've asked this before but I don't know if it's perhaps been resolved. I do many variations of a project and like to show the variations in the exact same view to the client. It seems reasonable that I should be able to save a camera view and use it in another plan. But that's not an option as far as I can tell. I know the work-arounds. But they're time consuming. Am I missing something or is there no way to save a camera view in one plan and use it in another?
  24. Thanks everyone. I have played around with doing a slab, but it just looks odd. I think my question has been answered and I need to get Premier for this. Thanks!
