  1. I guess I need to go back and check some things. My overlap is 1 1/4" which is the thickness of my 2nd floor subfloor. I added the subfloor after I created the elevation section view. Do you think this would create the double line?
  2. Most of the time, on a 2-story home, when I do an elevation view the materials overlap (see attached). Do I have a setting wrong somewhere? What would be causing this? I've learned not to adjust autogenerated walls, so I'm trying to find the right way to fix this. Any input is appreciated.
  3. @Renerabbitt and @TeaTime here's what I came up with. Thanks again for the input.
  4. Well, @RenerabbittI like your style, but what @TeaTime presented will do what I need. Thank you both for your input.
  5. Customer wants a wardrobe cabinet shown in a bedroom (to be custom built) - doors on outside with drawers, shelves, and shelf and rod on the inside. I've tried the wall cabinet and modified shelves, but I can only get them to be all roll out or none. I'd like to have three drawers with shelves or shelf and rod above - behind the exterior doors. Is there a way to do this within the cabinet DBX?
  6. I use plot lines as well and do similar to what you describe. The layout grid that @GeneDavis suggests, definitely helps line the layout boxes up.
  7. I think I follow what you have explained. I may try that. Thanks.
  8. I'll have to experiment with the wall section templates. I don't have any walls on my new construction template right now so I'll have to try this out. Thanks for the input.
  9. I hadn't used the grid on a layout page. That does make lining up the layout boxes easier. Thanks for the tip.
  10. Since I've been using CA, I've been placing interior elevations (wall elevations) one at a time on the layout page and lining them up with CAD lines. When you've got 20+ elevations, it takes a while. I'm just wondering if there is a more efficient way to do this? If so, I'd like to hear others' process.
  11. That makes sense. Then just call out the proper materials if you do a cross section? Thanks!
  12. What is the best way to show siding on the exterior of a porch beam? I'd like to do it like it would be built.
  13. @TeaTimethanks for the run through of this. By following your input, I made some changes and did some comparisons. I was able to adjust the fence line with the line management tools to what works for me. I can see where the Print Preview is useful (both on and off).
  14. I've read several articles and the CA helps on line style management but can't figure out how to make line styles look right on a layout. Per the attachment, I created three different line styles to represent a fence. I can live with any of them in plan view but when I sent it to layout, I don't like any of them. Would someone provide some guidance on how to represent something like this in the plan and still get it to look right on a layout? TIA! Fence.pdf
  15. @TeaTime, I like your suggestion also. I'm going to look into both your and @joey_martin's method. I'm glad there are options. Thanks for your input.
  16. @joey_martin, I really was overthinking it. I've never attempted something like this and didn't know what to search for. Thanks for the explanation and examples. This will be so much easier than where I was headed.
  17. I've created a 3-story plan with elevations. I have, then, reversed the plan and saved it in a separate plan file. Now, I'd like to combine the two plans into one so that they can be stacked next to each other for 4, 6 or more units. Along with this, I need the ability to raise a set of roofs and vary the exterior materials to create visual interest. I've considered using the reference plan tool but I would be modifying my already-created plan. Would anyone that has done something like this, be willing to share a method of doing this?
  18. @Alaskan_Son, another good idea. I know there's several ways to accomplish something and I appreciate the suggestion.
  19. @DBCooper I've not used the offsets but that looks like what I need to do. Thanks.
  20. I've imported a DWG floor truss layout file to CA and would like to use it as a reference for my foundation plan. When I reference it, it's in a different location than my plan file. How do I move the referenced file so that it lines up with my current plan file? I've been looking through the CA help and can't find any instructions on how to do this. Could someone point me in the right direction.
  21. I'm trying to run a railing under an attic wall. I can get one or the other but not both. When I pull the railing toward the short wall, the attic wall above disappears. Can someone steer me in the right direction?
  22. @Michael_Gia thanks for the tip. This is about as close as I got it which will work.
  23. I'd like to have a straight end on the circled wall like the one 8 feet above it (referenced in the drawing). I can't get the "Edit Wall Layer Intersections" to cooperate. Is there a way to do this when a curved wall adjoins it?
  24. @Garybills you make this look easy. I'll follow your instructions and see how it works. Thanks!
  25. I'm designing a home with a "silo" attached (I'm in x15 - file is attached). I'm stuck on a couple of items. 1. I can't get the trim on one side of a doorway into the round room to conform to the wall going into the room. I've done some looking but haven't found anything specific to this. Suggestions? 2. I've tried to arc the roof plane edge (a rounded roof) to the side of the silo. I'm getting a lot of broken edges and the exterior wall above the entrance to the round room is open. Suggestions on how to clean this up? Also, in trying to attach the file, I had to delete everything except what is in the attached file along with purging the unused CAD Blocks and materials. Before zipping, the attached file was 34.7MB. The working plan file is 42.8MB. Any ideas why the file is so big? Silo2ndFlrOnly.zip
