Hi, I have tried every setting I can to allow me to move an extension line from one side of an interior wall main layer to the other. It always snaps to the wall surface on the opposite side of the wall, which throws out the dimensions for the framer. What am I missing?

One possibility is to check the Dimension Defaults for the Default Set you are using:

 

Another possible solution is to select the Extension - not the horizontal dimension line - and adjust it's length by moving the highlighted grip handle:

I have the settings set to locate interior and exterior to primary and secondary sides, in both the the default set in use and in the Overall dimension defaults. I tried changing the length of the

extension line, but it still only snaps to the surface. It's a head scratcher.

Sometimes you need to zoom in to get a snap to work better. Move the dimension string closer to the wall and zoom in to see if you can get the snap to hit the correct spot.

I tried that as well.

I sent my plan to Tech Support. They picked up that I had the wall type defined wrong with the drywall layer on one side in with the main layer instead of the interior. No wonder the dimension settings wouldn't fix it!
