Broken Ray Trace - Here we go again,,,, I won't followup on a thread I started earlier this year as it was very painful. That said, my attempt to ray trace yields an error as attached. Details: Chief version - x9 Has it been working - yes Is windows up to date - yes, I reinstalled windows 7 and reformatted my HHD earlier this year o n account of a dll problem, Latest Chief update - a week ago. Did I try it on a simple cabinet - yes, did it work - no Have I installed the latest windows updates - yes, Does the function work on my second computer - yes. so that means it's something on my home computer, Are my video drivers up to date - yes, I guess I'll just beat it around a bit to see what happens.

Is that for living space above the garage Greg? My client is just using that space for storage. Thanks for the link js and Michael. Ron

Did I see a symbol or topic on drop down stairs somewhere here recently? I need to access my attic in the garage and I'm going to do it using a set of pull downs,,,, Thanks

That's fabulous Dave, thanks a bunch.

That's interesting Mike as the commercial building I referenced in another thread had the same corner board problem as you mentioned but not on all corners, just one, so I made a polyline solid for that corner. It's funny, in using this fine program for all these years I've discovered a person (me) can spend a lot of time on a fix when there's an easier way out, like the polygon solid I did in the commercial building corner board, Also like I did with the 3d text for the commercial building, it took me hours to figure it out but now that I solved that problem I'm good from this point forward :-) (provided I don't lose my notes). Ah, it's just that simple, But I'm with Joey, we need better control (and others have said it as well), Did I also see that corner boards are an issue? I can't seem to add them. I'll build her manually in the meantime, R,

As it was said in another post "it's been a long time since I used the auto bay / bow window" but wasn't there a day when one could create an automatic Bay / Bow window and explode it allowing one to adjust the features manually? I think the last time I used this function was in 2010 :-). R.

Signage on a commercial building / motel

I figured 3d letters would be the answer and I can do those easily enough but I thought I would provoke conversation to see what other options there were available. -
Hello fellow CAer's I have a pal that owns a local motel and he needs a signage permit for his burger spot. BUT, I'd like the sign to be TEXT ON WALL,,, So the first image shows examples provided by the city and the second the motel as I have it now (and needs work), So, how would you fine folks place text on my Parapet? The second image shows a thin frame with text but this is just to set up the discussion. Thoughts? Ron

Solved - you're using x8. :-) Ah, that said maybe you didn't upgrade to X9. The roof materials in x8 are not in the roofing specs. Now I have to go from memory as I don't have x8 now, someone refresh my short memory, is it in preferences and materials?

I have it on my end Jason,,,,

Valid point Eric and I didn't take it as a jab, we are a great group of people here trying to help the common man (or woman :-) ), Ron

I was looking to the future when I talked of the roofing system :-)

You don't actually want to remove the ceiling :-). I am just pointing out the reason for the gap. Keep us posted on your progress and we'll help ya through it.
-
Your siding is stopping at the top of the ceiling structure. See the attached where I removed the ceiling on one room on the main floor and that removes the gap. Question: what are you doing for a roof? Once you get the roof on the gaps are a non issue.

Unfortunately this did not solve my problem.... I even called Microsoft to ensure I had the download you suggested and it was clearly installed. And the reason I called MS is it took a call to MS last week to have SP1 installed properly. Plan C? Thanks in advance.

Val, I have the same problem and Support sent the issue to the developers. Ray trace works fine on one of my computers and doesn't on another. The one it does not work on has a NVdia GTX 285 1 GB memory - yep that's vintage but the computer ray trace does work on is more vintage. I can't say I'm glad you're having the problem but it's good to know I'm not the only one, Ron 2009 Gateway FX 6801 12 GB memory intel i7 2.67 GHz - Windows 7 64 bit NVdia GTX 285 1 GB memory (a clunker now) - dual 24" monitors 1 TB SATA2 HDD

hhmmm,,, I must add the specs to my signature as suggested, great idea,,, Old machine (it was a monster when I bought it :-) ), and actually it still performs well, 2009 Gateway FX 6801 12 GB memory intel i7 2.67 GHz - Windows 7 64 bit NVdia GTX 285 1 GB memory (a clunker now) - dual 24" monitors 1 TB SATA2 HDD Let me see what else I can find out about the graphics card.... I know when I shot a ray trace to it in x8 the fans kicked in full boar!!! :-)

Well it's not Norton, I just disabled Norton, tried a ray trace and get the same. I'll have to call tech support on Monday,,,, To add to the error the details read (for what it's worth): C:\p4sync\dev\Releases\19.0.3\chief\source\raytrace.cpp(495): Error #272032345 "An unexpected error occurred while ray tracing." 2/4/2017 11:49:06 AM Build: 19.0.3.50x64
