  1. Ok DzinEye. Exploded it and checked 'lower wall split by butting roof'. Now dormer and interior walls look good. But lower wall split not having effect on attic side of wall.
  2. Ok I did view CA/Scott video #10211. I think I see what you all are saying in my head now. In my example: I do not need detail for demo framing on as-built windows as example. But I do for new remodel plan. So just draw and use the details specifically needed out of that plan/ ("relationally") framing for new faux window and new resized window and the corresponding framing for their placement.
  3. Still searching for more insights to what DAVIDJPOTTER says: ...relationally correct "as built" plan file and then "save as" a copy of it for versions of additions and renovations. Does this mean framing should also be built out in as-built plan so remodel plan can show changes and new material more accurately? Simple example- Kitchen getting new cabinets on existing floor plan. But one window on exterior wall will be filled in as faux window and another exterior wall window will change in size.
  4. Having issue with auto dormer cheek wall laying into attic wall and roof correctly. I viewed and liked SNESTOR and solver advice on other similar issues, but not able to apply to this one yet. Any movement of attic wall or auto dormer produces unconnected wall errors or dormer cannot find back wall error. I can post plan but attachments my suffice?
  5. solver Solution applied: Looks fixed now. I watched solver video and took notes of his plan dbx specs. I found floor material region he referenced was easy to apply. ( pg. 749 -CA X12 Reference Manual) I've got 5 of these transom mulled units in interior walls, 2 exterior wall door mulled transom units and 5 exterior wall window mulled transom units. I think using this solution this keeps me out of trouble for any possible future changes in the plan. In my first attempt I saw baseboard trim didn't fit against casing. It does now. Pics below.
  6. I realized I missed responding to SNestor question- Changed your brick walls...I didn't see a need for a pony wall...maybe I missed something? I was attempting a soldier brick course on top brick walls. Thought I saw one example using pony wall to achieve the effect. But now that roof is fixed I will try again. I will check SNestor and solver videos to see better example of this. Now that roof is fixed I will be posting issue for dormers that is difficult for me.

  8. Thanks Eric. I'll get back to the design later today and will apply your suggestion and post a reply. I have not tried degrees yet. I am pretty certain room heights are correct and need to stay as designed.

  10. Appreciate any advice on fixing hip roof issues. House is rectangular with hip roof. Issues: 1. Using Build- roof for hip style roof ridge board is too short. Shows to be about 5' long. Ridge board is approx. 15' 1/2" long. Pitch used was 1:8. 2. Actual measurements using laser level inside attic show approx. 36 degrees on long side and approx. 31.4 degrees on shorter side. I assume that translates to 1:9 long side and 1:8 shorter side. This creates gap between roof planes. Plan is attached.
  11. I also have had same issue. I tried solver solution and applying it seems to have fixed several design flaws in my design for multiple transom topped doorways. I watched solver YOUTube video to apply it. If I understand the solution correctly, I need to create the material (polyline solid or thin slab object) to go on top of sill to fill in the area and then make it match a floor material on either side of doorway or define it as same material if matching floor types on each side.
  12. Issue in X12 when using break tool to adjust wall for an extension over a column. Bare wall end fir stud and overhead framing stud can be seen in wall section instead of drywall. See attached file/pic. I do not believe soffit is viable solution as I am seeing that soffits will not frame.   13. Ah! Looks so simple now. I believe I see differences in walls (pony/divider+default wall type ) to make the solution. And looks like they both frame out as needed even better than one wall broken up. I will make separate thread and reference your solution. FYI: I will also post thread for a second floor dormer walls soon. Beaucoup Thanks.

  16. OK Maybe I fixed it by applying Reference Number: KB-00194 Changing the Direction of a Material's Pattern and Texture cause it looks good now like SNestor's picture. KB-00194 also explains rendering views of vector and standard. In Define Material DBX I adjusted texture angle to 180 degrees, adjusted Scale and checked Retain Aspect Ratio to get what looked to be accurate results for a brick course Texture. Live & Learn. Day by Day.

  18. Thanks Steve. I'll try those methods. Also, I counted 14 bricks in your sill. Looks like this is a constraint in Molding Specification DBX for an increase in window size. For instance, double the window width size and sill soldier count count stays at 14 soldier bricks. But this is not technically or esthetically correct as quantity of bricks should increase relative to width of window. Say 28 bricks for doubling window width from 35" to 70". Also, does not change if windows are doubled and then mulled into a single unit.
  19. Would appreciate some guidance here for creating a brick soldier course at top of exterior brick wall for as-built in Premier X12. I was advised I could do it by a wall cap or frieze. But I have not been able to create it that way. KB-00796 does not provides any guidance for this application/design type object in my experience. But could be my errors. Plan is attached to view current progress and the wall. My experience and observations of applying KB-00797 in attached file: Applied window lintel on large window and window lintel and the sill on small window via Window dbx in camera views. Working Plan view had to be utilized for the customized sill (architectural block) on the large window. KB-00796 works in this regards. *Note that my brick color needed and chosen was from CA library (Red Used Mixed Brick or Red Used Mixed Course Brick). This object looks good on the wall but does not visually transfer correctly to lintel or sill depending on use of brick object as a polyline solid molding or as an architectural block. Bricks also will stretch or will not display correctly for my needs depending on which one is applied using this objects pattern and texture. Part 1- results in the brick as polyline solid for a brick and mortar object. Hard to decipher what polyline solid dbx input for thickness and height and elevations would be if a different CA library brick was chosen that was closer to actual brick dimensions is applied, i.e. brick in as-built is actually (per ASTM "Face brick (“house brick”) dimensions" ) 8" length(long?) x 2 1/4" height(high?) x 4" width(wide?). Hard to tell sometimes which meaning CA is applying to height and length or width in dbx. Part 2- results in brick soldier course created as molding to be applied to surround a window top and sides. Like a tiled design. Small window in pic. Part 3- results in brick as angled sill as an architectural block object. Works as a molding in small window, but may need to adjust size to look better and prevent gap at bottom. Caveat for large window- unless exploded and customized as architectural block object as shown in large window the brick molding type object stretched and looked incorrect. Also cannot get color pattern and texture to display correctly as architectural block. Part 4- a work in progress on the arched course as I also need that one for one window.   20. This my be another example of extended monitor conflict with CA X12 when laptop pc is also running Nahimic apps. I had system lockups when opening specs to make changes. I uninstalled Nahimic and so far no more issues.
  21. I have not applied all of the solutions in Support article KB-00797- Creating a Soldier Course, but this may also help anyone on brick ledges or arches. I did apply the first one " To create a basic brick with mortar". It worked. I believe that Chief support assumes that you know that these instructions are in 2D mode for Steps 1-6. You must view in 3D mode in Step 7 to see resulting brick you just created.
  22. Premier X12 / Windows 10 operating system I did not see comments on the brick sill issue since March 2019. I am rookie on CA. But looks to me like X12 fixed the issue of a gap from boundary lines when applying the moulding poly line object as a brick. Program will place brick molding nicely in the brick wall. I had easy time with the task for brick sill by following SNestor video. Stacked molding with filler may still be good advice though to make area under sill appear more realistic and look like mortar instead of cut bricks. Bricks in this picture are old "standard" brick trimmed to be a 4" Length maintaining 2 1/8 " Height / 3 3/4" bed depth. Of course, make the bricks in the sill be a course. (No pun intended.) Q rephrased.- How to create a “Building Pad Elevation” that is 36 in. above the sites flat terrain? This shows what, why and how of terrain: qthelp://chiefarchitect.com.chiefarchitect.full.x11/doc/eq3587445.htm Follow link in Chief's help to see how to use Terrain tools- "Raised Region tool creates a raised area with a top surface that is flattened like a plateau but follows the surface of the terrain. Terrain> Build Terrain to generate the terrain surface based on the provided elevation data. Build Terrain also updates the Building Pad Elevation value in the Terrain Specification dialog." Now set walls on top of this or draw the raised region so it encompasses the existing floor plan if already drawn. This appears to have worked, so this will close out my open issue/question.   24. Thanks folks. I'll study and attempt those recommendations. I am still coming up to speed on the program. Learning the terminology and skills. I am enjoying it all though. From this novices perspective we have very intuitive features and tools in Chief Architect Premiere X11 as compared to other OTS programs. I am drawing all based on existing as built 20 year old home to ensure my planned kitchen & bath remodel (and any future adds/changes) captures the unique architecture of the home.
  25. Homes in this mostly flat landscape of Louisiana are concrete slab on top of a raised earth pad that is a Code required maximum 36 inch height from 0' grade. What is the best approach in Chief Architect X11 to draw the 1 & 1/2 story Acadian style homes elevated slab foundation that features front and back full length porches extending off the pad? The porch support posts are sitting on square brick piers 8 feet from the pad.
