Jeanineb
I was in the middle of a rendering ray trace today when saddening my new (1 month) computer crashed. When I started it back up I tried to open CA and an error message popped up that the "material.dat file is missing" and would open?! Any ideas? Is there a diagnostic tool within the support center for the program? I have a project deadline I am working on :-(
jcaffee
Try a System Restore within Windows using your most recent restore point. jon
lbuttery
Hmmm, I just checked mine and it is a very small file - around 14 KB I don't remember what it does ??? its possible you may need to re-install Chief but If no one has a solution you should check with CA's tech support first they open 6 AM Pacific Lew

KilgoreTrout
I would not trust Lew's file to solve your problems. Plus it's Lew so you never know if he's going to be passing around a virus or something. I would either do the system restore or reinstall Chief. If all else fails, call tech support.
