Hmm. That def. helps. Thank you.
The issue is happening because I changed the thickness of the countertop but didn't adjust the height of the cabinet to accommodate. -
My normal template the base cabinet reads B45 for example. For some reason in a new plan it's reading (B4536) I assume it's now showing the height - I don't understand how/ why it changed - does anyone know how to change it back to only read B45.
I checked both plans and nothing shows up differently in either dialog box - neither show a 'custom label'
Thanks -
I though it had something to do with my furred walls around the perimeter. Whenever I would turn one particular wall to a 'furred wall' I could turn on at least 8 lights with the camera that wouldn't allow any... however - through process of elimination - I discovered an object I imported into Chief from the 3Dwarehouse (a treadmill) was the culprit. I'm not entirely sure why. I sent it off to the support team for clarity... but removing the treadmill fixed the issue.
Strangely though, I opened the same treadmill fil in Sketchup. Saved it down to an earlier version (2016) and reimported it into Chief and it isn't causing any issues. -
I'm not entirely sure what's happening. Normally when I use Chief I max out my lighting to like 8000 just to be sure all the lights are on; but for my recent basement plan turning on more than 20 - causes them all to go off.
Does anyone have any incite into why this is happening? -

@MarkMc posted a plan in another thread about this topic, but there was no explanation about how things get done. Here is the plan he posted, but with the addition of a dishwasher symbol I made by importing a Sketchup model of a GE Monogram one at 18" width.
In Mark's plan, he has a cabinet in which is a DW, one from the Chief manufacturer bonus library. The cabinet has no sides, no back, no fronts, no toekick, no nothing. It is just blank space with a countertop over. If I try to make such a cabinet, I fail. Going to the fronts section of the cab spec, I delete everything. Separations, door, drawerfront. I specify the cab as framed just as Mark has it. I specify the stiles as 0". I cannot get the cab to build blank, but always end up with a back and sides.
I want a "cabinet" that is blank like Mark's but has the 18" width needed for this Monogram DW. What do I do?
I haven't opened the zip file, but have you tried selecting 'filler' in the general options of the cabinet.
This should turn off everything except the front -

Specifically with Kohler, you should download the 3D file directly from them. It will come in with separated materials so you can adjust them yourself in chief. Nearly everything Kohler offers is available as a 3D model on their website in various forms.
As @Renerabbittmentioned Blender is a great option too - and it's free. Bit of a learning curve to it though. -
Oh boy. Learning Macros has my head spinning. I feel it's the next step in my evolution with Chief Architect, but I have having a difficult time following the tutorial. Does anyone have any recommendations on resources that might help?
For context, my goal is to try and build a Light and Vent Calculator that when placed in a room formulates the information I need. I've utilized ChatGPT and it has gotten really close, but sadly can't pull the sq. footages from the windows 'associated' with the room resulting in a '0.0%' return. I'm trying to delve deeper into how Chief populates information - but so far I haven't discovered how I can relay the information from the windows in a room to my code.
I've reached out to Chief for more insight, but any guidance from the community might help. -

Hi All!
While updating my 3D Library, I noticed that Chief is charging me for the following download, even though I have SSA. Is this a new policy they’ve implemented?
3D Plants - Annuals $3.99
3D Plants - Bulbs $3.99
3D Plants - Climbers $5.99
3D Plants - Edible Garden $9.99
3D Plants - Perennials $9.99
3D Plants - Shrubs $9.99
3D Plants - Trees $7.99
Specialty/Other/Misc - Crime Scene and Fire Investigation $19.99
Specialty/Other/Misc - Medical/Dental $19.99
The Crime Scene and Fire investigation and Medical/Dental isn't free and never has been; not entirely sure why because you find nearly everything on Google's 3Dwarehouse - but you're right. I just checked and the 3D plans aren't free anymore. Chief must made a change. They should probably address this - because WTF. -

Sounds like you simply want crown to go around the ceiling of the room and connect with the closet crown? If so:
1. Remove crown from your cabinets. Easier to get everything to line up if you remove the crown you attached through your cabinet dialog box.
2. In plan view draw a CAD line (find it on top tool bar under CAD / lines / draw line) around the section of ceiling and cabinet where you want to add crown.
3. Click on the CAD line you just drew and use a tool found on the lower tool bar called "convert polyline". This tool looks like a little wand on top of a yellow square.
4. Dialog box opens. Select 3d polyline molding polyline. Click Ok.
5. Click on "moldings" (found on left side of dialog box).
6. Select a crown you'd like to use by clicking on "replace" (found on the right side of this dialog box). I've shown the crown in "blue" on attached rendering.
7. Crown will come into the dialog box and now you can decide how high it should be placed by clicking on "vertical offset". If your ceiling is 96", then put 96" into "vertical offset".
8. In plan view you can make adjustments if necessary.
If you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask. There are several ways to create the crown, I just find this to be the easiest for me.
Actually you don't have to remove the crown from the cabinets if it's the type of crown you'd like to see around the room as well as on top of the cabinets.
While selecting your wall cabinets click on "Make cabinet molding polyline". Once the prompt opens choose the molding that is on the cabinet you also want to show in the room. This will convert the molding on the cabinet to a poly molding similar to what your recommended above - it will keep it's height from floor properties and allow you to modify the shape as you see fit. -
Are you using live cameras to your layout? I've run into a issues in the past with performance when my users send active cameras to the layout; but nothing like this. Personally, I would rather send a static image to the layout. You should give running your view, exporting the image and then bring that image into your layout a try.

What version of Chief are you using? This was a common problem in X15 but resolved in X16. It has something to do with the bounding box - I believe.

Once you've build the column you can then 'convert it to symbol' and use it later. This allows you to resize it with ease, but also by adding it as a symbol (millwork) you can use it as a post for railings. -
We had issues with updating catalogs once upon a time - We had to delete the catalog then reinstall it fresh. I assume it was some kind of communication error in Chief with the website.
Are you trying to download directly through Chief architect or through the website? -
I've submitted this to Chief directly, but one tool I'd like to see in X17 is the lasso tool. In this specific example a way to grab specific items that may be on a diagonal while not grabbing everything that gets included with box grab.
For example - I have a home where the office is on a diagonal to the rest of the home and the client wants to see the furniture (that is not blocked together) at a different angle. Grabbing it by holding the shift key only allows for box selection which would grab everything the box. The lasso tool - much like the lasso tool we have for material lists would allow us to be specific with what we grab. -

Hi
How can I easily( joking!!!!) create various terrain areas,, such as what is attached. I've tried but the stalagmites go off the grade. I've done walkout basements before but for some reason this one seems to allude me. is it just me trying too many times with the same results
any suggestions welcome
Levina
I think the way I @DBCooperdoes it is similar to how I do. I use the box region and mark them 'flat interior' in the areas I need the terrain to slope. For example, the box at the front door of a home might be 0" elevations (flat interior) but the back of the home is a walk-out basement; that box might be -96" (flat interior) -

Apologies if this has been answered numerous times before...
If I were to upgrade to Chief Architect Premier annual subscription, but then feel a year down the line that its not worth the money, is it possible to cancel the subscription and revert back to the previous x12 version which of course does not require further payment?
Thanks
Like @DBCooperstated. Yes, you can start and stop your subscription as you see fit. Opening and saving a file in X16 for example will make that file inaccessible to anything X15 and older (including X12)... additionally anything you draw in a newer version can't be access if you don't have an active subscription. Meaning, if you upgrade to X16 and use it for a year under an active subscription, then cancel - your can no longer open X16 or any files associated with it. -
Thanks Ben, what I was able to do was tell the walls around the fireplace to be 'no room locate'. This then allowed me to pull the tray up against the fireplace to get the look I was hoping for. It's a work around - be it not really correct, but it shows up the way I need it to. Your support team is going to share this with the developers. Hoping for a nice fix in the future
Thanks! -
@ChiefArchitect- I've already submitted this feedback to you with Tech support.
I think we can all agree that the soffit function in Chief isn't cutting it anymore. It is too limited with it's shaping (rectangles only) and does not provide framing. Tray ceilings however allow us to create framed objects inside the room and also give us the option for two different finishes (face and bottom). Personally, I need the soffit function to mimic the tray function - or; the tray function needs some work.
For example - if we need a tray around the room, but there is a fireplace that sits flush with a portion of the trays face (Arrow in photo) - we need to be able to 'void' this area stopping the tray from building any framing and from getting 'confused' and voiding the entire build altogether. Something like the molding feature where we can break the molding and tell it not have molding on that particular portion.

Has anyone had any issues with the upgrade to X16 causing standard renderings to look washed out? I tried lowering the lumens on all the recessed lights and that didn't help. Initially, only some of the lights were on (not washed out, but missing lights), so I went into default settings for the camera view, and changed it from "max lights" to "Light set - default light set". Now all the lights are on, but it looks like a photo with an exposure that is way too high. We do demo renderings live with clients, so I need to easily pull new camera views and not go thorugh a bunch of settings every time to adjust the lights. All the setting from X15 have been copied over to X16 and I never had this issue before. Help!
When doing a PBR; Check your Daytime Backdrop intensity. For interiors I change mine to 500, but for exterior views you may want to go with 35,000 - 40,000

Did we change how Dishwashers work? Chief is no longer allowing me to place it 'in a cabinet'. However I did notice that placing the dishwasher next to a cabinet extends the countertop across it without issue.
I'm OK with this change if this is normal. Is this a feature we can duplicate if we import objects as well?
