  1. @PitMan71 thanks for taking a look at this. I've not been at the computer since Friday morning but will follow what you describe when I get back at it tomorrow. I'll let you know how it turns out.
  2. @Mark3Dand @JKEdmo thanks for your input. I deleted and regenerated a foundation. It's adjusting like it's supposed to now. Thanks for the input.
  3. I'm dealing with two issues on a plan that are taking way to long. They are probably simple fixes but I'm spinning my wheels. 1. I can't get brick to display on a high side wall as it would sit in a piece of angle iron just above a shingled roof. I'm trying to use a knee wall with a brick veneer top and 4" interor bottom. See pictures for how it's going. 2. I've got a stairwall that comes out into the garage as it goes up into the bonus room. My stairs are ok. My problem is getting the angled pieces that cover the stairs in the garage to snap well, I don't know how to get the bottom to cover with drywall, and there is a space in the ceiling where the stairwell goes through the ceiling that I can't figure out how to get to go away. I've attached pictures of both issues and the .pln file. Any input is appreciated. Lewis.zip
  4. @Mark3D, what are you selecting to get it to work righ in the Room Specification DBX?
  5. @JKEdmo, it has a foundation. I wonder why it's not showing up? I tried editing the garage room yesterday. I'm going to try again this morning. Now I'm wondering why my foundation isn't showing up in a cross section?
  6. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've done this many times before but on this plan I can't get the garage floors to lower without the rest of the floors lowering the same. Can someone check out the attached plan and see what I've got set wrong? Your help is much appreciated! Lewis.zip
  7. @Rookie65 I draw the as built then "save as" the remodel. Then I reference the as built in the reference display DBX. I can see that the way you do it, that you would be able to produce a flyby video. I tried copying both to a third plan but after 3 or 4 attempts, I did the phone video as described to @JKEdmo. The method I use is one that I learned from the CA videos but even they may suggest multiple ways of doing it. Thanks for your input.
  8. @JKEdmo It looks like it's not possible since they are two different .pln files. There are ways to combine them but for a quick fix, I dispayed both on my screen in CA in standard mode, started it rotating, and took a slow motion video with my phone. That was good enough for what my customer wanted.
  9. I'm doing an addition for a customer and they want to see a 3D model of the whole thing. I thought I could do this within the CA software, and I'm sure I can, but don't know how. I'd like to do an exterior flyover and include both the as built and the remodel. I didn't know how to go about searching the disscussions on something like this. Could someone steer me in the right direction?
  10. It's an X17.pln. I built the wall with the wall specification DBX.
  11. This has probably been asked numerous times but I can't find a solution in the discussions. I have a wall created to use rock part wat up a wall behind a wood stove. When I try to join the walls, I can't get the trim to butt to the rock (on the right) or get the baseboard off (on the left). The "edit wall layer intersections" don't have the tools to do this (that I can see). I know this is minor, but is there an easy way to correct this? The .PLN file is attached as a .ZIP file. Any input is appreciated - even a reference to a discussion on the solution. Morgan2zip.zip
  12. @JKEdmo I toggled the "roof over this room" a couple of times and the ceiling planes appeared. I'm not sure how that works. @DBCooper thanks for the input. That fixed the soffit (beam) issue. I'm back in business on this project thanks to you two!
  13. @JKEdmo I need to update my title block. I'm using X16. I'll take a look at the video and see if there's something I'm missing. Thanks.
  14. @JKEdmo thanks for taking a look at this. I toggled "Roof Over This Room" off and still don't see the ceiling planes. I've checked to make sure they are supposed to be displayed and they should be....hummm. I wonder why I'm not seeing them? Can you get the "beam" to go flush with the ceiling plane?
  15. I've spent about 3 hours trying to figure out why ceiling planes (to make a cathedral ceiling in this living room) won't display. I had some beams (soffits) in there and I've left one. But I can't get the "beams" placed under the ceiling plane (which won't display). It seems there is something at 11'-11" that prevents them from going to the ceiling - but I can't see that either. I've never had trouble with ceiling planes before but this has got me stumped. I've attached the plan file. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Klimuk.zip
  16. @CharlesVolz thanks for the input. I had used the Reset To Defaults tool but maybe that doesn't catch the attic walls? I also cleaned up that attic wall to make it one continuous wall (see attached). But I noticed in yours that you can only bring the roof down to the outside brick line. If you try to pull it all the way down, CA pulls the roof line back from the roof all the way up. Anyway, thanks for the solution. I'll know what to do if this happens again.
  17. I've got another problem with a plan I'm working on. Per the attachment, I can't get the roof to pull up against an exterior wall. I put a break on both planes and can pull the top part in but not the very bottom. I see what looks like a ceiling plane on the back side and I think this may be the problem but I can't figure out how to fix it. I've attached the .pln file if anyone can give me some input. 18. Well I fixed the adjoining roof. I didn't have the main roof plane pulled all the way to the attic wall under the shed roof. I still need input on the shadow board on the main gable. TIA!
  19. I have this issue regularly and have searched the ChiefTalk forum with no success. How do you get the shadow bard to extend (continue) past a wall below or an adjoining roof as in the attached sample? I'm sure it's easy but I can't figure it out.
  20. @Alaskan_Sonand @TeaTime thanks for the input. My customer wanted an elaborate porch then decided to go with what you saw. I guess that caused the dining room problem. As for the garage, I'll take a look at that. After five years of using CA I still have problems with foundations. I need to get my head wrapped around what all the DBX inputs do. Thank you both.
  21. I'm not sure what I did but I've got a couple of rooms without floors. One is defined (garage), the other is not (dining). I noticed that the exterior room line has some overlaps that I don't think should be there. I've attached the file. If anyone can take a look and let me know what I did wrong, I'd sure appreciate it. 22. @para-CADI just watched this video. Lots of good information. Thanks for posting. I'm trying to determine the best way to incorporate a 2nd monitor.
  23. @GeneDavisI got it using a 3D moulding. I like this because I can save it as one of my custom windows and reuse it as a unit. I still don't understand about pasting the 2D CAD detail in the live section. I just did a 3D moulding on one side, adjusted it so it looked right and drug it around the other two edges. It looks good and will work for other plans. Thanks.
  24. @ValleyGuythanks for the advice. I stepped right through this and it works great. I still want to learn @GeneDavis' method. I need more practice with 3D moldings anyway.
  25. @GeneDavisI've not worked much with 3D mouldings. When you say you paste the 2D CAD detail in the live section and make the molding, could you break that down in a few steps? I've got the 2D CAD from view, but don't know what to do next.
