  1. Just an FYI, this is what results when the vendor exposes the inner working of the software to the end users via a programing language. http://www.theswamp.org/index.php?topic=47888 and this is a small example.
  2. I too need a larger screen, 24" now. I tried two monitors for a short time but my neck started to ache so I quit. I don't have many more buttons in ACAD but I have more direct access to object settings.
  3. OK I think I can do that. The lobby square footage required I put invisible walls but part of the reception are will be raised as well. See attached. Not sure how I can add more invisible walls without messing up the reception area square footage.
  4. My first project is nearing completion of the basic plan. The elevations look good to me although need clean up & annotating. The 3D view is working except for the ceiling height in the lobby area. If you look close at the attached picture you can see the ceiling through the upper windows. That area is supposed to have a 12' ceiling ans all else a 10' ceiling. In reality the architect wants a 10' & 12' drop ceiling and I put the hard ceilings at 10-8 and 12-8. The actual building will have 10-8 & 12-8 CMU walls with 24" web trusses sitting on the walls. Then a plywood deck & 2x8 frame parapet walls. The flat deck roof will be stepped over the high ceiling area & tapered insulation will provide roof drainage to the right wall where the parapet wall is at 0". But I drew the structure as two floors with no roof. Using the 2nd floor as the roof. 1st floor ceiling is at 10' and 2nd floor thickness is, well I'll attach the structure dialog for you to see. How do I get the lobby ceiling to 12'? I plan on using ACAD to do the structural sheets as I am still too slow with CA and don't know how at this early stage of learning.
  5. Joe, I know how to lock a layer, I want a button. Enough already with the menu train. I want more buttons! Sorry couldn't help myself. <sick humor>
  6. If you are still using ACAD visit with us over at TheSwamp.org I am CAB over there. The LISP forum & Show Your Stuff forum have lots of goodies for the ACAD user. I would like a "Lock Layer Button" in CA while we are wishing.
  7. That would be a more logical choice, for me anyway.
  8. Oh thank you Glen. After several failed attempts I was able to assign the ESCape key to select. Seems that escape closes the dialog box, but if you enter some keys you can backspace & the press the escape key & it took. My life is sooo much better today.
  9. Found it, That solved that issue. Thanks
  10. Thanks, yes escape should be cancel current command but then should return you to select, not the previous command.
  11. OK, Got all my swing doors & bi-pass door comments in the table. One problem: One room requires a Barn Door or Exterior Sliding door. The Leaf is on the outside of the wall. I used a Door Opening with a Polyline rectangle for the leaf for plan view but that is not in the schedule. I have Door Style > Slab & Door type > Doorway & Include in Schedule checked but it is not in the schedule. any ideas?
  12. Yes, that field updated the schedule. Oh that was easy. Just needed some splainen.
  13. OK you are ahead of me..... Looks like the Dx with the Leaf description is the one the change the comment field.
  14. Yes, I did misunderstand. I see now but how to change the comment field in the Door Schedule to say "Solid Wood Core, steel frame" for doors D3 & D4 of which there are 6 each.
  15. I have a door schedule in the drawing. Just wanted to update/change the comment & other fields. Change comment for D3 on one list did not change the comment on the other list. D3 is D3 is D3 is it not? If it is local to itself the why is it displayed on the component list for D5 when I access it via D5?
  16. Funny you bring up the macro recorder, I was researching them this afternoon for the Escape key. Drives me nuts, Just want it to return me to the Select mode. I hate using the space bar. I must continue using ACAD for some clients & the key strokes are messing with my head, doesn't take much.
  17. Don't understand this one. I click on an exterior door and get the comp-1 list and the can click on interior door & get comp-2 list Is this normal? I change a line say for D3 comment and it is not shown in the other component list.
  18. Yes but the nudge keeps the object on the grid. May not matter depending on the object. Just liked the nudge operation. I do appreciate the feed back fellows.
  19. Exactly, that is why I love my custom buttons.
  20. BTW Scott, not ranting at you just Chief for tying our hands.
  21. Interesting, thanks for the info. The Transform Replicate is a good way to move one time. But I wanted to use the nudge. This is what I use often. I get an object, say the Room label and want to adjust it to fit a re-sized room. Not just center it but adjust it to avoid some objects & play with the LOOK of it on the sheet. This is where the nudge is a great tool. All i wanted is a quick & efficient way to adjust the jump distance on the fly.
  22. Sorry for the ambiguity. I like the Nudge using the arrow keys because it is a fast way to move objects when no specific distance is needed. I discovered the method of TAB key during a drag to enter the distance to move. This is a help. Back to nudge. Handy little bugger. But when working in larger spaces, like a 80x170 building I am doing I would like to change the jump distance to say 12 and back to 1 at times. If I was in ACAD I would create two new buttons & assign a lisp or command line expression to the buttons to do just that. Or to even open a dialog box to as for the new jump value. So I discover today that no user defined buttons, no macro language, no ruby support. Just sour grapes on my part. I spent 15 years with almost total control of the environment & now am in a straight jacket so to speak. OK sorry I had a little rant of my own. Any way so set the nudge short of jumping into the menu system?
  23. OK I can't believe there is not a hot key or button to click to set the jump distance (snap unit).
  24. Who is doing the engineering on this job? Max pressure on the 2x sill plate using PT is around 425 PSI should work if placed under the rim board but will not work if under the joist only. Too much pressure on the plate. Here in Florida the sill plate is often eliminated & a galvanized strip is used to isolate the joist from the CMU wall. Even TJI & Web trusses are installed that way. Use a Simpson strap for each joist to attach to the wall. Use a rim board held just off the CMU or use a PT rim board. If you use PT joist no isolation is needed. None of this addresses the problem though. Just show 2x6 & call it out as 2x4.
