  1. I have never used the hall railing. I will play with that thanks
  2. Well after ready all your posts and suggestions I worked out to this. It looks good, boss is happy!
  3. First of all, I SUCK at steps! Straight steps maybe a single landing, no problem. But this one has me very frustrated. Back story: I draw for the largest homebuilder in Tennessee. I work with Autocad primarily. Somehow I got nominated to take all our plans that were only drawn in 2d and build 3d models of them. We got chief Architect ( because I opened my big mouth and said I was learning to use it on the side) so that said I am by definition an amateur. But I am fooling most of them around here. (See interior and exterior pics of one of 50 house I get to build and furnish for renderings for marketing uses) I added to show what I have been able to accomplish. Also,I added a picture of the steps with notes of my dilemma and the actual Plan.file 2700 that is my new headache. Any suggestions or a quick fix would be helpful. Thanks and I hope everyone's M-Day was awesome! 2700_C-A.plan
  4. How do I turn on baseboard molding on the stair landing? I have always noticed when I build interior stairs that any form of landing there is no base molding on the landin.
  5. Can we change mortar colors on any brick material? If so how?
  6. I can't seem to get the two landing steps (winder steps) to show the stringers I also want the railing to connect around the 45degree corner. I followed the chief video on how to create the angled turn of steps with the option of manually placing two landing steps to go around the turn. That seemed to be the best option in my situation. but this is what I end up with. .
  7. Hello everyone! This one is an odd request so I will try my best to explain. I have a project I am working on and I would like to illustrate I would like to show a connecting part that stays in a solid color but placed in its proper position inside another part that is in a wireframe. In other words, I want to see the part inside another part so as to demonstrate how it fits. Am I making sense? Both parts were designed in Sketchup.
  8. Ok I fixed it but just dragging the drywall up or down to close in the sides which worked.(still don't know where my framing is) but in this next pic it shows the white ceiling wrapping up the floor. This I can't get rid of. Totally confused as to why this happens to me.
  9. Hello, I consistently run into this issue. Notice my second floor is open to the stairwell. I used the open floor platform From second-floor working plan view....I also put an invisible wall at top of steps first so I can delete base molding before opening the floor or installing stairs. This always happens to me. Went back and repeated this process from first floor by using open ceiling platform... The same thing happens. Then I went and check to make sure all floor framing is on. It still shows zero framing! As a matter of fact, I turned all framing on and I have no framing showing up from ground-up which is weird. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I can delete the steps and it has no effect on this so I know the steps are irrelevant. Help please
  10. ok I see it. I was able to use the tool and select all floors and window around what needs to move but I froze because...how do I tell chief to move 5ft in a specified direction?
  11. Hello, Is there a way to stretch a plan. I have a two-level house and I need to stretch both floors 5ft in one direction. Not sure how to approach this task. would like to do both floors at the same time so I don't have to go back and fix things. I'm used to windowing around objects in AutoCad and just stretching it. I can't find anything like this in Chief which is supprising. Any advice would be great on how this is done. I have attached the plan so you can see what I'm dealing with. In the plan on the main level floor plan view, you will see a line I drew through the house from front to back. (its in the living area by the garage. I need the house stretched 5ft making the living and loft above wider towards the garage. Garage and everything above the garage can't change just moved over along with the stretching. How do I do this? stretched plan.plan stretched plan.plan
  12. Hello, Is there a way to adjust the drawing sheet background color in plan view while I'm working? I noticed a drawing sheet icon off to the side and clicked it and the color went from white to grey but I want to adjust it to black and set the dims and text colors to a different color as well. Got a headache and this bright white screen is killing my brain...
  13. "You can build these automatically.Designate the 2 end walls as Gable. DoneOn the wall's Roof tab, tick "Upper Pitch".DoneFill in the "Starts at Height" (or "In From Baseline") and Pitch. To what? they are already filled in and it does not matter what I enter I get no roof changeAuto build roof. This option is not available while in this roof tab window. I see auto-build return but that is not what I need. Tried it already
  14. Not sure what I'm doing here. There is no auto build roof option while I am in the wall roof tab checking the "upper pitch" and adjusting anything in said roof tab box. I tried to set it up the way I assumed it is supposed to then exit this tab and auto build roofs but that changed every roof on the house so that was not right. When I edit a wall and click roof tab I see upper pitch and lower pitch?, I also see the "starts at height" and "from the baseline" settings but I have entered many different figures in all of these boxes and nothing changes. I am sorry but I do not understand what I am doing here, unfortunately.
  15. Hello, I am having difficulties creating this roof. I read a post addressing this issue and according to the responses its "easy as pie"....Not for me! As you can see I can get it to this point building it myself. I read a post that says it can automatically build, quote below. My "upper Pitch box is checked so I'm not sure what these instructions are telling me.2581 H-F.plan "You can build these automatically.Designate the 2 end walls as Gable. On the wall's Roof tab, tick "Upper Pitch".Fill in the "Starts at Height" (or "In From Baseline") and Pitch.Auto build roof. 2581 H-F.plan
  16. Thanks, I was able to fix this by pulling the gable roof forward about 1". It seemed to work. Not sure what you mean by "Baseline" and "main layer" in your instructions. I will study what this means....
  17. Hello, I need advice or help with this plan attached. Probably a very quick fix but I keep getting weird results. I will need to do this periodically so if you are able to fix this and explain to me step by step how you did it that would be awesome. The problem I keep running into is the gable I am trying to create here(which should be easy as pie because I have done way more complicated roofs than this) well every time I try to do this exact thing with two different roof pitches coming together at a corner @facia/gutter, it will never make the boxed eave correctly on both sides. I have the boxed eave box selected(may have turned it back off in this plan.) but it will not work. Any help would be very appreciated and MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL! Thanks 2581 H-D.plan
