  1. I thought I'd share this discovery. Since I design a lot of kitchens and often use soffits, floating or otherwise, to compress spaces, I've always had issues placing recessed lights in custom soffits, e.g.: polyline solids that I've designated as soffits. The recessed cans always conform to the pitch of the roof in a vaulted (cathedral) ceiling, which looks terrible in a rendering, and bizarre in elevation. Chief is smart enough to place cans properly when using cabinet soffits, but not in polyline solids for good reason.

If you add a custom ceiling plane at the same height as the bottom of the soffit with zero pitch, the recessed cans conform to that pitch. You can then turn off the ceiling plane layers in any views since you won't need to see them.

  2. I suspect it's user error, but I can't find it. Any ideas as to why my callout numbering is upside down? I thought perhaps I'd rotated the plan, but that doesn't seem to make a difference. In fact, when I attempt to rotate the plan it doesn't rotate.

  3. Here's what I ended up with. The front elevation didn't convert the white-out, but I whited out the top-hinge opening indicators on the the upper door sections and drew in my own showing a center hinge. And showed a side view.  Thanks for all the suggestions.

  4. It's nice that we no longer have to manually draw opening indicators for top-hinged doors. But I'm having a hard time with the attached. How would something like this be displayed in elevation, both front and side? Also, how to specify that the cabinet hits the ceiling so the door must stop before hitting? Any help would be appreciated!
