Given the more traditional style of the home, a simple solution on the right (or even both sides would be a "flat" roof with balustrades - See OHara before and after. The left side shed can have a dropped pitch and align with the gable left fascia - See Adler before and after. Hard to see and I don't have any clear pics (These are scans off film) on the right side of Adler there is a second floor bumpout. That has a window well with a 1:12 pitch. Since there is no info in your post regarding which version of Chief you are using or your experience with the program I don't want to presume anything. I can tell you using the program as it is intended would not pose any problems doing what is shown and described. The walls and all the information contained  therein for that part of the program are not intended for working out the geometry and trigonometry of your layout. The CAD tools and all their inherent features would make what you show quite simple. Much along the "lines" of creating a Plat all the information can be fed accurately into the sketch. Then the walls can be drawn. aligned, snapped to etc the CAD to achieve your purpose. Further you can determine if those angles and dimensions should correspond to the framing, sheathing, siding, foundation etc. There are many things, such as bump outs, bays, porches etc. that are far easier to layout in CAD and then "draw" with other appropriate parts of the program. Much like light construction lines to do layout in hand drawing before the actual drawing. There is an incredible amount of articles, videos, classes and tutors on how to best use the program. Again not presuming anything. I've been using Chief for 29 years now and I truly believe I know how to use approximately 75% of its capabilities (and far less in X15)

I only keep 13,14,& 15 active. I did this in 13 but the tools should be the same. The base is a poly solid. I used the pyramid, truncated and adjusted as required. You can make adjustments in plan or dbx as needed. Change material to stone - this is Eldorado - Bluff - Bodega Keep elev @ bottom at "0"  For the post I used a soffit adjusted the size as required, set floor to bottom to the height of the pier. Use point to point to centre the post on the pier. Change the material ( this is natural red oak) You can adjust grain direction etc in the material properties. Then make an architectural block or symbol or what ever suites you and add to your library. Now you can copy / paste where you want. Explode the block to modify individuals. Hope that helps

BTW you can add a cap to the pier using the same techniques.

These are all done with soffits and polyline solids. The changes from X10 are pretty substantial but I believe you can create what you want with the tools in 10001 ct 12123.pdf

Good point (as usual)  Personally FWIW I think this will go the way of he door alarms when the structure forms an integral part of the barrier surrounding swimming pools....Common sense and the realization that nothing is fool proof cause fools are too ingenious will win out

When running library update I get a notice that several catalogs could not be found. I go into the library and the catalogs are all there and working fine. If I go to the website and try to manually download the catalog for X15, when I click on the down load it opens X14 and tells me it can't be down loaded to this page.... any ideas??

Been using (2) 32" Samsung curved monitors with the 17" screen on my Alien laptop for a few years now - Love it! Can easily work the plan on one monitor, split the other into a couple of views - interior / exterior etc. while keeping the library browser on the laptop (or stream the news....) IMHO works just fine 

I think I've observed a fairly equal split between Intel and AMD in the posts here on Chief Talk. An I7 32G with RTX2070 Super 8G have given no problems. I remember when a decent raytrace would take  hours  and now takes seconds..... I have a 1T boot drive and an additional 512 drive on the computer but drives fail.... I keep a 1T external connected for work files and a 1T for personal files and they are backed up at least daily, more if I'm spending alot of time on something complicated. Both are backed up to a 5T external weekly (that's happening as I write this) and that is kept in a safe. I have projects back to 1999 on that drive. This is good 'cause a 200G external that held many of the old files failed a few months after it was backed up to the 5T. I know some use the cloud. Point being I'd make my "extra" storage external.

They are both set in the manual dimension default for the annotation scale you are using - 1/4, 1/2 etc. Make sure your wall main layer is the framing. Set the openings to center.

For fine tuning you'll also see when you highlight a window or door there is a small handle in the center of the label. You can hold down CTRL and adjust from there. We are, however, assuming what program and version you're using......

Or....In the window framing spec a top sill to form the buck for the interior frame. Change header spec from (2) to (1) The label will double so just select one and suppress the label. In a 3D view select the interior hdr and slide into position -- unless the whole thing is bearing then just leave it alone and spec 2X12 top plate(s) You could also just select any additional headers you  don't want and just delete them in the plan. 3D would still need cleanup.

I do think this an excellent idea. I can foresee it evolving from helpful plan review to an open exchange of notes and details from the participants experience.

I particularly like various responses for the same submittal: Setback definition: Zoning -"to the foundation" Building - "to the siding" Outside plan check - "Setback to the outside face of the fascia on the overhang" Say what? Trying to decide what section of the code to quote on a plan is like playing whack-a-mole. Even standard notes such as

I draw the existing conditions with the appropriate wall types. In my layer sets I have layers such as Wall2bremoved, Door2bremoved, etc. These are changed to dashed lines with adjusted line line weight and color. For demo take the wall or part thereof and open wall type > copy > add demo to name such as Interior 4 Demo and dash all the lines. Place these on Wall2bremoved layer along with doors, windows, cabinets etc. on their own 2bremoved layers. Mark the walls no locate, no room def. In any 3D view, elevations, sections, etc. turn the 2bremoved layers off.

You can take your file of the existing plan of the house you modeled before and copy it. Then save the file copy for your new file so it doesn't interact with the existing model. To move, rotate, etc. select Edit>Edit Area>Edit Area (All Floors) To mirror the plan select Tools> Reverse Plan. Hope that helps

Make your cabinet with a framed door > glass. Open the dbx for the cabinet > material > glass. In materials select metals > patterned > wire mesh. You can edit all the material properties (make a copy) in plan materials once you select it.

I set the Accuracy default in primary format to 1/8" with Reduce set to greatest common divisor in 1/8", 1/4", & 1/2" scales. I set it to 1/16" in 3/4", 1", & 1 1/2" or above scale. I'm realistic about drawing and building but when I need a fraction.... I'm also religious about calling out "CRITICAL DIMENSION" , "HOLD CLEAR" or both when the design warrants it. (Big supporter of text below the dimension line) I also use EQUAL / EQUAL when I want something centered and not dependent on how it got framed in the real world. I find the settings accuracy important for the program ie: evenly distributing copies of items etc. but rely on experience for how it's actually designed (and that includes fractions.) Bye the way if you have a long string of dimensions w/ a bunch of 1/8 fractions you can open that string and change the accuracy and it will self adjust.

go to your library and type in exit? Don't know about concealed sprinkler but sprinkler heads are there too. Did you bring your libraries forward to X14?
