jorgearaya
Looking for TIPS on framing landings as it is currently not an option. Is anyone framing landings at all? If a landing occurs next to a loft or at any other location where it is adjacent to a floor system/framing. Please and thank you,
mthd97
Hi @jorgearaya, You probably know that it can be an extension of the adjacent floor frame of the loft or the floor. Then you need support bearers and posts too. Do you have a timber framing code or the like in your region that you can refer to ? This technique at the end of the training video can be used to extend floor joists. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/306/using-the-trim-and-extend-commands.html Edited 17 hours ago by mthd97
jorgearaya
Hello @mthd97 I appreciate your response and will consider it; the purpose of the request is to learn what others are doing in an effort to improve productivity or to completely discontinue any effort to show framing in some cases and/or to escalate the issue and keep sending it to CA so they can hopefully fix it. Looking to push another suggestion of mine regarding a "floating" floor container which I have started. The landing seems to be a good candidate. mthd97
Oh! ok @jorgearaya, that’s all good and you would probably know that as long as CA recognizes the landing as floor, it should frame it ? In the case of landing being midway on stair run between floors then it may not recognise it. So the challenge is for CA to recognize the landing as an independent floor between major floor levels. I would just frame it manually but if you want an automatic method and a “Landing Container Floor” as you are suggesting, perhaps you could make a suggestion after you get more responses from other users here. robdyck
One option to consider is creating a cad block of an existing framed landing and adding that to your library. Before adding it to the library, I would ensure this framing has all the properties defined for simple and repetitive use. I personally find this to be just as quick as editing what Chief builds (referring to custom ceilings or decks). A custom ceiling plane can also be used to generate the framing, and while you can't save or block a ceiling plane to add to the library, you can save a polyline to convert to a ceiling plane. In all these cases, the heights of the objects would need to manually entered to coordinate with the landing elevation in a particular project. I know this isn't a prefect solution, but I thought I'd suggest my preferred options. That being said, I rarely generate framing for a landing. Even if Chief added a landing framing function, I wouldn't expect it to be anymore accurate or flexible than deck framing or floor framing.
