  1. I'm saying for sure, but in some cases

Yes you are right, no one has suggested this method. I was responding to the question as to how that framing detail came about.

..and you cannot add framing to the ceiling structure...or at least I couldn't and get it to show up anywhere.

I know sometimes I had to force "rebuild framing" even though it might already be checked.

So, here's a thought--what if CA creates internal bottlenecks, as the code is not engineered to perform the tasks you're asking of it?  All I'm saying is that if the product is not designed to do the job you're asking it to do, then chances are you can throw the most massively overbuilt hardware in the world at it and it still won't do what you want--ever.

Right software for the task+hardware matched to software=happy end user.

    Another good point!

    Good point!

Check out this site...Pricy, powerful, but probably be around a while. I have an older gaming system and its feeling the demand that comes from the ever changing 3D design software.

    www.boxx.com

They offer separate render "sidekicks" allowing uninterrupted work flow during a ray-trace.

  4. I would like to know where it is I can find drafting standards/conventions. Been wing'n for a while, but would like to get on board.

I would imagine, there are national standards and maybe by state, not sure.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks - Mike

  5. Thanks Graham,

I have time...and will spend it getting caught up on what constitutes the best parts that make up the whole. For me its a pricy endeavor, but like to get something that will be as adequate as can be for as long as it can be (within reason).

  6. Thanks everybody!

Larry, the Quadro card has OpenGL (see attached).  The card installed in system above (K620 in first post) runs about 160-180 bucks.

Quadro K2200 and K4200 run about 450 - 850ish respectively. There are others (Quadro) that run in the thousands

  7. hmm...from what I hear, it is (Quadro) that is the preferred card for ACAD. Like many systems that support multiple GPUs, is it as simple as having both (GeForce for CA and Quadro for ACAD) and then the software can be configured to use the correct one.

    Any advice is appreciated.

  8. I find that with more lights, it is important to run the raytrace by "passes" and not "time". Not sure of your settings, but from what I see, it looks like the spes are a result of the photon mapping option checked. This is usually ok if you let it run long enough. Depending on your lighting scheme and how they're set up coupled with your computer hardware, this could take a considerable amount of time. Also a time factor is your image size. Try a smaller size, first, to speed up the ray trace. This way you can experiment with different settings and see the result much quicker between passes.

  9. Can CA show this OOB. Once modeling the existing structure, is there a way to lock the existing roof from re-building with the new roof and ultimately show, well, the over-"Framing" as it is typically done in these situations.

So, again, when showing "Perspective Framing Overview", you see something like the second attached image where the new roof meets existing.

  10. Austin,

I pulled back the overhang, and adjusted the baseline height, made sure to rebuild framing.

I had to mess around a little to get this, you may need to do the same.

Edit: You might have to rebuild roofs again to get the birds mouth correct...I'm not sure if there is a way after the fact. Also, change the room type exterior to the knee wall to "Attic"
