Just a thought, but are these Code-compliant? I sure wouldn't want to try and grab the handrail if I was falling! Maybe they are; I just haven't seen this style.

Nice, Robert. I especially like the the daylight shot and the vegetation. May have to dust off my copy of TM. I used it on a limited basis for exterior views when it first came out, but have been swamped with work for some time and just relying on CA. I hope X13 will be much improved in this area and their RTRT.

I suspect the chain was a challenge.

I have done many of these trusses and I always create them in section view. That way you can set the pitch in the same view they are drawn in. I then create a symbol using a 3D view. I add them to my user library and I don't have to create them again for a project with the same building size and roof pitch.

One tip: I create a large slab or polyline solid first to be used as the "backstop" for the truss parts. That way the components will build in front of the backstop. I simply delete the backstop before making the symbol.

I believe this is been requested since way back; but not yet.

You could also draw a polyline solid in section view sloped the way you want it. Have to adjust its position in plan view.

Hey, Yusuf! Nice to see you are still around.

I do mostly crawlspace foundations and basements. I have several different sizes of slab footings with slab concrete or masonry piers on top with the PT 2x bearing plate already drawn and placed in my template plan on the foundation level. They are placed off to the side and I just move them into the foundation space as needed. Takes a few minutes and done. I usually use the point-to-point move tool to accurately place them and the multiple copy tool to duplicate multiples where needed. Works great.

Graham, I always appreciate your input and examples. I followed your PBR thread closely when it was going strong; still go back to it sometimes. But your explanation above about not setting "the sun, lights and materials correctly" is the struggle I face. I may be like Larry, who has many times said, "I may just be a bonehead," but I constantly struggle with the lighting and materials. I just can't seem to get it thru my head the relationship between settings for the sun and the interior lights as well as what changes to make to the materials. And let's not even mention the ever-present "green cast" the backgrounds give a scene.

The best I have ever gotten was to export a model out of CA and into Twinmotion. It was a struggle at first but I did get some good views, especially exterior. If I had more time I am sure I could do better with Twinmotion.  But, like so many others, time is a premium right now. I'm hoping the lighting being more consistent between view types in X13 will help with the lighting issues. We will see.

Almost all standard views. I bought my current machine with PBR in mind, but I just can't justify spending the time to get good at it. Most of my clients will not pay for PBR's or RT's so I primarily use standard. That being said, the quality of standard views has certainly improved in recent years as well as the quality of CA materials available (I'm sure because of PBR and RT improvements).

I think they already have that with their Home Designer products. I have used CA for many years and it has always been a "love-hate" relationship like so many other areas of life. I appreciate the work CA does to bring us new or improved features with each new upgrade. But I certainly do not envy them for the position they are in trying to control their Business Model and Business Direction and try to please all (some) of their Professional users - what a dilemma! My hat's off to them!

This was my first thought when the person asked the question. I guess Scott Harris was maybe too caught up in the presentation to think of this simple, but effective, way to accomplish what the attendant seemed to ask.

One caveat using ACME's tool - the files can get quite large if you make a large array or rows and columns; many of mine are 8-10mb or so, but they don't show "banding" or the terrible repeat problem many textures create.

Check out the link to ACME's tool above. I use it quite a bit. It makes very good seamless textures and allows you to choose the mortar color, brick color, number of brick rows and columns, type of bond (running, stacked, 1/3, etc.) I use it for soldier courses also. Arched brick? doesn't work since it doesn't have that option. Arched brick would be on my list at the very top!
