ChiefDXS
I would like to create this house in Chief Architect: My boss told me I have to do it with only Auto Roofs because he is not sure if he gave me the correct dimensions so we may need to update it later. So far I have constructed the large gable: But when I try to add the smaller gable on the side, it creates a double gable: Or it creates one big gable: Does anyone have any ideas for how to fix this with only using Auto Roofs? https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/110-Fox-Chase-Hendersonville-NC-28739/441854964_zpid/?mmlb=g,
JonathanK
Whew...with auto is gnarly. Maybe break a little 3"-6" section and change that little section to hip? I would definitely draw it manual...not sure why you would HAVE to draw it auto. It would be easier to change down the road doing it all manual anyways. EDIT: Just tested it, and it needs to be a 6" chunk.
ChiefDXS Posted yesterday at 12:46 PM Author Share Posted yesterday at 12:46 PM Thank you so much! This is working. I am having some minor problems with Auto Roofs though... While it works for the gable, the gable doesn't go straight back, it has a strange diagonal, which transfers to the other side of the house: Do you know how to "guide" the Auto Roofs to make the gable go straight back, like the picture on the left shows? JonathanK Posted yesterday at 01:21 PM Share Posted yesterday at 01:21 PM Just quickly looking through, there is this option. If you know the pitch of your cricket (roof between gables), and you do some math on where it switches pitch, you can get it to line up correctly. But I'm still 100% on board with just doing this roof manually...
ChiefDXS Posted yesterday at 02:07 PM Author Share Posted yesterday at 02:07 PM Thank you so much! I think this is working! Sadly, It will only let me do down to a 1/4 out of 12 slope on the hip. If I could do more than that, I think it would be fixed. Is there a way to change the settings that way it would go farther down - to like 0.15? If not, this may be the closest it can get and my boss will hopefully accept it. Thank you again!
JonathanK Posted yesterday at 02:43 PM Share Posted yesterday at 02:43 PM Make the pitch of the cricket what it actually needs to be. Don't make it 0.
ChiefDXS Posted yesterday at 03:07 PM Author Share Posted yesterday at 03:07 PM I tried to make it less than 1/4" but Auto Roofs changes it back to 1/4". I think it needs to be less than 0.25, because of how it progresses:
JonathanK Posted yesterday at 03:26 PM Share Posted yesterday at 03:26 PM You need to adjust your "in from baseline" number. That's what pushes the steeper roof pitch back. Get it so that it lines up with your main roof. Either by trial and error, or by....well...probably trial and error will be the easiest. And make sure that your Upper Pitch matches what the main roof is. Right now it looks like it's shallower.
JonathanK Posted yesterday at 03:27 PM Share Posted yesterday at 03:27 PM (edited) For the record...you could have had this roof banged out, done, and moved on to other projects in about 15 minutes if you did it manually. And adjusting it later is easy as well...so I don't know what the hang up is. Just because there's auto-build, doesn't mean you should use it. I'm relatively new to the software. How do I do this again?
Solution JonathanK Posted 21 hours ago Solution Share Posted 21 hours ago Just above where it says "In from Baseline". It says "Upper Pitch". That should match the same pitch as your house.
ChiefDXS
I figured it out! Thank you so much!
