Living Area and Ruby

Is there a way to create a Ruby macro for a label to display the two living area modes/values, i.e. %livingarea.main% and livingarea.surface%?

You may need to explain more what you are trying to do , not sure why Joe or Michael haven't answered but there are built in Macros you can insert into labels to get that info , but I am no expert on Ruby or Macros , but the more info you provide or a sample plan can only be a good thing... and what version of Chief you use too, more below......

 

It's good to have your Forum Signature filled in, especially with the Software Version, and of course a Name is nice too :)

See mine below in Blue for how to do that. If you don't see my Signature then you have them turned off for the Forum

or are perhaps on the CA Mobile WebSite which I don't think shows them?.

      Looking at the ROOM data I'm not sure where the Room Area variable is.
      Looking at Joe's macro, he used obj.room.internal_area.round(2)
       
      It appears that the variable is already rounded. Not sure if this is new.
      What I wanted is the area the Room polyline is based on.  369.83  --> Measurement
      I see several area variables, but how to get the one I want?
      How do you know what prefix to get the area you want?

      In X12 I've noticed that when using Structural Member Reporting in a material list, the price column in the list does not appear to be sensitive to whether a "per unit" or "per length" calculation is being performed by the material list.  In both cases, the material list appears to use the same Price variable in the Component Panel of each object.  Does anyone know of some Ruby scripting that could be used to correct this?  Off hand, I'm thinking of a macro inserted into the Price variable on the Component Panel of each structural member that would use the Material List row context to report a price that depends on how the row wants to use the Price.

      Just throwing the question out here: Is it possible to write a custom script for X10 to make the program export a custom materials list with some calculated fields and some custom formatting, like a header with our logo?
      If so, would anyone have an idea where I could turn to have this done for me?

      I am working on an ADU and the county requirements say it needs to be 900 square feet or less. On one hand, the county code says: 
      The ADU cannot exceed 50% of the square footage of the habitable area of primary residence or 900 square feet, whichever is smaller
       
      I have 3 questions:  Is "Habitable Area" determined on dimensions from Interior or Exterior walls when it comes to the 900 square feet requirement? Does this vary city to city or is there a code standard?  
       
      My current plan has a total of 900 square feet. I also need to know if this total is based on a measurement from Interior walls or Exterior walls? How do I confirm? Is there a default setting where you set this to factor for living area calculations?
       
      Is there a standard in the IBC which states that the living area is always calculated on Interiors or Exterior walls?
       
      I will need to reduce my footprint if I find the requirement is based on exterior walls dimensions.  
       
      Any experience with this code situation and knowledge on how to confirm this calc within my settings would be greatly appreciated.

      The Andersen 100 Series windows [Fiberex] are always popular with a builders. Primarily, they offer different interior and exterior colors, not as ugly as some other Vinyl... Sometimes designer want to know if he is using standard vs custom sizes [adds +$$].
