  1. Joe, sorry to take so long to respond, but have been out of town. I am confused about your answer and want to make sure we are talking about the same issue. I am asking if I can delete the materials and textures that I create AFTER I import them in to my user library. I usually download items like a copy of a picture of tile to my desktop. I then open Chief and in my User Library in my tile folder, I choose to add new material. The texture file I select is the image of say an Ann Sacks tile that I saved to my desktop. I wanted to know if after creating this new material in my User Library, if I could then delete that Ann Sacks tile jpeg on my desktop? I wanted to make sure that if used that imported Ann Sacks tile in a plan from my User's library, that I won't have a problem with Chief after deleting the file on my desktop. Thanks so much.
  2. Thanks for answering, but are you saying that as you add new products to your library, you have to save it. I wanted to expand my tile library and texture library not for any particular project, just so that I would have them as a resource. If I had to save these for every project, it would become a huge amount of stuff on my hard-drive after awhile. Hope this is not the case.
  3. Here I am again asking what is probably a very BASIC question, but I have been fearful of deleting symbols downloaded and jpegs created for tiles, fabric, textures etc for new materials for fear that I will get the dreaded file can't be found message after using one of them in a plan--especially the textures & jpegs. Question: can I delete them after they have been imported into my library or does the library look for the material jpeg each time? Thanks again for all of your patience as I venture beyond the safe Chief Architect library content.
  4. It is so helpful when everyone posts how they have handled importing Kohler items. I so wish we could get a manufacturer catalog from them or another plumbing company. Wouldn't it be nice if some of the Chief video training wizards would do one importing "problem" symbols and how to solve the issues. I am finding now that all of the Kohler faucets and shower/tub trims etc. are showing up in the thumbnails as white on 3D Warehouse and importing sometimes in white or a red color. I've attached a thumbnail showing other brands such as Brizio mixed in and they look normal. What's the deal with that, last year that wasn't the case-something Kohler has changed in their symbols?
  5. Dennis, thank you very much. I will try this the next time.
  6. I have not adjusted those. I have used Chief for a long time, but I have not worked with creating symbols or importing many of them, especially before before Chief made it so much easier to do so with the last few versions. Since X3-6, I have imported symbols and have gone as far as changing the colors if necessary, & file names. If they were not oriented properly, I would just delete those. I have tried using the Chief help manual, but it assumes a base knowledge that I don't have about 3D modeling, I so appreciate your help and willingness to share your hard earned knowledge. As mentioned, I did change it to inserts into countertop. So, in the z setting, do you enter a standard 36" or do you account for the height of the sink? Is it a negative or positive number.
  7. I would love to get some tips to successfully import 3D Kohler sink symbols. I have tried multiple combinations of advanced setting options - such as having it insert into a countertop, and not having it insert, BUT have it sit on a base cabinet with a height off the floor that I calculate as 36" minus the depth of the sink. I have changed the option: Type to "sinks bathroom". No matter the combination of any of the above, the sink still floats above the countertop. I can't grab it in elevation nor in cross-section to pull it down. I have no difficulty with toilets and pedestal sinks, nor with faucets--only sinks both kitchen and bath. I appreciate any guidance with this.

  9. I want to thank you for sharing these. I have gone to 3D Warehouse and have downloaded symbols, but not all successfully. If one doesn't have a lot of experience playing around with creating symbols and knowing how to manipulate them, they don't always work or look correct, so I really appreciate all your hard work!
  10. I've been looking for something simple like this too--thank you for your generosity and everyone else's too!
  11. Brian, thanks so much! As soon as I get some "spare" time, I am going to work on this lesson. Sharon
  12. Brian, Made a copy of the plan and worked on it. I wanted to show you the results of following your detailed instructions. The interior turned out perfectly-see the picture I've attached. The exterior not so much. I had difficulty with that "interior" wall on the outside of the dormer. With the shed roof on, I also had problems with the interior sloped ceiling. So, I deleted the roof and left it at step 1. Since, my elevations and 3-D's just need to be interior, this will work. However, I would really like to learn this. If you get a chance to send me back my plan, I would be able to open it and the practice copy I made. I could then look at where you pulled your ceiling planes, look at the specification dialog boxes etc. and see where I messed up at this first try. I can't tell you how much I appreciate everything you have done. Sharon
  13. Brian, I want to thank you again for taking the time to work on this for me and help walk me through it. You have been very detailed and I especially appreciate your thumbnails. I am going to try it right now on my own so that I will know how to do this. But, I would appreciate a copy of the file also in case I make a mess of things. I have to work with roofs so seldom, since I am usually working on design plans for a kitchen or bath remodel that for the most part is pretty straight forward, so I do appreciate you coming to the rescue. Sharon
  14. I appreciate you telling me how to attach a plan file. This file is now attached. I'm sorry, but I thought I had explained that the room with the toilet is a shed roof dormer addition and I have not been able to make ONLY this room into a dormer. It has a flat ceiling as shown in the photos and the ceiling height is 7'-0". In my Chief Plan it has a knee wall of 44 1/2" high with a severely slanted ceiling. Sharon Master Bedroom_Bath-Chang.zip
  15. Before I posted to the Forum, I have watched video tutorials, read the Chief Help Manuals, searched the Chief Architect Help and support site to try to work this out on my own. I even downloaded some of Chief's sample plans to explore roof and wall settings for solutions. I'm still struggling. Here's my problem, I am working on a master bedroom/bath in a 100+ year old home in Portland. As is the case with these homes, previous owners have done additions over the years. In this case, definitely not to code. The bedroom is in the attic, so there is a sloping ceiling plane to kneewalls. I have successfully gotten everything done in the as-built with one exception: I am having major problems attempting to put in the not to code shed dormer that houses a tiny sink and toilet. You will see in the photos that someone along the way also stuck a shower in the opposite corner of the bedroom and surrounded it with a partition wall made of glass doors. So, it's a mess. It will be gutted, but I will still be left with this shed dormer in that wall as part of this remodel due to the budget. Ceiling Height in bedroom: 96", in bath 84". The roof pitch is 9 1/2 in 12. That setting was needed to get the knee wall height at the existing 44 1/2" height. I am hoping that I haven't jumped the gun on doing all of the interior walls etc and saving this dormer for the last. That may be my problem. I guess if that's the case, perhaps I can add a 3rd floor and but I will still need to follow someone's helpful suggestion on accomplishing this dormer in the knee wall. I have attached the jpegs. I attempted to upload the plan as a DWG, but was not permitted to do so. Thanks so much for your help with this. Sharon
  16. Thank you both. OK, tried F12 and that did nothing. I have also closed out and opened it again. I have two more thumbnails that are interesting., The first shows what is selected when I click on that half wall. The second one shows that when I delete that half wall, the cabinet corrects itself and now has crown on the side. Again, in older versions, I used the railing tool and never had an issue. I may do that and see what happens.
  17. I have not had this in previous versions of Chief. I placed a 42" high half-wall using the straight half-wall tool to open the kitchen to the dining room. I had used the room divider tool to go from the half wall to the opposite wall "enclosing" the room, and maintaining it's room specification of kitchen. I have deleted the room divider/invisible wall, but that does not help. It seems as if the cabinet/program is reading the half-wall as a full height wall. I would appreciate any help.
  18. OK- it's not perfect but using all of your input, here's the result and this will be OK for an approximation for the 3-D views. Thanks so much to everyone.
  19. Is 3.0 just an upgrade for Ipad Room Planner or is this the long awaited Room Planner for Android tablets? As a side note: It looks like the Disto #7100i is available now and one doesn't have to wait until mid-June.
  20. This is why Chief Talk/Forums has always been my go to place for searching topics and to learn. AND every now and then to ask for help. That willingness to share and to help others is what makes this community SO great. I had the pleasure of meeting some of you at the Chief Architect breakfast given in Las Vegas during the International Builder's Show and KBIS. I just got back to my office, but I am now going to take all of these suggestions and learn how to master this. Thank you!
  21. Kilgore and Gene, thank you for taking the time to help me with this. Gene Interiors does allow quite a bit of default adjustment--just doesn't allow terrain, decks etc. I was concerned that I needed to use terrain to step this down the hill, but will try Kilgore's suggestion and see what I can work out there. Trying to get existing floorplans in for remodels can be trying at times. I so appreciate your help and comments.
  22. Wow, Thank you Alan for your kind comment. Kbird, I will try again with the file attachment. I do not know why the jpeg failed to attach. I went into my profile after posting and set all of that up after seeing that the switch to the new format dumped all my old settings.
  23. I do not know where to begin to get this into the as-built remodel plan. We are remodeling the kitchen and the stairs from the entry level come right down into the kitchen area on an angle! The house is built on a hill and the garage, entry, powder and laundry are on this mid level, then it goes down to the dining room, kitchen, & family. Second story goes up from the entry and are the bedrooms. There is no way to render or do perspective views without including these stairs. I do not have the original blueprints and the clients are sure not going to pay me to measure their whole house for a kitchen remodel, so just need to get an approximation! I would appreciate any advice on how to set this up if someone has encountered this layout before. I've attached a photo and thanks again! Looks like I lost my signature info etc. when ChiefTalk became "forums". Sharon X6 Interiors User since Chief Ver. 8
