This conversation inevitably leads to the need for visual improvements to the online 3d Viewer.

If I had a partnership with another company I would have no issues giving out the file.

That being said, if CA could export an encoded CA file, and then the viewer decoded it into memory, that would also work.

The problem with the cloud is it would have to RTRT every time the camera moved around, and CA would need to purchase HW to support that

  2. normally I would put in a room below the cant (then set walls to invisible)

in this case there is an empty space so not sure. you could do that plus  add a ceiling plane at no pitch (to prevent the invisible wall from going straight up to the platform as its room height matches the one on the left), then extend the roof under.

but the  cant wall wants to build down to match. I tried pulling the wall up, but the rim joist always shows.

someone probably has a better idea

And another much simpler question. How can I include the library browser into the same tab structure as the project browser and active layer display options

right click in the clear area above one of the other tabs.

a window should popup , and then you can select it

  4. If you do not already you might want to also give them the CA viewer, and create RTRT cameras. I do rtrt camera all the time now, and once you learn the 4 or 5 settings to change, they make a world of aesthetic difference.

Just know that if you do give them the CA viewer, you also have to give them the plan to view, and they could take that plan and use it for themselves

  5. I will quote every job depending on the complexity. As you have the plans this might take as little as 4 hours to recreate for a simple box which has no porch deck or ext detailing. I will typically estimate what I think it will take and double it. That is the fixed price.

But again it is in the details. If they want 3d camera shots that takes time.

It was strange how it built the truss there!!!! I just stumbled into the little room, I was about to give up when I deleted the inside wall in the stairwell and the render changed to a rim joist instead of the floor truss.

in case anyone is wondering why the little room is there. ..below is a 8" concrete foundation, so the wall had to be offset

Uncheck Same Eave Heights in the Build Roof dialog.

    the doc indicates:

    • When Same Height Eaves is checked, any non-default overhang values specified in the Wall Specification dialog are used. Roof planes are raised or lowered so that the eave height is the same, regardless of the horizontal overhang.

    it worked, thanks you

but not sure why. This is a 4; tall cantilever. if the "eave height" is to the distance from zero to bottom of eave, then by CA adding an extra 2' to the roof didnt actually make it same height to anything. i.e what eave is it matching to

I suppose if "Eave height" means the distance from top plate to the bottom of the eave (or more likely the bottom of the fascia board), then it should change with the pitch. so i changed to a 4:12 and sure enough the eave is now 3' instead of 2'

I would think though this setting should be on the wall and not global? otherwise if i have different pitched roofs on my top floor and I have this cantilever, it will not work for both

  8. and it looks like you DWG is rotated. If so, select all the DWG line and rotate using the transform replicate button. so that the majority of walls are 0 or 90 degrees

Then dimension between two different (as long as possible) walls, which have a known dimension. If the CA dimension matches the DWG dimension all is good, if not use the Transform and replicate to scale until they do

I prefer actual text in my CAD Details to minimize contractors & subs from having to search for the information

I do lots of recreation from plans, and I can say the move to notes on plans from the old text everywhere probably adds 20% more time to figure things out. The worst is companies that have note schedules with notes that arent actually on the plan

  10. 8 hours ago, Renerabbitt said:

You only need the schedule, layout was open just to show that it works

yes but I think you need to "know" what is the first detail in the layout, and the second detail...

For instance, your BWP WSW actual detail is on the left in your layout and it is labelled 3. I presume, by looking at the layout one thinks, "this should be number 1 not 3, so I will go to the schedule and set it to 1". And then you go to the schedule and move it.

or is it a different workflow?

I first ask if they have the plans to the home

if the home is built after 1985 here the homeowner can order the plans from the city for $60. I tell them that is best and cheapest way as my stuff is either basements or additions. additions require full elevations by the city here. its easier to recreate in CA than try and measure. If I need something, I will ask the homeowner to take pictures

Just curious why you don’t just use a doorway to accomplish this?

btw I tried the pass through window and door for the arch, but the bottom sill always showed

do you know how to get rid of the bottom doorway sill? or maybe I wasnt doing it right

Perfect convert the top of the cutout polyline to an arc and match it to the symbol

how does one "match it to the symbol...easily...go chase down the properties from the original arc and plug them all in?

    image.png.db227852b5344e9a4b28967720ab0ec3.png

after getting frustrated with that....I created a couple psolids, and subtracted them, which worked ...after taking 20 minutes trying to place the psolids in the right place to begin with. For some reason I couldn't find them on the plan view(yes the layer was on) for that long, and I was moving them around in circles in 3D.  No idea why they werent in plan view. But even so, I think I need to watch some videos on how to move psolids around in 3D..literally I was moving them in circles (I'd move the camera to be more or less on one elevation, then move it, then move the camera to another elevation then move it, then move the camera to be on top and then move it, rinse repeat) ...there must be a proper technique that I am missing

that being said, I'd like to see if I can get the symbol thing going ...or the pass-thru doorway/window. The latter seems the simples if it could work...and that is where I got the arc from to begin with for the psolid

  13. i placed it from my library onto the wall in elevation. When I click on it, in elevation, i get

    image.thumb.png.d38db812f0c76ad425d867a96edbfc0e.png

which now I notice has the "convert to symbol" but missing the icon

so I did it again, selected the 3d solid, click to convert to symbol, a dbx pops up with a checkbox to add to library, which I check, except  I also check the advanced options , and check to insert into wall (where before I opened up in the library and checked it). then I select it from my library and when I place it it, low and behold, it cuts into the wall.

Then I went back to my original in my library and placed it on the wall, and now it cuts the wall, without having to move it in plan view

    go figure

anywho, it is still the same look (square cutout), but I have that menu item now, if I click the symbol , I get

    image.thumb.png.2fc0e43e2777885cf898d219ae8fb8df.png

interesting that it has "convert to symbol"

but now what do i do, I dont see something that will cutout the arch instead of the box

    I currently have

    image.thumb.png.a14a8cac70bd5e9a2a7b3cfc7258694b.png

  14. I have an arch I created in 2D CAD, converted to a solid, converted to a symbol, and set the "Inserts Into Wall"

but when I put it on the wall, it cuts a rectangle instead of the arch.  Any idea why?

    symbol:

    image.thumb.png.460deae564c1b54072ad26e84d95db23.png

    plan view:

    image.thumb.png.67500942cb87ed1fa4493314e10ccb96.png

then I move the symbol to the left over the wall and widen it and I get a rectangular cutout:

    image.thumb.png.730920af3fdade89f936fa0bfa5a1881.png

then I deselct the layer for the symbol

    image.thumb.png.47fe9dc9f40ac95b554b0982a7a992aa.png

Any ideas why I do not get the arch?

btw I tried the pass through window and door for the arch, but the bottom sill always showed

  15. interesting. my walls have basically the same settings,  i changed my room height for the cant to be 48 to see if something would change, no change, still the 24" roof.

I tried pulling the exterior wall right through instead of just breaking the exterior wall to a bump out, no difference.

    ...a little stumped

Did you try playing with the "minimum alcove size" in the build roof dialog?

just tried setting to 2". made no difference
