Sorry, here's the file.Kopack-AsBuilt.plan

I'm trying to create an as-built with the porch as shown on the photo on the right (in the screenshot attachment). I've got the upper porch and ramp in place but can't get the lower porch to drop 16". I thought it would be as easy as adjusting the room floor down 16" but that doesn't seem to work. I've attached the PLN file (zipped X14). Any input on how to do this would be welcome. Kopack-AsBuilt.zip

I'm designing a small cabin - nothing fancy. The roof is 1:12 pitch using trusses with a kicker on the front (see attached image). My local truss company suggested the design. In between the trusses in the living area, we will use 2x4 nailers (8" from the bottom) to attach the finish ceiling material. In the process of adjusting the roof, something happend to throw the inside roof beam pitch off. It seems the roof plane is still 1:12 but I can't figure out how to get the roof beams (which represent trusses) to follow the 1:12 pitch. Further the roof beams seem to be a different pitch in section 2 than in section 1. Any input to this problem would be greatly appreciated. I've attached the zipped .pln file. Hawley.zip

Steve,
I saw your video on how to do an L Block foudation a couple of weeks ago on the Users of CA FB page a couple of weeks ago. I'm trying to make that work but would like to add an air space and 3" of brick veneer on the outside of the "L Block pony wall". When I define the pony wall with the air space and brick veneer, it pushes the pony wall in so that the brick lines up with the outside of the 8" CMU block. Nothing I do seems to move the pony wall. Can you explain what I'm doing wrong?

There are many ways to accomplish the same thing. I've spent some time today creating CAD Details for each of my notes (labeling the CAD Detail according to what page it goes on) and deleting information off my pages (1-14). As @Alaskan_Son mentioned earlier, when you do this, the %numpages% is correct. It probably depends on how the CA programers (or experts) have decided it should work. I think this might be the best approach I've heard so far during this discussion: @builtright3, will do.
-
@builtright3, that looks like it should work. Will they know the background behind it and how it's supposed to work? Per my requirement, I wanted a macro that would display the total number of pages for that particular drawing based on the total number of pages in the Layout Page Table. I've never put in a suggestion. If it could just be a checkbox as you suggest, that would be great. Thanks!
-
I'll probably use one of the quick methods now but definately want to learn macros. Thanks @Alaskan_Son, @Michael_Gia, @robdyck, and @Electromen for your input.
-
The CAD detail method may have to be the solution. I'm not familiar with CA macros and Ruby (have been looking at it a bit in my spare time) but it seems if I have a layout table that identifies five pages, there should be a macro that could extract that information and put it into usable text.
-
I've looked over my template with consideration of the advice given. I made a couple of changes but the number of printed pages is still not what I need. I do have information on nine pages; four of those nine I don't plan to use on this drawing but I don't want to delete the information in case the customer decides that they want an electrical plan (or something elsse) and I need that information. In the current case, I would like the number of printed pages to reflect how many pages are in the set (which is five). I understand what the macro is doing so I either need a macro that will do what I need or to use a different process for my notes (like putting them in a CAD Detail and pulling them onto a layout page as required). What do you all suggest?
-
I have a total of 14 possible layout pages I use. I have my layout pages defined using the # sign. On my "0" layout page I use %page.print% for the page number and %numpages% to get the total number of pages. I don't always use all 14 pages but would rather not delete them from the client layout file in case they decide they want additional pages later. So, as it is, even if I just need six pages the number 14 displays (see attachment). Is there a way to get that macro to reflect the number of pages used in my layout schedule or the number of actual pages that I will print? Also, is there an easier way to select which pages display in the layout table than opening each layout page and editing each one's layout page information (like a list of layout pages you could pull up and select/deselect the two checkboxes on this DBX?

Robert, I've not used ramps but your suggestion sounds like a feasible work around. I'll try that. Michael, I need my balusters to extend down to the stair treads. No problem with up. Between Dermont's input and Robert's suggestions, I have a work-around. Thanks.
-
Dermot, Thanks for the insight. Per Vince at CA, this is a know issue. I will experiment with what works best. This instance is only to try to get the 3D model as close to construction specs as possible - not worth a lot of time spent on it right now. Robert, Thanks also. I'll still try what you've suggested.
-
Robert, thanks for the input. I'll try that when I get back to that project and let you know if it worked for me.

That's what I need but I can't get it with the stair arrangement I have. I talked to Vince at CA tech support and he said this is a known issue with the Railing and Deck Tools. He added my name to the trouble ticket. The plan file is too big to attach but here is a picture of the stair arrangement. I've had trouble with the wall below the middle rail disappearing and with the the rail coming through the upper platform and railing when I use the "auto" stair rail. Those reasons are why I switched to the desk and rail tool.
-
I've tried all dbx setting combinations I can think of, looked through the discussion topics, and on the FB user group - can't find a solution to get my balusters to go down to the stair treads. I see a few pictures of this type of application but can't figure out how to do it. I turned the auto-rail off and am using the railing tool. Any help with this is appreciated.

Thanks so much. That did it!

I've been working on this staircase for a couple of days. I've got it about the way the customer wants it except I need stair section 1-2 (ref. attachment) to have winders to the walls. I need the upper curved stairs to go against a curved wall so my first and second floor walls are curved accordingly. But, even though "Winders" is checked in the DBX, the lower winders do not appear. Ideally, I'd like to be able to turn "Winders" on for just one section but CA doesn't seem to allow that. When stair sections are joined (like 1-1, 1-2, 1-3,...) "Winders" is either on or off for all. Is there a way to create separate stair sections (like 1,2,3,...) and turn on winders for one section? Or another way to accomplish what I need?

I've never used the symbol options before. I looked through the CA helps and did see any reference to this (may have missed it). Thanks so much for the solution! Just what I needed.

I would like to be able to display a dishwasher and disposal outlet in the position shown on the attachment (back of the cabinet). The way I got this to work is to insert a wall, place the outlet, make it invisible, and turn off the invisible wall display. Is there an easier way? Outlets can be placed on the side of the island cabinet, why not on the back?

Thanks for looking at this and providing an explanation. I will take a look at what you have described.

Renerabbitt, Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I just started using x13 today.
-
Renerabbitt, I was able to adjust specification settings (unchecked "clip to room" and changed "top clip elevation") and get the elevation that I was looking for. This is the only wall elevation out of about 15 that did not generate correctly. Any ideas why?
-
As you mention, I did not save all camera views (even the wall elevation that does not generate correctly). I'm using the wall elevation camera and the bounding section lines end at the walls on each side of the room. I'm not sure what you mean by "move in elevation". I've adjusted the camera forward, back, left and right...no change in the elevation view.
-
I need some input on why a wall elevation will not display. Per the plan view, Elevation 24 cuts off 4"+ above the floor. I've deleted and tried to do a new elevation but it does the same thing. Both cross section and elevation views show the correct view. Am I missing something? 247856770_MaysRev2.plan
