DefinedDesign
Plan File Hi all, I’m hoping someone here can help me finally solve this. I’ve been struggling for days with a structural issue in my plan, and I’ve truly exhausted everything I know to try. Here’s the situation: • The garage floor is lowered by -56 1/4” to meet grade. • I’m connecting the garage to the main house with a room at the same floor level as the main house. • I’ve built a stairway that rises from the garage up to that main level. • The exterior wall above the stairs is wide open in 3D—there’s a visible gap at the top of the stairs where the wall should meet the roof. • I’ve tried adding attic walls, adjusting wall types, extending walls in elevation view, and even defining a room using invisible walls to try to get Chief to close the space. None of these worked. • Using the Room Divider tool created other issues—either deleting or disconnecting existing walls, or creating gaps that won’t connect to anything. Clarification: • The wall where the gap is showing is not in the attic—it’s on the main floor, and the roof is directly above it. • The stair area spans two floor heights, but the opening is at the main floor level, so that’s where I’m trying to define the enclosure. I’m completely stuck. It feels like Chief simply won’t recognize that this area should be enclosed. I don’t know if the problem is due to platform heights, roof cuts, stair behavior, or wall recognition—but I need to fix it, and I just can’t figure out how. I’d be deeply grateful for any advice or even a simple workaround. I’m trying to avoid patching it manually with a soffit or polyline solid if there’s a correct way to solve this in structure. Thanks in advance for any help you’re willing to give. I’m feeling completely defeated by what should be a solvable issue.
Chrisb222
In a 3D view, I selected the attic wall over the kitchen and dragged it to fill in:

I’m curious how you were able to select the attic wall in the 3D view, because I haven’t been able to. When I click around that area, it only selects the roof and not the wall. Any tips? Zoom in past the roof until you see and can select the wall. You can also select the attic wall in a Cross Section view:

I’m clearly not getting the same results you are, and I must be doing something wrong. I’m honestly going out of my mind trying to understand what that is. Here’s a video link showing exactly what I’m doing—maybe you’ll be able to spot where I’m going wrong and help me figure it out.
