Build the shed dormer with the appropriate ceiling height and roof pitch that meets at or below the existing peak.

Try stretching the roof hole out to the edge. The only issue is there will be separate walls (Dormer wall on top of the first floor wall) and I don't think that is your ultimate intention. Anyway, hope you get it. This is a cool looking small house.

I generally just add 2 cuts, 1 at each side of the dormer, at the fascia line and pull the main roof back to the ridge line. It will separate into 2 roof planes at that point.
