With the X15 update my library filter result images are so light I can hardly see them. I have searched but can't see a way to change them. Appreciate your help, this is the first time I have ever posted a question. Image attached. Thank you

Is the 15 ft mid-way between max height and wall plate??

For roofs greater than 10 degrees in slope, the MRH (h) is the distance from the average roof height (eave height to highest point of roof structure) to the average finish grade line for the direction being considered.

For roofs 10 degrees or less, it is the distance from the average finish grade elevation to the roof eave height.  The definition on page 22 of ASCE7 does not refer to any parapets, but to me, it only makes sense to take the top of the parapet for the upper "h" value for the building.  Technically, the eave height is where the sloping roof ends.  As there is no real exposed eave when there is a parapet, assuming the wall continues past the roof to the top of the parapet, I conservatively interpret the top of the parapet as the "eave".  If the parapet varies in height, I use the average top of parapet height in computing "h".
This is typically for a sloping lot

So I'm a swimming pool and outdoor living designer using a program from Structure Studios, and I've been firmly entrenched in that user interface for almost 20 years now. The mechanics of chief architect are really frustrating me and I'm finding it hard to learn.

I just need help correctly drafting up an outdoor living area with basic structural designing, and roof plans.

Can anyone do one-on-one training via Zoom?

so the best way is put everything on the plan files and I can always turn off layers in the Layout files.

You'd be setting up your saved plan views to turn on and off specfic layers within your plan

I want to color highlight, say LVLs for example, on my framing plan.  Is there a way to assign a solid color fill style to a layer so everything on that layer is colored in all views?

Know I can open the item to assign the color or assign a colored material so it shows in 3D views.

    Thanks,

    Keith

No...a 3d view is going to apply a  material to your framing member, so you would need a material with the color you want, but there is no way to assign a material based on the layer of the object it is being applied to.

Seems like a lot of silliness to me.  If you want more than one sink, just place them free floating in the plan and drag them on top of the cabinet.  Done.

*eyes rolling back into the top of my head so far I think they might be stuck now*

We needed something to do in here...Between you and tea time always citing the help files, us normies aren't given the opportunity to use our constructive brains

3 sinks in 1 cabinet. I know you know how to do this, so you must be asking about something different.

I do not. To my knowledge a single cabinet cannot have two top/appliance fixtures...I know how to place two freestanding sink fixtures in the same model space as a cabinet and have them appear to be owned by that cabinet, or I know how to block a set of cabinets that both own a sink and thus appear in the preview window of a dbx when an arch block is opened, but I do not know how to open a cabinet and find that there are two sinks in the cabinet dbx.

Depending on ones purposes there are multiple ways to skin this cat; I used 6 cabinets to model it in just about 5 minutes (not bragging). 2 cabinets for the sinks, 3 cabinets for the...cabinets and 1 for the base. I did use a saved vanity which already had the right type of sink.

I could do it in one cabinet if teatime or Ryan would share the trick to get 2 sinks in one cabinet

Attaching the .plan file for you, Eric, and Rene's use. The window labels are not stacked and the elevations only show what my screenshot shows above in this thread.

I don't see the plan file. Maybe you removed it. I'd like to check it out.
Can always quote or at mention me if you want me to take a look at something :)

I have, hopefully, a quick question regarding how to determine the window and door type shown on the floor plan. I have a series of clerestory windows above doors. To select them I just use the Tab key in floor plan view. I open them up in the Window Schedule, and it lists everything about the particular window EXCEPT the window designation (e.g., W01). Is there a setting that I need to select that shows this in the Schedule.

Please see attached Camera view of the far left window for an example. The attached Schedule doesn't list the actual window designation anywhere. The only way to see what type of window this is, is to look on the respective Window Schedule. Very, very time consuming and unnecessary if we just had a check mark in the Schedule.

Attachment 3 is what I'm trying to show in the elevations. I do this manually, but to search for the windows and doors in their Schedules is very time consuming.

Trying to understand your request but not sure what you are after.
The Callout Symbol is the Column to Include will show window labels if you are using callout labels which it seems you are. You could use the "top" column to include if you wanted to easily spot based on frame/jamb height AFF.
You could also turn on one of the 3d elevations in a schedule.
Why not open all windows and include in schedule and turn on labels?

Hi All, I am trying to import a PDF that already has the title block into my layout but my title block is showing.  How do I turn off the title block for some of the pages?

    Thanks, Chad

Take a blank page and open the edit page information tool  and then set that page to a template page. Then go to the pages where you need the PDF and open the the edit page information tool for those pages and choose your new blank page template

I think when you're removing the Text Above Line column, it's reverting back to sorting by Text.

Re-add that column, sort by it, then uncheck Auto Sort, THEN remove the Text Above column.

    this is correct

Problem occurred when adding a different type of note "Demo 01" for example

use the schedule number instead. Lots of problems solved. Then you can re-order to your liking by sliding rows up and down
    "Demo" %schedule_number%
I would use a separate schedule for your demo notes

Hello there fellow builders, architects and draftspersons!

My name is Justin, and I am a young contractor managing a construction business with my father in Columbia, Missouri. Between the two of us, we have nearly 30 years of experience in the industry building anything from small decks to large commercial buildings. Over the past few years, we have narrowed our focus to the residential remodeling space, doing mostly high-end kitchens and bathrooms, along with building additions and full-scale home renovations. I am in search of a talented and dedicated professional to collaborate on residential remodeling projects. Our company is in big a growth phase, and we are looking to forge a partnership with someone who has a profound understanding and expertise in using Chief Architect, specifically the X15 version.

We have been attempting to do this ourselves, but we just don't have the time nor the qualifications to create the level of detailed drawings that we would like to have. The role would involve creating detailed plans, drawings, renderings, and construction documentation for about 2-3 projects per month. These projects vary in size and scope, offering a dynamic and (hopefully) creatively fulfilling workload. As this is a crucial position within our business, we are looking for someone who is not only skilled in the technical aspects of design but who also values the art of transforming spaces and can bring a unique perspective to our team. **I would also like to note that we use an amazing LiDAR scanning technology called Canvas.io to generate native CA .plan files of as-built models, which speeds up the process greatly.

    Preferred Requirements:

    • Profound knowledge and experience in Chief Architect, especially X15, as all our projects are designed within this platform.
    • Based in the Midwest, ideally in Missouri (though not necessary).
      • Proximity is key for us as it facilitates smoother communication and collaboration, especially across time zones and familiarity with building codes.
    • A strong portfolio demonstrating experience with remodels, additions, and other residential applications.
      • We value attention to detail and the ability to see the potential in every space.
    • Ability to work independently but also fit into a collaborative team environment.
    • Commitment to deadlines and a clear understanding of the importance of time management in a fast-paced project environment.

We are excited about the opportunity to welcome a new member to our team who is passionate about making spaces beautiful, functional, and uniquely tailored to our clients' needs. If you are interested please respond to this thread, or better yet shoot me an email to justin@ovationhomesmo.com with your info, portfolio, maybe some references, and details about your experience with Chief Architect.

    Thank you!!

Well known within the broad Chief Architect community and it's employees. A power user, and I train other power users.
Happy to hop in on design and CD's and more:

I tried your idea. It works until I remove the "Text Above Line".

See what I put above. You are sorting by the "Text" field. If you do not want to sort by text and instead want to sort by number, you would need to uncheck that option. Also Tea Time keeps asking if you are manually inputting note values or are you utilizing the default OOTB Schedule_number? The OOTB schedule_number should auto-number in X15.
Also, you could always manually reorder by dragging rows up and down
Chief locks its plan file, so its not accessible for upload if you still have the file open

That's different though, that just re-adds missing numbers if things have been deleted.

I'm actually a bit confused how it got mixed up in the first place since chief auto orders the numbers.

When you open the Notes, is the Text Above Line set to the default %simple_schedule_number%? Or did you enter your own numbers?

he's using the sort-by method I show above..and needs to uncheck it
