wowzuh
I was wondering if anyone might help me understand how to create a covered porch like the one in the attached. I've tried to make use of the "Auto Floating Dormer" and "Auto Dormer" tools, and have also tried a combination of the three techniques described here: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-01179/creating-an-attached-porch-or-carport.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/1606/creating-a-screened-porch.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/1529/creating-a-false-gable-or-decorative-dormer.html Steve's "How to create a "Cape Cod Style Roof" with 2nd floor cantilever dormer using Chief Architect X12" video is also nearly what I'm looking for. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xagB-PtaafY In essence, I'd like to create a decorative, false, cantilevered dormer with a gable roof. The short walls under the hipped edge/overhang have proven challenging, and I'm struggling to get them to intersect with the main roof. Any help is appreciated! JonathanK
See attached... It can all be drawn with standard walls in the attic space. No need to use floating dormers, etc... Untitled 9.zip
GeneDavis
Note the "room" under has a slab floor. Invisible walls define the porch "room," and the attic walls above have roof directives, the front gabled, the sides not. It's a no-brainer.
wowzuh
Thank you, Jonathan! I spent some time "interrogating" your file, and appreciate the clean approach. Very nice! In the case of an addition--in which the cantilevered structure is added to and atop the existing hip edge--do you have any suggestions or thoughts? It was in this scenario (i.e., using "Roof Overframing") that I struggled with getting the side walls to merge to the existing roof without portions either disappearing and/or dipping beneath the new, porch ceiling.
