Siding does not extend to underside of roof on gable ends & Layer Sets

Here is a screenshot showing an elevation view of the gable end of this building.

The siding does not cover the rafters or extend to the roof.

The rafters align with the exterior of the framed wall.

I must have a setting set incorrectly somewhere, but I don't know which one it would be.

My next question is whether Layer Sets can be exported from one plan to another.

Hard to say without looking at the plan file. Can you post it?

Yes. File > Export > Export Layer Sets...

It probably is for me.  There has to be a better software program than Chief, and I have been using it and probably making the same errors since 1998.

I have used Softplan and Chief and so far Chief is superior even with all of the issues. I have learned that certain constraints exist in all of the 3d applications with object modeling.... I surmise its because of the logic built into the intelligence of the software that govern the directives. For me, the same things that make my life easier in Chief, in other ways complicate things. Its just a matter of figuring out what directives to adjust to achieve the desired outcome.

your file is in X17, so I can't open. In your posted photo, it looks like your framing is rendering taller than your trim. I would check the structure panel under the Roof dbx, to see what your structure thickness is set to.

Hang in there.

I used Softplan a couple of years ago.  I thought the biggest plus was the support...free, unlimited phone support plus the techs would download your file, fix what was wrong, and send it back with an explanation if they could not walk you through it on the phone.

But, the CAD part of the software was very primitive.  Comparing the CAD aspects of Softplan v Chief, Chief was hands down the winner.

My next look into will be Revit Lt.  Or maybe just retire.

You have "Soffits" unchecked in the Roof Plane dialog, causing the program to clip the siding at the rafter level.

I got it to build siding to near the roof:

Turn Soffits back on and set to 1/2", then go into Materials and set Soffits to "Insulation Air Gap:

I know, that's why you set the material to something invisible like insulation air gap. Then the roof decking is visible.

Ah, another work around.

My workaround book is getting so full, the solutions should be made part of the program.

Thanks!
