  1. Yes, I know this. but try and draw a square with a polyline shape and see what happens.....
  2. It's been a while, but I cannot for the life of me figure out why my temporary dims don't show when I select walls (with no dims), draw polylines, cad blocks or solid objects etc. Hmmmm I know it's a simple fix but it's just not coming to me. I've included a recent x11 version plan for reference. Thanks for the help.... Justin MARBLE_HILL_ROAD_6-18.plan
  3. Hello- Looking to outsource some work. Please give me a ring sometime to talk through your process and pricing. Thank you- Justin Cormier 865-255-1120 Knoxville, TN
  4. Chop- Hmmm. OK. Tried the Gimp converter and it worked great. Thank you chop....and everyone else for their answers. JC
  5. Hello Everyone- So for a while now I've been experiencing this issue where my program freezes when I go to print a page from my layout that has a pdf that has been sent from either my plan file or that I have imported directly from my desktop to the layout file itself. Seems to be that the files are just too big or something and it just chokes. I've been tracing the darn things in my plan file, deleting the PDF and sending the cad drawing to layout and it all works well there.....But, I've got a multi-page pdf that I'd like to add that has a ton of drawing (if I were to trace over them like I have been) and I cannot justify the time to do so. A few questions.. Is there a setting that I don't know about in the Chief program that helps with this situation? Does anyone else send pdf's to the layout with any problems like this and if so what do they do to make it work for them? Do I need to convert the file? If so, I don't mind purchasing a software converter (I've read some other posts for recommendations.) Thanks for your help. Justin
  6. Parkwest... Thanks for the quick turn around on this. I'll look into both later today, Take care- J
  7. Hello All- I obviously have a contract that I use on every job, but I got to thinking the other day....What could I be missing that is either leaving me exposed or not charging enough for additional services? Does anyone have a really solid contract that they feel covers just about everything from custom homes, spec. homes for builders, additions / renovations, exit strategies spelled out if a customer becomes really unreasonable, etc.? Thanks and I look forward to some examples. JC
  8. Thanks Chop. Yeah, I noted that I could simply fill the arrows with white, but I was trying to get a certain look that would require both the dimension arrowheads and walls to be black. I figured there ought to be a way to give the dimension arrowheads a white background box behind them but maybe there isn't that option. Hmmm. Thanks again. J
  9. Hey All- I'm working in x8 (still, yeah I know) and I'm running into a situation where I've changed the wall color fill to black. When I place a dimension on the right side of the wall the dimension arrow can be seen just fine, but when I place the dimension arrow on the left side of the wall (arrow is within the wall area) I loose the arrow visibility. Where do I find the background color for the ends of the dimensions? My thought is that I'd turn the background to white. Note: I do realize I can simply make the fill of the arrowheads white and move on, but I'm trying to match a certain style and I would like to use black arrows w/ black fill AND black wall fill. Any suggestions would be great. Thank you Justin See attached screenshot
  10. Kbird1 Good ideas on the lighting. Thank you I'll try that tomorrow when I'm back on this addition. Also, thanks for the casing tid bit. I was always wondering about the trick to that problem. Thanks again. J
  11. Alaskan_son- Yeah, I figured I needed to turn the sun off. A temp. solution was to turn up the intensity of the sun. It worked but I still want to know how to add a stupid light in a room when I need to later on. Thanks-
  12. For whatever reason I cannot get the light source I placed under the covered porch area to turn on. Read the knowledge base on the site and it didn't help either. Should be a simple thing but there must be a setting that I'm not aware of. I want to run a video through the project to show the customer but it's just to dark under that area so I thought I'd add a light source. Any ideas??? Thanks- J Plan and screenshot attached. 13. Hey All- I hope you had a great holiday season. I did. I've got this lower retaining wall that is giving me some fits for some reason. I think it's where the elevation region and the retaining walls touch each other on either side of the back of the flattened patio area behind the house. Can't seem to remove the unwanted "extra" retaining wall floating above the actual retaining wall go away. Crazy stuff. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you- I've included a picture of the mystery floating wall stuff as well as the plan file in x8. GILLEY_LOT_926R_1-16.plan
  14. I posted the plan with the initial question Scott. Thanks-
  15. OK. Gotcha. I just have to import it, scale it and then trace over the lines I want and add the arc. Yes, that's what I'll do. Thanks guys.
  16. Hey All- First, let me wish everyone a Happy Turkey Day on Thursday! I am beginning this project with a subdivision plat that does not give me the radius along the path of the road where my project happens to be. I've laid out all the straight lines I could but I don't know if I have all the information I need on this plat to complete the bend in the road properly. I could be totally missing something here but I don't think I am. Any suggestions would be great. I have included a copy of my plan and a tiff with the lot in question circled. Thank you- J.C. 17. Geez, I've got SOOOOO much to learn. Put that feather in my hat for later. Again, thank you everyone. JC
  18. Question... Now that we know its the room fill that wacks out the drawings, how does one put fill into a room like they should be able to? I can always put a polyline in and fill it.
  19. Chop- That was it. The lousy room fills. Doah! Oh, and I did go in and pull out those countryside items. They certainly were not supposed to be there and fixed the open wall. As always, thank you everyone. JC
  20. Hey all- I'm doing a check-set for this project and I'm coming into something funky and I don't know how to remedy the situation. All the pages print out just fine except page 6 (main level floor plan). When I preview it's covered in black. Same thing happens to my roof plan that I used the main level floor plan as well so obviously there is a connection to the main floor plan. Funny, the foundation plan is just fine. Any ideas? I've included the plan and a screenshot pic from layout. I'm using x8 Thank you- JC RESNICK 10-29.zip
