  1. Does anyone know if the back up entire plan option #3 is for zipping option #1? Im thinking if the files become really large using option #1 thats the option for zipping? A bit unsure so I wanted to ask about it before starting this process. Thanks!
  2. Great! Thanks Ryan I will look for that.
  3. Does anyone know how to best tile an arch in Chief without it looking like this? I cant seem to find the right solution for this application. Thanks!
  4. Robert wow thanks for all the explanation... you should work at Chief in tech support that was so helpful. I will try that out. Thanks for including the picture it was easier to understand it all. Chief, glad you were able to see what was going on in the library. Yes, that would be great to adjust this for future catalog updates. Thanks!
  5. Robert.... thats right...duh I completely forgot the program doesnt grab the texture from the library its the directories. I will try and call tech support just to let them know about it. Does anyone happen to have the valley backdrop as a jpeg so I can add it to my library manually in the meantime?
  6. Thanks Robert and Dermot. I figured since it was my first one it was going to be a little bit of a learning curve. I will try it again. I think toning down the line count and understanding that better will probably help. Thank you both for the links.
  7. Hi Robert, I took your advice and copied the Barker library to my user library and changed the name of the "valley" to "wood". I then deleted the original barker library so there was no valley wood image anymore. I shut chief down twice and reopened but when I went back into the Chief backdrops library the valley wood was still showing which is a mystery to me how it could still be showing if I changed the name plus deleted the original barker library. Im going to contact chief to let them know. Can someone post what the real image is for the valley in chiefs backdrop library is so I can use it in the meantime? I frequently use different backdrops regularly. Thank you!
  8. I watched a webinar today on chiefs website about the 360 panoramas and 3d viewer. Since Ive never tried either of them I tested it out. Panorama worked fine but does anyone know about the 3d viewer and how big of a file capacity you can upload? I tried uploading a larger plan and it just kept saying loading like it couldnt upload it to view. The message after uploading was that it was successful but to view it in the viewer it just kept saying loading. I then tried a plan about half the size and got the same results. So Im just trying to figure out what the tricks are to get this thing to work. Thanks in advance!
  9. Hi David, In my description I said the chief backdrop was being replaced and blocked by a barker texture? I then took two pictures to show everyone what Im seeing when I click on backdrops and there is a wood texture in my library in lieu of a backdrop. That texture is the texture from the barker library. Im not sure why you felt this was insufficient as a description? Thanks Robert, I will give that a try! Thanks everyone for your input.
  10. Does anyone know why my Chief library is blocking a chief standard backdrop and in lieu picking up a barker texture?? I took a couple pictures of exactly whats happening. Id like to have my chief backdrop in my library. Is anyone else having this happen? This is all just standard libraries and manufacture libraries so Im not sure how these could be mixing up. Thanks in advance!
  11. Thanks for the additional information Graham. Yes the whole plan got messed up when I was trying to load it on chieftalk. The plan was so huge I had to move things around and nearly delete everything so im not surprised things got jumbled and messed up. Thanks again for figuring this out... now I can go back into the plan and actually take a picture without it looking like I dont know how to paint!
  12. Thanks Chris, that makes sense. I will try both out and see what seems to be best per plan. I definitely learned more on this thread then I have in all my years using chief. Outside balconies and occassionally interior open to below railings have been problematic so with the myriad of solutions I should be much better off. Thanks again for your input!
  13. Eric, but doesnt it show up inaccurately if you use a wall layer for a railing with too many lines in 2d or do you just custom create it so the additional lines are invisible and not shown?
  14. Thanks so much Graham for figuring this out! Geez now that youve found out what makes the PBR so unpredictable Im definitely going to spend more time looking at changing room labels if I come across this again. The other strange thing is I never thought that the column facing a certain direction would ever make a difference given its identical on all four sides. This is another items Im going to be paying attention to as I didnt think it made any difference. I appreciate everyones time and help...thank you!
  15. Thank you everyone for your help and Steve for the video. Ryan, strange thing is I selected "deck, railing, fence" for all the railings so maybe just take Chris's advice and add a layer? I wonder why chief doesnt add these layers into these wall/railing types already? Chris, I will try that wall combo thanks for the explanation. Do you find it easier just to place the newels manually or create the thicker wall and place them in the railing DBX? Thanks for the clarification!
  16. Does anyone know how to gain more control over railings, newels and floors when it comes to balconies? Ive labeled both the upper balcony and lower covered loggia nearly every room label for it to appear "normal" without any success. So several of the issues Im running into are... -Due to the plan having larger Newels and columns they jet way over the edge of the balcony and bottom floor foundation. - The open space between floors on the balcony. Here is a picture and the plan. Thanks in advance for any help! Balcony Plan.plan
  17. Thanks Michael, I didnt think about the columns positioning towards the rooms. Maybe I will group select them together as an architectural block and then put them back and maybe since they will be one unit the colors will be consistent. Yes, I agree the raytraces are so nice but I SO love the PBRs speed its amazing. Hopefully in the next release of Chief the PBR can have some improvements to increase texture accuracy and a few other things. Thanks for pointing a few things out I will look into that.
  18. Hi Graham, Yeah I went back into the plan and tried unchecking that selection in the DBX but it didnt seem to change anything. Heres the room from that plan. PBR_Colors.plan
  19. Chris... thats exactly what I thought! Thats why I ran around the plan with the rainbow tool clicking on all the columns and wall stucco to make sure its the same color and material type and it was. I also had this happen on the interiors of another plan with moldings and even paint on the wall being identical but then appearing in PBR as a completely different shade of white. I wanted to post this stucco example because the color isnt slightly off its a completely different color altogether even though the same material. As for the columns the same exact column and material. This is what my complaint about PBR is that how can you remedy something that isnt incorrect? (meaning same material and color just not accurate in PBR).
  20. Thanks everyone, I appreciate your help and input. Yeah being in San Francisco bay area Im sure we have the worst and most tedious expectations for everything. Nothing simple out here.
  21. Has anyone run into any color inaccuracies using PBR? I havent experienced this in Raytracing before. Its so drastically off, that I use the rainbow tool to make sure the material texture is even the same thing because looking at it its clear its not. Sure enough identical textures, in the same space for lighting so I cant understand how the colors are so different on the same material. The frustrating thing about when this happens is theres really nothing you can do because had it been a different texture I could just correct it. This is the correct identical material just showing up different thus making any renderings useless using this view because it looks like you painted incorrectly. Attached is an example of what Im talking about.
  22. Where is a good resource for looking at a good standard rule of thumb for construction documentation? Ive noticed that the books I have on it, architecture firms ive worked at and interior design firms drawings vary so much. Ive heard that the AIA has the best standard but when I checked online you have to become a member to get any info on CDs. Im just trying to see how in alignment I am with a good standard of drawings. Ive seen such a huge variation its hard to decifer whats a good standard. Thanks!
  23. Thanks Ryan I will give that a try!
  24. Since my last post and solution to deep set windows with the brick sill everything has been fine. However, now if I want to apply a certain casing to the exterior window lets say CA 12 it deforms the whole thing and appears to only work without a basing style besides the flat one shown. Is there anyway to make this work using a different casing type without having to customize it with a polyline? My example would be my picture at the top window 3 but apply a CA 12 casing to the exterior. Once I do it changes the entire look of the casing and isnt useable. Thanks!
