Brian,
Thanks for the reply. Here is another example that may illustrate my problem clearer. In the past I have been able to print a grayscale floor plan and a logo in color.
Now when the plan is printed (saved as .pdf) the logo prints out in grayscale - unless "print in color" is selected in the .dbx...but selecting that, as you mentioned, prints everything in color.
I've included a screenshot of the print dbx, as well. Strange, the preview shows the logo in color, but the output file is all grayscale.
I cleared the printer info, but there was no change.
It seems like I always had to have print in color turned on to get gray scale as well as color. If I didn't have print in color on I wouldn't get the gray scale.
If you do 'print in color' does the gray scale print in anything other than the gray it's supposed to?

I did get it resolved but don't really know exactly how. I just keep clicking boxes until it looks the way I want it to.

I have been working with CA since version 8 and still consider myself a newbie. I just haven't been using the program correctly until now. Seems like I'm always learning things the hard way.

Thanks again Jim. I'll (try and)remember that.

The room defaults overpower the floor defaults
Burned in my brain - Thanks Perry.

Thank you so much for taking your time Jim.
I see what you're saying and it fixes it and so it seems if you have monolithic slab foundation checked but no foundation built you can change floor heights? Also I have a combination of stem wall and slab, is that the issue?
This is actually new to me. I just created a new simple plan and it seems to act differently.

I don't even know what points are or why I would want them.
I posted the question last night then discovered the answer and posted that to let people know it was answered. Then I really wanted to delete the entire post because of my continued embarrassment of not knowing a thing about Chief after 15 years of using it. I was able to delete the post that said I had answered it but couldn't delete the original post so I re-posted the answer again. Maybe the forum software sees the 2nd post and claims this is the best answer? Don't know. Don't care. You can have all my points.

...in the structure dbx. Could have sworn I just set negative floor heights in another plan but this one has the floor height dbx grayed out. Stumped again by the structure dbx,

Found it in Room Material Default

It seems like I'm setting up my default floor structure but the defaults don't default.

Thanks as always Scott but in this case I want a dark filled railing in plan view (that's my new wall notation) and can only get the white fill as you show. No big deal in this case but I agree there should be more flexibility for the plan view of railing walls.
-
Thanks Robert, Tried every which way and apparently they don't show a fill. I just used a p-line solid, pretty quick. Appreciate the reply.

... in plan view? I have a dark fill I use for new walls and have never had new railing walls to try and fill. They seem to appear with white fill no matter the settings. True?

VERY interested in your experiences Michael.

Some nice changes in there. Nice work CA. Appreciate the hard work.

Excellent Dermot. Don't know if the update improves speed yet but the fact you are on it is impressive. Thank you for all the hard work you guys/gals do.

VERY helpful Jim. Took me 10 minutes to figure out you double click on the foot print to display the dbx.
Amazing how helpful that video was. Never really bothered to learn this feature in Chief. I think the combo of the Anno Sets controlling the Plot Plan Set, relayed to the plan foot print display may be the best bet, for me. Still experimenting.\ but thanks so much for taking the time.

Here's some strange behavior (or not) with the plan foot print tool.
-
Didn't think about re-orienting the entire plan to change site plan orientation. I've got both methods set up to go so I can choose between methods and see what's going to stick.
-
Thanks Graeme, leaning that way myself - no problems/downside that I can see - yet.

Using a CAD detail will let you use the Plan Footprint. Personally, I find it's easier to do a 2D site plan, with the surveyor's DWG, in a separate window, and be able to easily drag the house around, rather than moving everything else to match the house.
Good point Richard and have always done the same thing with the plan footprint in 2D. Haven't really tried using Anno Sets yet but am modifying a Layout now to see how it works for me. I'n thinking out loud that once the PL is created it too could be moved around to fit the walls of the plan and can't readily see a downside to using Anno Sets. Thanks for the feedback

I've always set up a separate CAD detail for my site plan but can't remember why I don't just use the main Plan file with a separate Anno/Layer Set for the site plan.
What do use all use for the site plan? CAD detail? Layer Set? Advantages?

Saw your reply in this thread Perry. Thank you. Appreciate you taking the time

Ah I see. I have actual gray walls and they showed gray in your screen shots so didn't realize you had colored walls i.e. blue yellow. Hope you get it fixed.
