I am modeling a warehouse with 28 ft eaves. One corner of the warehouse has office space, which is bounded by two 28 ft exterior walls and two full height (28 to 30 ft) interior walls facing the open warehouse area. The office space has a suspended tile grid ceiling at 9'9". I've watched the Chief tutorial on modeling a suspended grid ceiling, and that works fine. However, they only model a single large room. The space I am modeling has fully enclosed offices under a continuous grid ceiling. How can I add floor-to-ceiling office partition walls under the suspended ceiling, so that the ceiling grid is continuous across the entire office space? I tried using half walls (i.e., solid railings), but if doors are placed in those, there is no header over the door.

FWIW, a new update to Twinmotion was released yesterday (8/13) that appears to solve the DAE import problem on Macs. Supposedly has a number of other stability enhancements. I was able to import a fairly large chief model via DAE, and it looks completely correct. (With the 3DS import of the same model a number of surfaces were missing). Next step is try Twinmotion with an eGPU on my Macbook...

Has anyone using a MAC been able to successfully export a DAE from CA and then import that DAE into Twinmotion? On my MacBook Pro (max spec 2017 model) Twinmotion crashes every time on the DAE import. I found a post on the Twinmotion website that this was a known bug with SKP and DAE with Macs, but I found another subsequent post claiming the issue was fixed with a May update. 3DS import works to get a model in, but the model seems kinda messy (too many surfaces, some object missing).

Tomorrow I need to print some "photo quality" ray trace images of a model we are working on, on 8 x 10 paper. The printer will be a Canon Pixma 100, which is advertised as having 4800 x 2400 resolution. (I haven't used this printer yet). My question is: for an 8 x 10 print, what settings should I use for the ray trace, for image size and resolution (dpi), in order to ensure maximum possible quality and resolution in the 8 x 10 print? I don't want to unnecessarily waste ray trace time, as we have a lot of images to generate, but I also don't want to give up some of the resolution the printer would be otherwise be capable of.

Is there a way to force the window sash to fall behind the interior window stool? Chief seems to only allow a sill, with the top even with the top of the frame window frame (and bottom of the sash). I searched and saw quite a bit of discussion on this topic from several years ago, and was curious if either this has been fixed (I can't find a way to do it) or if anyone has a trick, short of manually placing a stool on each window. Here's an example of what I've done in Chief, with a custom interior sill, vs what I would like to create.

Thanks. Outside of copying the material into my User Catalog and looking at the attributes, is there a way to determine which materials in the Core Catalogs have normal maps? I upgraded from HD 2016 to HD 2017 to CA x9, and I'm not even sure that the materials updated with the new normal maps when I upgraded to CA. I've only found a very few materials that have normal maps in the Core Catalog in my CA environment.

On my renders, the painted exterior trim looks a bit flat and dull, especially in contrast to the other elements, like brick, where I'm using normal maps for the materials. I'm curious as to what people may be using to add a bit of depth and texture to painted trim in renders?

I'm working on a project that will use ATAS Castletop 15 3/4" diamond-shaped metal roof shingles. The local historical commission is requiring renders of the project and has requested to see these shingles on the renders, before approving their use... Additionally, we'd like to experiment with different colors/finishes for the tiles. I haven't been able to find any materials that we could substitute for these shingles in the model. I contacted ATAS, and they will only supply 2D drawings. Questions: 1. Does anyone know of a material that could be used to simulate these shingles? 2. If not, what would be the best method to create my own material for these shingles? If I send a view to Layout, and begin individually editing lines, is there a way to "group" individual lines such that that "group" could be later changed again en masse? For example, in layout I have an elevation view of a house with an addition. I change all the lines that represent the lap siding on the addition to red dashed lines. Later, I decide I'd rather have those same lines be solid green lines. Is there a way to make that change without having to go back and individually change each line (or whatever group of lines I could grab with the marquee selection tool)?

FWIW I sent my plan with the disappearing fascia in to Chief tech support. They can't offer an explanation or fix for the issue, and have turned it to over to the development team. For now I've just manually drawn the fascia/soffit to mostly cover the offending area up when the fascia decides to disappear.

I've been having the problem of the disappearing fascia as well, on one roof plane. I can make the fascia reappear by moving one edge of the problem roof plane slightly. But then the fascia will later disappear again - even though I haven't touched that roof plane or anything around it. If I move the edge of the roof plane back a bit, save, exit, reopen, and then move the roof plane again (to the previous position), the fascia will reappear. I think it is must be a "bug".

I purchased one 2 weeks ago, and it works fairly well with a 2015 MacBook Pro with OS Sierra and X9. Overall, it's been a great addition. The only issue I'm having is sometimes the movement in full screen is very "jerky" (but sometimes it is perfectly smooth). In a smaller (~1024) window, it's always smooth. I can't determine what could be causing the difference - system CPU/memory usage and tasks running are identical between when it is "jerky" and when it is smooth. Using the conventional mouse, it's always "smooth". Reboots make no difference in whether or not it works smoothly. I've made sure plan view is showing the same floor as the camera as well, which I have read can cause this problem.

Thanks, changing the Camera Bumps Off Walls setting fixed the issue. Bizarrely though I've never had that problem previously when using a conventional mouse, even though that setting has always been checked. I do really like the space mouse. Only complaint is that navigation with it isn't as smooth as using a conventional mouse to "walk" the same path.

I just purchased a 3D Connexion SpaceMouse, using it with X9 on a newer MacBook Pro (OS Sierra). If using the SpaceMouse in a Full camera view, if I get close to an object, or try to go through a doorway, the view gets "spun" 90 degrees, or sometimes "jumps" several feet. Or, I'll just get blocked from moving further. I've tried all the camera modes, and different renders, with the same result. Using a conventional mouse, navigation works fine through the model, with a Full camera. If I start with a Perspective Full Overview, I can use the SpaceMouse to zoom around through the interior of the model with no issues. It works really well. Any ideas on how to fix this issue when using the Full camera? I'd prefer to not have to start with the Perspective Full Overview each time we need to review an interior area, using the SpaceMouse.
