  1. Carl, i have the same problem.  I have an SSD drive, a good card, etc, but every plan I do slows significantly when 3d is open.  i do fairly complex homes and they may have something to do with it?  I turn barebones layers on in 3d. I would love to keep 3d open on another screen, but just too slow. Definitely a nuisance, problem!

  2. A moment ago I saw a blind corner where we could sneak a little linen closet. Drew my 2 short walls to form the 24x30 tiny room, a POW there was a HUGE label BEDROOM. Clicked on the offending Label (because I couldn't click on the tiny room), pressed TAB, then set the room to closet, do not show label.

Exactly..it's the small rooms that are a nuisance because you have to move/remove the label to continue designing.  This was the thought process behind my suggestion about a minimum room size for the label to appear....define the room, just keep the label off when smaller then the predefined minimum room size.

  3. OK, working on a plan today, and this is pretty annoying especially when really small rooms, or dead space is created...however, it can be helpful when larger rooms are created...just to get a quick size.  So I wonder if there is a way to just have rooms larger then say 10 x 10, or 12 x 12, or by square feet show the room name, and anything smaller have it named, but the label off by default.  If that is difficult to implement, or confusing for users to understand how and why it is working, then I would lean towards it being off by default.

Just some thoughts on this while designing a new project today.

  4. X6 will merge them together...I have 9.5 running on another computer and could open all of them up to see if it is all there in the original format, then convert to X6 if needed...when i open up the file you posted in the original in 9.5 i get a message that 'floor 2 is missing from the plan files for this plan...."

    good luck.

  5. Also use SugarSync...don't rely on it for real time sync for two computers running at the same time, but for a secondary computer used at different times it works great and syncs things quick and backups up at the same time and close to real time as mentioned by Mike.

    Been using it for years.

  6. ... but for something that takes longer than about 5-10 seconds people will quickly assume the program has hung. Having a progress dialog is reassuring in those situations and tends to make the time seem to pass quicker.

Agreed...for longer then a few second delay a dialog is helpful....quick/short delays (if we want to call them delays), a dialog is not necessary.

  7. I think the main difference is that the progress dialog is coming up now when it wasn't in X5. The reason it wasn't coming up in X5 was to prevent crashes, although I think we did find an obscure crash due to having the progress dialog on Mac with Undo.

Can we get rid of it...I really don't want to see it every time I hit undo...i guess my brain is programmed that way since that is how every software I work with operates...no dialog when hitting undo...perhaps having it show up after 3 seconds like previously mentioned would be fine....just so we know it is still thinking and not crashing.

  8. Are you seeing a progress dialog? Undo / Redo should be faster than that. Progress dialogs should only pop after 3 seconds.

If this is what you are seeing you might want to check the performance of your hard drive - especially where the undo folder is set. (You can find that in preferences)

If you can put undo on a fast drive, like an ssd drive.

I also get a pop up dialogue every single time I hit undo...it is fast, but annoying to see it at all...i'm set up on an ssd drive as well....definately showing up before 3 seconds...would love to see that go away.

  9. what setting do i change to only get an email on the first new post, and not every single post...that is how the legacy forum works...my inbox is under attack from this thread...I know I can stop following it, but something that I need to figure out for all forums...thanks.

  10. typically only on start up...it varies, but usually hitting F2 or DEL...but as your starting up, before windows loads, it should list it usually on the bottom of the screen what to push to enter setup or bios.

    Good luck.

  11. Thanks Bill...I was thinking that too...however it stays on the automatic dimension layer.

I may have to change the way I work, but it still doesn't make sense to me that if it stays on the auto dimension layer that it should work like the 'auto refresh' feature when I click auto dimension.

    Thanks for the tip.
