Hi Not sure if I am having the same issue. I am happily using a Mac book pro on X15 and lately the cursor is selecting stuff WAAAYYY too far away. It will usually prioritize dimensions over objects so I have to zoom way in to try to get the object selected vs whatever else it is trying to grab. Its like the field of the cursor is way to wide and not referencing the closest object tot the point of the cursor. Am I over looking a setting?

Thanks Ryan! I like to send live pictures and "update on demand" so when I make plan changes I can just click update. But you are right sending the photo to the layout did the trick.

Has anyone had trouble with pixilated camera views in PDF layouts on the M1? I just moved to an M1 from an intel based MacBook and am having trouble with layout clarity in the photos after the layout is sent to PDF. I have not had trouble yet in the layout BEFORE I try to export to PDF and things are working okay in the camera views of the plan. See below. Thanks for the help in advance!

I have this MacBook and run x13 okay. Better than x12 by features. I do not ray trace plane perspective view is more than enough for me. This thread talks about the M1 chip in MBP which I am ordering now for a second and hopefully primary machine.

Dermot. Yes I vote for pocket doors and bifold Aventos HF. We are using both more and more. For cabinet pocket doors we are doing some hidden bars/pantry units that need to have a set of cabinets inside. Would be nice to be nest cabinets "inside" a cabinet and have it show with the pocket doors open and retracted. There would have to be a way to get the pocket cavity to show properly too.

Apple Macbook Pro M1 Max Review Compared to i9 MBP with eGPU
justinorwig replied to designergy's topic in General Q & A
designergy Thanks for giving your input. Happy to see all the apple people in one place To recap you vote yes for x13 on the me MBP with M1? I have 2019 MBP loaded and its okay. Spec is below. X13 running okay after the last update. Really like to speed things up so thinking of ordering a new one. Printing PDF takes a little while especially on 20-30 page layouts with lots of pictures. Most plans are under 60mb. I do not ray trace right now. Only standard perspective views. Only running a 40" tv right now which works well. I am a cabinet and millwork designer so very heavy on cabinets and their components and light on the buildings construction details as I just draw the shell. If you think there is improvement I might pull the trigger. Thanks for your input! -
Chief Architect X13 - Photorealistic ray tracing on a MacBookPro 2020
justinorwig replied to Benny_G's topic in General Q & A
I am having issues with sending layouts to save as PDF where the perspective camera views are not "printing" correctly. In some of the previews it shows correctly but when I save as PDF the images are skewed or half missing. See the picture with the Mac I am running and the image of the pdf issues. Anyone else having this? I just upgraded to X13. I never had this. problem in X12. The cameras work fine for me in the plan. -
I own a design studio in Austin Texas and am looking for a designers and assistants to produce renderings and detailed layouts for custom cabinetry and millwork projects. We work closely with our shop so the designers need to have a high level of understanding of custom cabinetry and millwork construction. We are only looking to work with US based folks and strongly prefer local to Austin TX as some in person availability will be needed for certain projects.

Slow Performance and poor responsiveness in X12
justinorwig replied to justinorwig's topic in General Q & A
Well as of now I guess all of this has failed. Still glitchy even on laptop screen only. I suppose its time to send to the repair man and see if it's hardware. if not machine might be too small? I think we have ruled out file defect as the others have loaded on their units and not found the issue. Tech support finally got back to me and said they tested my file on a similar MacBook and found it to run some what slow. -

Greg this is great info. I'm using thunderbolt 3 to with hdmi on the other end. Not sure if its 4k rated but it was a better one from Office Depot or apple I think not an amazon deal Sometimes I wonder if the Magic Mouse 2 and keyboard are slow to respond. Normally its not an issue but as I type this my mouse keeps disconnecting and re connecting -
Slow Performance and poor responsiveness in X12
justinorwig replied to justinorwig's topic in General Q & A
Hi everyone. Thanks again so much for all the input. I’ve learned a lot! So far I’m wondering if running the 50” 4K tv is just too much for this graphics card. I tried this a while back With poor results but now Again plugged into my 32” lg monitor and it seems to not experience the lag when running that monitor alone. Also tried on my wife’s 2020 Mackbook with the the same specs as mine and it did a little better but struggled when plugged into the tv. Funny on hers it did fine on tv until I filled the screen with CA or went full screen in CA. I guess this points to requiring too much graphics load to go out from my computer? I’m a business guy and designer not a Tech geek so this has all been so irritating. But for real I think I owe you all lunch next time you’re in Austin! Electroment thanks I see you have 32gb and 8gb video. That’s probably what I need. renerabbit I tried to find a way to reinstall video drivers but Apple thinks it can handle that automatically during normal updates and diagnostics. Not as a separate process at least that I can find. I did reset the ram at start up but not sure if that did the trick. I guess the moral of the story is get a way bigger graphics card next time...or soon -
Slow Performance and poor responsiveness in X12

Thanks everyone! I wiped my whole computer and reloaded OS. Then reloaded X12. No improvement. I tried to reduce resolution Johnny. All I can see if scale. I need to make things smaller on the huge screen to utilize the extra space it gives, but is that what puts a higher load on graphics? I don't see a way to reduce output and still get more stuff on the screen (and icons and text not be gigantic) Wondering if this computer just can't handle it? Lots of you seem to use desktops -
Slow Performance and poor responsiveness in X12
justinorwig replied to justinorwig's topic in General Q & A
HI everyone and thanks! I have checked the preferences. I have not been able to find a second place to dictate a particular programs use of graphics card but the main switch it set to always use full graphics even on battery Regarding the textures: I have downloaded the Wood Mode cabinetry catalog from CA and one of the missing textures is a wood laminate from wood mode. I have used it a lot as a textured finish that resembles wire brushed oak pretty well which most of our projects have here or there. Could this texture from that catalog have a glitch? Again tech support didn't have any trouble with that. As for task load: I basically always am using 6-10 of my 16gb ram even when I'm not running anything. CPU is always very low 2-20% usage. I've cleared all caches, don't go to crummy websites, and basically don't have anything else loaded besides apple software besides chief and clean my Mac. Also Quickbooks and epson wifi printer drivers. Literally nothing else. I deleted chrome because I don't want my whole to be tracked (or at least not as much). I also deleted dropbox because it seemed to slow things down and they too wanted to have an open window into my computers soul. Not sure how to eliminate some of these processes. Many of them are "root" and not my user name -
Slow Performance and poor responsiveness in X12

ugh. I'm learning a lot from this! Graphics switching was clicked (to make it switch back and forth). Clicking to stay on all the time didn't solve the glitch though. -

Thanks everyone! At last I guess it’s a hardware thing on my end. I’ll look for driver fix first then might have to wipe and start over cheers! -
Slow Performance and poor responsiveness in X12
justinorwig replied to justinorwig's topic in General Q & A
Thanks renerabbitt. I've thought that must be it. All the stuff I've tried seems to say its all up to date but I think I might just get aggressive and wipe it all and start over. Really appreciate all your help! -
Slow Performance and poor responsiveness in X12
justinorwig replied to justinorwig's topic in General Q & A
If its a driver how can I resolve? I tried a CA template and not sure if its any different. Of course a smaller test plan. I opened a file in X12 I made in X10 and it seems to have the same issue which I don't recall it having then -
Slow Performance and poor responsiveness in X12
justinorwig replied to justinorwig's topic in General Q & A
Thanks renerabbitt. Layers didn't make any change. Drag and drop in plan view is okay. I'm using a 50" Vizio 505 led tvwith "120hz" refresh rate run via thunderbolt. It "might" be a little better run off of laptop alone. Still seems to be intermittent. I use Magic Mouse which has always been great for CA. I have a LG 32" computer monitor that was about the same. Do I need to wipe my hard drive and reinstall the whole computer and X12? -
Slow Performance and poor responsiveness in X12
justinorwig replied to justinorwig's topic in General Q & A
Thanks everyone. I've tried all and Still no luck. And CA tech support can't replicate the problem when I send in various files that have the issue. Looking for that elusive loose bolt Does anyone run eGPU with a matchbook pro? -

Right now I only use stuff from the Chief catalog downloads except for a couple of tile patterns I made from online images. -
Slow Performance and poor responsiveness in X12

Thanks here it is. This has been happening on all of the plans I have made in the last few weeks just can't figure out what changed. I have made my own template to streamline new plans things that generally see the same thing. But its also slow in Chief standard templates. Sylvia_Noha_4.0.plan -
Hi Everyone. I've had a terrible time with performance in x12. I've been on the line with tech support and tried everything they suggest as well as everything I can think of for computer health outside of chief that I can find. I have a 2019 MacBook Pro with 16 gb ram and 4gb graphics card. I don't run any major applications at all other than chief. I use chief, pages, numbers and safari and rarely ever together (safari and chief are really the only two at once). I am seeing tremendous lag in floor camera view which I use a lot to inspect as I go. I am only working on cabinet layouts not full house plans. I have sent the plan files to tech support and they cannot reproduce my issues. I've attached a pdf of the conversation with tech and also a video of whats going on. In addition it takes forever to save PDF layouts and may times chief locks up. I don't know if this is a setting issue or hardware issue I really appreciate any insight! Chief Architect Support.pdf

wow.... That was way too easy. I was sure it had to be more complex! Thanks! alaskan_sun!

Hello everyone. This seems like a very simple task so I'm sure I have just overlooked but can't find an answer. How can we export a cabinet schedule to an excel or numbers spreadsheet? I want to be able to work with the schedules apart from chief. I present the schedules in the layouts for clients but want to have internal use columns that can be shared around the office and not updated on the client layout plan. I'm using X12 on Mac Thanks!
