  1. If I'm understanding you correctly, you have a few items in a template you'd like to create a standard for?

Firstly you could save your plan file as your template, so when you hit 'new plan' it automatically loads up your template.

    image.thumb.png.99217ae58ec945b93cbaa1e5ec2a6674.png

Save As template, I believe, will also ask if you'd like to make it your default.  If not you can adjust this in your preferences.

    Edit>Preferences>General>New Plans

Second  If you have a plan that holds all your CAD details, why not block them together, then 'add to library'.  You can create a subfolder in your 'custom user catalog' to house them, meaning they will be available to you without you having to first open your 'CAD detail plan file' each time.

I hope I answered your question correctly.

  2. I've reached out to @ChiefArchitectabout this, but I'm eager for your input or guidance.

I personally would love a way to copy an object and paste it in my plan multiple times without having to copy the object again or repeated hot key entries.

For example. I know you can press CTRL+V to paste and object and I can hold CTRL and press press V click your mouse to place the object and while continuing to hold CTRL I can press V again to allow for another paste, however. What if Chief made it possible for me to hold press CTRL+V together and while holding both keys down allow me to click with my mouse over and over and over again pasting with each click until I let go of the hot keys.

Some of my designers use room tags to eliminate the need for notes on their plans. Allowing me to copy a tag and multiple copy it into all the room on a floor for example by just clicking in those rooms while holding CTRL+V would make things a lot easier.

  3. You can also achieve this by turning the railing for the stairs off, then drawing in your railings custom using the railing tool (turn on option to follow stairs)

    image.thumb.png.94c705a04ae436dce251debca2f54113.png

This was drawn with one set of stairs, and four railings.

What is your sample rate at? What are your encoder settings for the recording software?

I was using ScreenPal formally Screen-o-matic.  It's the strange thing.  I don't have any issues normally but since I tried recording a video while running Chief architect my fans react quicker and louder.

I ended up deleting the app and using windows snipping tool to record my screen (works very much the same) and the fans do come on, but not at super speeds like Screenpal and I was able to record a 30 min video without my pc crashing.  Temps all stayed low too and by CPU was running in overclock (not forced).  All systems seem to be working fine NOT using Screenpal.

All the issues came about after a recent update to Screenpal.  They are unsure what would be causing the issues, but acknowledge that it does use CPU an GPU resources.

  5. Gotcha.  Is it possible for a power supply to fail?  I've had this PC for about 2.5 years with zero issues thus far, but did have to change out the water cooler a few month back.  I've been told I may want to see if the thermal paste is failing/ needs reapplied.  I'm a noob when it comes to PC builds.

I don't want the picture to just look nice, I want it to look realistic. Cranking up exposure will just wash out the lit areas above. My problem in this picture is the light intensity which falls off too quickly to be realistic (unless we're shooting these pictures underwater).

Can you share your plan file with us?  It might be easier to sort out what the issue is.

I think your issue is your drop off rate - which is causing the harsh shadow against the wall.  Below is what the light looks like as a spot light with a 'zero' drop off rate (12" between lights") - which is what I think you meant to say when you said lights are 'point' lights.

  7. I don't know much about custom graphic settings, I just recently started looking into them - but does anyone have a custom set up for Chief?

I'm asking because I'm noticing my RTX3080 is maxing out it's GPU when I run PBRs in Chief.  Using another program at the same time to record my screen while the render is working causes my PC to shut down - even though the GPU temp doesn't go above 60 degrees Celsius.

Moving forward I'll stop the video recording before I enter into a PBR; but I has me curious if there is a way to adjust my graphic settings to keep the PC from freaking out.

    Thanks!

    Hi all,

Using Premier X15 with Windows 11 Pro. When using the Material Painter, Windows focus will no longer change from the Materials window to the 3D Camera view. In other words, I have to close the Materials window to use the Material Painter.  No success doing the following:

    - Repair CA install

    - Repair Windows install

    - Reverting to much older CA plan databases

Apologies if this post is redundant.

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Hey Mark.

    Is your X15 current/ updated?

Is your graphics cards up to date?

  9. A while back I had to build custom 'sails' for a similar project.  I'm not sure it will work for your application, but here is what I did:

The 'elevation' data would obviously be pertinent to what you're working with, I just chose random numbers for this example.

Once the object is imported the shape can't be changed.  The size can, but not the shape.  You can then paint it a fabric texture if you'd like.

  10. @TCB_BdnMY

I'm not sure if you received an answer yet, but I downloaded your file and quickly realized your roof plan does not touch the wall - thus Chief doesn't know you need an attic wall where you would like one.

    image.thumb.png.abc7f2a02a3a44b7d128c31b00a7dc8f.png

when I move the plane up against the wall - the attic populates as it should:

  11. Seems like an issue for sure - turning off the sun makes the glow go away in the second scenario...

If you want/ need the sun on, here is my setup for rendering that I think can help.

Your rendering global illumination daytime backdrop intensity is really high for an interior view. (10,000).  There is no real need for it to be this high.

Try this on your actual model instead and see if it helps.

When I import a sketchup file I made from the manufacturer of a window it ends up outside the envelope of the wall. Any ideas on how to align this better with the wall?

    Screen Shot 2020-03-28 at 11.29.51 AM.png

I believe your issue is with the Sketch up model you've imported.  I am going to guess that when you imported the object it was 'laying down' in the 3D view Dialog box in Chief.

    image.thumb.png.fd8167121329c4cd0b44769c3ad5551a.png

I choose a Marvin window at random and imported it as is (without adjusting in Sketchup first) and as you can see from the window came in oriented incorrectly and Chief thinks the 'height' is only 5 29/32".  Even if I orient the window correctly it still thinks the window is only 5 29/32" high.

To fix this you have to open the 'opening' tab, and change the height of the box you see to the correct height of the window.  In my case it's 25 1/16"  Keep in mind - this window was imported w/ a frame (not ideal) so the height will also include the frame as well.  You may have to play around with the 'opening size' in order to get it correct.  I've actually noticed Chief will not keep the opening height correction you've made if you try to adjust it before the import is complete.  So you may want to finish importing - then adjust the opening in the model.

    image.thumb.png.784cca5f33771ab4e42f53d50be8b0da.png

    image.thumb.png.3aeab60884f34e0cd3102d3db510235a.png

    image.thumb.png.387cd7b0e32b5afa8f3547305816c7ee.png

As you can see - although we've oriented the window correctly now and adjusted the opening it's hanging off the wall.  To correct this you have to open the symbol up and give it a "Y" origin offset:

    image.thumb.png.7cf5c47564867d4dcf2ea7290fb7ad23.png

    image.thumb.png.e4e6cdb4db83e669029ab1776db189c6.png

You probably noticed the window depth is wonky - I have not found a solution to this and attribute it to the original issue with the model.  The same is true for the window plan view offset.  Unfortunately I don't see any options on how to modify the 'block' like you can with other imported objects.

So... is there a better way?  Yes. There are two options.

If you don't have sketchup, You could import the window as a random fixture adjusting the windows orientation.  in this example I imported the window as a 'fixture or any other object really'

    image.thumb.png.3ffbd48000e479b9cf7c464739fc7b5f.png

Once it's imported (no need to add to library) go to a 3D view to see the object.  Then go to 'file>export>export 3D' (doesn't matter which one)

Now - reimport the object you just exported and select Window.  The window will now import oriented correctly.  You'll need to adjust the 'Y' offset again, but the window will now have the correct sizing & opening size.  Again - keep in mind if the window has a casing, the size of opening will match the window's casing.

    image.thumb.png.a9b5a04c52b9286593e6d8590fc4a5c2.png

    Option 2:
My preferred method and probably the easiest.

Go ahead and import your object like we did in option 1, only this time select 'fixture exterior' or any object that allows you to 'hang on wall'.  Once imported open 'option's and select 'inserts into wall' and give it a depth.  You can adjust this later.

    image.thumb.png.66c89a0b81ec71f1cbec2cf8292a5feb.png

Click OK and now the window can be placed on the wall.  It will have a cut out for the exterior but not the interior (unfortunately).  To fix this you'll need to add a wall 'pass thru' and shape it to the size of your window.

That being said It's clear this feature needs fixing by @ChiefArchitect so let's hope they have a fix for us in X16

  13. Strange.  The only way I could replicate your issue was to build a room behind the toilet add a window and have the light from the sun hit the back wall directly where the toilet is.

Try turning off the sun, or rotating the direction of the sun.

    With Window in room behind:

  14. Hey Experts.

Before I reach out to @ChiefArchitect about this, I though I might try here first.

I have a client who wants me to show a specific scenario on floor plan where I extend the stile on a cabinet, but the drawer face covers it.  I've accomplished this task, but I want to show this particular drawer open so the client can see what we are proposing.  Doing so though makes the drawer open in my elevations as well.  Does anyone have a way to show it open on floor plan and closed in elevation - without drawing the lines myself?

    Thanks
