decorators3
Hi I'm having difficulty modelling a covered exterior basement stairwell and would appreciate some guidance on the best way to approach it. The stairwell connects directly to the basement and has an exterior entrance door positioned below the main-floor level. I'm trying to reproduce the design shown in the attached drawings. So far, I've drawn the stairwell using foundation walls on Floor 0 and added the staircase. I originally created an upper enclosure on Floor 1, with the room set to Open Below, but have since removed that section to concentrate on getting the lower stairwell correct. My intention is to have the concrete foundation walls finish approximately at the exterior door threshold, with framed walls above to accommodate the entrance door and roof. The difficulty I'm having is getting the foundation wall heights, staircase elevation, and exterior door to align properly without affecting the main basement structure. I'm attaching the original drawings along with screenshots of my current model. What would be the best way to model this type of stairwell in Chief Architect? Should I be using foundation walls on Floor 0 with a separate framed enclosure above, or is there a simpler approach? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks Levina
CarrieS
I recommend the foundation room and the Open below room on floor 1. You might choose the floor 1 walls to be ponywalls so you can get the concrete to the bottom of the doorway. Here's a small example. basement entrance.zip
